Visited Jo-Ann Fabrics store tonight in Florence, SC. To be fair, it was 7:48PM when we arrived (the store closed at 8:00PM), so we knew we had to be fast! Normally, we would not have even gone in this close to closing time, but we live almost an hour away from the closest Jo-Ann's so this was our only chance for awhile. We knew exactly what we needed and went right to it. There were two of us so one waited for someone to come cut the fabric for us, while the other went to find some lace. We found the lace, and even told the worker that one of us was going to go ahead and go to the register (to keep them from waiting since it was pushing 8:00 at this point but still wasn't PAST 8:00), and the other person was going to wait with her (the worker) to get the lace cut. The lady was not happy when we walked in to begin with, but we figured she was afraid we were going to be customers who were going to browse when the store was about to close (but we weren't) so we were willing to look past that because that IS frustrating especially when it is a Friday night, you have been working, and you probably have plans after work. However, when we got to the register, the worker waiting on us was not very friendly because we wanted to use a coupon, and he did not want to give us the 40% off coupon we wanted to use because it was going to take too long to pull up on the phone. Normally I would've just accepted the 20% off rather than 40% to make up for the fact that we walked in so close to closing time, but considering that we were AT the register at 8, the lady wasn't friendly when we walked in, and then that the guy wasn't friendly when we checked out, I wanted my additional 20% off. We finally got the 40% off coupon to show up, and we walked out of the store at 8:07PM.
I accept responsibility that we walked in at 7:48PM when the store closed at 8:00, so I understand the less than normal friendliness (to an extent), but when we were at the register at 8:00, and even going out of our way to be fast by having one person go wait in line while the other got the lace cut seems to me as though we were doing all that we could other than just not shopping at Jo-Ann's for our materials since we would have had to go somewhere else to get the fabric since we don't live close to a Jo-Ann's. Perhaps I am wrong in my thinking, but I feel as though it was not as though we were still browsing at 8:00, and we were out by 8:07. In addition, we are not regular customers (since we live an hour away) who are always showing up at closing time; this was a one time thing (yes, I know others may do it, but we are not them). I feel as though a little more understanding should have been shown from the workers considering they are working in retail and should know they might have someone walk in right before closing time. Although, all of it would have been understandable, and we would have apologized profusely for putting them out if only their attitudes been a little better.
Due to this, I would not recommend this Jo-Ann's to anyone if either of these workers are present during your shopping experience. read more
