I don't usually post reviews, but after using JOA Electronics I had a very different experience than so many negative reviews. My LG washer had leaked, but it was no longer under warranty. LG gave me the name of JOA Electronics, but so many reviews were bad. I called another appliance service I've used in the past but they said they were not LG certified and wouldn't get good tech support from LG. So I called JOA. He responded to my call quickly. He charges $100 service plus parts. (That's not $100/hour, just $100!) We set up an appointment for later that day, gave me a 30-minute window, and said he would text when on the way. He texted me at the end of the appointment time window apologizing and saying he would be 30 minutes later. When he arrived, he was wearing a mask and took off his shoes. It turned out that I had caused the leak by not putting the washer filter back correctly after I cleaned it. Wanting to be sure that the problem was solved (and thinking of all those bad reviews), I asked to remove and reinsert the filter myself, and then he ran the test again to assure me that the leak was fixed. He was patient about that. (And it hasn't leaked since then.) I was happy to spend the $100 and have the problem fixed so quickly. As some reviewers have noted, probably English is his second language. I found him easy to communicate with, by phone, text, and in person. He is a bit terse, but polite. read more

Horrible EXPERIENCE!! He came to repair dishwasher through Geek Squad referral. FIRST time never pulled it out and was in and out in 5 minutes. Said that I did not close it tight! Never checked for loose hose. Scheduled service with Geek Squad a 3rd time this time he actually pulled it out tightened a hose, reset code on panel and turned on power. NEVER attempted a cycle. Spoke on his phone on a personal call almost entire time while "working". I turned on actual cycle as soon as he left. within 3 min had a failure code. Called him back and he refused to return. Haphazard service doing as little as possible. DO NOT USE!!! read more

This guy was sent by LG to fix my TV. Never showed up on the day he told me he would be there. He calls me the next night at 7 pm and said he was on his way. He replaced the 65in screen that looked used. He never tested it. I turn on the tv to see what looks like one huge burn in. I tell him right away. He says he needs to order a new screen and leaves. This was over 30 days ago. I've called him Multiple times to ask him when will he be back he says he's waiting on the part and will let me know. I call LG today and ask them what's going on with my TV and they told me that he closed it out and he said it was all set. it is not all set. this guy was so unprofessional no communication LG wants to send him back and I'm refusing to let him come back to my house stay away from him. I highly recommend Tom for LG repairs. He is honest, timely and quite adept with LG appliances. He has made two visits over the past couple of years to service our (now) 10 year old LG washer and dryer. On both occasions he responded in short order, arrived for service when agreed and charged incredibly reasonable fees (far below what other appliance repair pros would charge). On the more recent repair, he required an ordered part, and was timely on the follow-up -- came and installed the part at 5:30pm Friday afternoon, just an hour after he actually received the part! Tom speaks English as a second language, and so I would dismiss other reviews criticizing his communication. In my experience, he is straightforward, dependable and trustworthy in what he says. As for delays in obtaining parts that I saw in other reviews, please understand that he is an independent contractor. This accrues to the customer's benefit in his lower rates, but he does not have extensive infrastructure, parts inventory, and other affiliated repairmen that a larger commercial appliance repair shop would have. He is thus subject to part availability, shipping time (generally 2-3 business days) and of course his own schedule. The latter has not been a problem in my experience as he is always responsive to a call and schedules appointment ASAP. read more

Hired to repair dryer; didn't address actual problem which was a clogged lint vent. Instead told us that he'd cleaned up inside dryer and that it was normal for a two year old dryer to clog and smolder from lint. read more

There are 2 common running themes with this repair person: 1) denies there is a problem 2) has a hot temper and straight out rude. My experience is common with other reviewers. We had several issues with our oven with temperature and door hinge problems. On this 3rd attempt to repair he brought the wrong repair part, got frustrated at us for his error and then proceeded to tell us our complaint is invalid because he believes our oven thermometer is broken and not the oven. I asked him to please use his thermometer and he of course conveniently "forgot" his. He then stated he is not coming back to fix the door with the correct parts because he doesn't like us. WHAT?! This was one of the most discriminating experience I have had with another fellow korean. I'm pretty sure he didn't like that my partner was a women. He used vulgar language in Korean and as soon as he realized I understood what he said he was stunned. He was unprofessional and verbally assaulive calling me things I cannot repeat. He also claimed that LG doesn't pay him for additional visits after the 1st so he was trying to be nice to another Korean so he did me a favor and came several times to fix the problem, got frustrated that he ordered the wrong part, took it out on the customer and lied to us. The cherry on top was that he said he was not going to fix anything with a lot of korean expletives. STAY AWAY from this one person repair. I plan on sending a formal complaint. Honestly, I do not understand how this company has any negative reviews. I have worked with the business owner on four occasions now for four different appliances over the last 7 years, and every single time he's come in, he is very courteous, he is clear about what the problem is, cost to fix, etc. I would encourage you to give him a try! read more

This "technician" is a fraud. I show him the poor quality image on the tv (it was a game) he blames the game. I show him the same issue on YouTube, now he blames the internet. LG hires him to not conduct a repair and say everything is good. Maybe he needs some new glasses. I'm fine with other cultures, but he could not understand what I was saying several times. You are better off using anyone else. read more

These guys were sent to me by LG repair service for a washing machine that had a malfunctioning front panel. This Japanese guy shows up and when I show him the issue he proceeds to tell me that there's no issue and that that's how it's supposed to be. I tell him that's not that case and that I should be able to modify settings on the cycle once I use the rotary knob to select one. He continues to say no, you cant modify any options, that's what the dial is for. I ask him why there are buttons to modify options then and why have I been able to do it for the last 4 months. Then he asks me to show him that I can modify anything to prove I'm right. I said that I cant modify anything and THATS THE REASON WHY YOURE HERE, ITS MALFUNCTIONING. He goes "see, you can't modify anything." This idiot didn't even know how the washing machine was supposed to function when it was functioning properly so how would he have even fixed it? No way I was going to let him mess with the machine and cause more problems so I told him to leave and I called LG and explained what had happened. They apologied and sent another company the next day who were great. Also issued a formal complaint against this guy and was told that I was one of many. Also he just drives around in a beat up old Honda that's filled to the top of the windows with cardboard boxes and parts. No official business vehicle, no name or phone number listed on the vehicle. I couldn't care less if he was a good at his job. I don't think he actually has a legit company or much in the way of training. He's probably just an average schmuck fixer upper who's better than most. Don't let him touch your expensive machine and if you get referred to him, call back and ask for someone else read more

Had J.O.A. Electronics here today for over three hours and our television still not repaired. The repair person was awful! They were so concerned about the money they paid for the part they ordered to fix the t.v. and was a nightmare. They leave, the television still not working! Mind you, this person never came to the house to see what was the problem. Diagnosed this over the phone!, I will never have them back in my house again! read more

I had been waiting for the OK from LG to fix a washer and they sent 2 technicians to diagnose the problem but we had to wait for parts. Both diagnostics matched. When the parts came, because of the delay and the pandemic, they contacted Joa Eletronics . Tom came to my house. He was extremely rude from the time he came to the door. He wouldn't answer questions, rushed through the job and only replaced one part. He did not address any concerns or answer my questions even though they were specific about the parts not replaced. As he was leaving, I noticed he was taking a brand new part from one of the boxes that was supposed to go in my washer. When questioned about why he didn't install it and was taking it to his car , he said it was not needed. I stopped him at the door and called LG. He was basically stealing the part. Referred to them by LG customer service. We came into agreement to having them come to my place to fix a dryer. Received a phone call from their technician inquiring if I'm gonna pay him or not!! Asked if I have a proof of insurance, I answers yes, sure as I'm referred to you by LG and they already sent you the ticket. Appointment set between 6-8 pm. No show! Called at 8 pm, he answered with a sleepy voice: Were you able to find the insurance?! Thanked him and hanged up! Unprofessional and disrespectful! read more

If you need somethin repaired on your LG products call Tom. He is such an incredibly thorough hardworking man and he will continually keep coming back to troubleshoot your issues. Unfortunately our model was a little old and we opted to not replace the main circuit board as it needed to be purchased from a third party vendor. Tom was not upset or pushy, the man came to the house 3 times and tried multiple other fixes to get the job done. His love is sealing the deal on these machine repairs and the look on his face was devastating when one of his troubleshooting methods didn't work. We called LG repair 2 weeks ago and a service tech from JOA came to our house. He wouldn't speak to me about the issue with the washer and asked me to leave the room as he was doing the repair. He told me he would order more parts and come back. 2 days later he installed the part and it still wasn't working, so he ordered another part and came back 2 days later. Still not working. All this time he was rude to me and never told me his name. Today he came back and ordered yet another part, saying he can't come until Monday (4 days from now). He was rude again to me in my driveway, and then rude to my husband. I called LG and they are sending a new technician. read more

This company gets zero stars. Not one. Our 1.75 year old L.G. range made a poping sound and had thick white smoke pouring out of it. It has already had issues in the past with heating. The technician from J.O.A. Electronics came out. The first time he came he said we needed a new motherboard. He then said at a later date we did not and nothing was wrong with it. He adjusted one wire and said it was all set. Well it was not all set. Another company came out and the heating element needed to be replaced. It had been working fine since January 2022 until June 2022 when a very loud popcorn popping sound happened and the oven had smoke pouring out of it. The technician from J.O.A Electronics called at 8:40 p.m. and said we cannot make our appointment tomorrow. I have to come at 9:30 p.m. tonight or will have to wait until next Tuesday. Here we are with the same technician. He walks in plugs the stove in and says there it's working. Let me not forget he opened the oven door too. "There is nothing wrong with it. I will let L.G. know." Rude, avoid at all costs, only worried about getting paid. He made sure he had the API number from L.G. which is how they get paid. He had zero regard for our situation and the safety of our family. I would starve for months before ever allowing this "repair technician" and company in my house again to "repair" any of my appliances. read more

I cannot begin to express how satisfied I am with Tom's services! He came yesterday to repair my 8 year old LG dishwasher. He came wearing a mask and took his shoes off outside automatically. He thoroughly checked the machine and connections and installed a new drain pump. I could not believe how reasonably -- insanely reasonable -- his prices were. I have LG electric Dryer that rotated fine but didn't heat. My wife called LG and referred to JOA Electronics. A rude man from JOA came, named Tom. He charged $130 to change the thermostat which I had paid him. However, Tom broke the belt (that turns the drum) while replacing the thermostat. So now, where the drum turned before he placed the thermostat, now the drum did not turn. When I told Tom to now replace the belt he broke, Tom said he needed $20 for the belt and that he was poor and had a lot of personal bills. I told him fine, I would pay him an extra $20. He said he would order the belt and return. When he returned, he said he needed $50 for the belt up front or he would leave without fixing it. When I asked him why $50, cause he told me $20, Tom told me he needed the money. When I told him no, I would only pay him the $20 he told me, he got very rude and angry. He left without replacing the belt he broke. read more

After two failed and very disappointing experiences with other repair organizations 0 which I have documented here on Yelp, I called JOA to arrange to have my LG range repaired. Tom at JOA listened to the problem, identified the part that I needed and said he would order it and have it overnighted to him. When it arrived, he called promptly and made an appointment to install it that evening. He arrived and quickly installed the new part. He also got the part for a significantly lower price than I could find it online. After my previous two experiences, JOA was a breath of fresh air. He did what he said. He did it promptly. And he corrected the issue in a very short timeframe and at a very fair price. IN the future, JOA will be my go to vendor for any repairs to LG appliances. read more

After eight years of service, our LG front end washing machine broke down. I contacted LG and they recommended JOA electronics. JOA electronics appears to be a one person operation, and the owner, Tom came by the day I called and said he could fix the machine later that week if he had the part. The spin basket needed to be replaced since the part that connected the basket to the motor had corroded, possibly due to me using too much soap. He called three days later and said he could stop by that day to repair the machine. Once he arrived, he took apart the machine, replaced the spin basket with the new one, cleaned out the tub, and put everything back together. The cost of the repair was very reasonable. The other company I contacted said it would cost more to repair the machine than it would be to purchase another machine. So if you need your LG washer repaired, I would highly recommend JOA. read more

My LG washer blew a fuse, and LG recommended 3 contractors (the washer was outside the warranty period). Of these, only JOA serves Westwood. Given the reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I knew a replacement would be more of a hassle than a repair if it worked. I gave him a call, and he said he could stop by in the evening. He showed up when he said he would, diagnosed the problem, and explained that he needed to replace the main board, which would take a week to arrive. On Wednesday, he said the part arrived, and asked if he could stop by. He came by that evening, and with a little help on my part to move the dryer stacked atop the washer, he got the main board replaced and the washer back to life, and the dryer perched back on top of the washer in a tight space. His price was very reasonable. My experience exceeded my expectations. If you have an LG appliance that needs repair, don't hesitate to go with JOA. read more

Tom fixed my LG 43 inch monitor yesterday. He is careful, slow and steady, meticulous in his work. Polite and pleasant. Not all repairs go as expected but the monitor works as intended now. I give Tom 5 stars and gave him a well deserved nice lunch $$ tip. read more

Every aspect of service from JOA Electronics was excellent. I find this company very timely and inexpensive and I will call them first for all electronic repair. The repairman was able to come out to assess the work needed within 2 hrs of my first call. He was very quick, courteous and professional. He was always available for an update and returned calls quickly. I had 3 LG standalone in-room AC units to fix. He very quickly identified the problem and ordered the parts. As soon as the parts arrived via overnight delivery he was back to make the fix. This company is excellent. read more

I was having issues with my LG washer dryer combo. He was able to come on the weekend and fix the machine within 2 hrs. The dryer vent was extremely clogged inside the machine, the clogged was removed and works great now. I highly recommend him. It was very reasonable price to 2 hrs of work. read more

Serviced and fixed our LG dishwasher within 2 days of our first phone call.Came out to Cambridge with the correct part (which was a motor covered by a 10 year warranty) did the job in under an hour. Other service companies were quoting 2 week lead times and refused to get involved in the warranty issue. I'd certainly call again if any of my other LG appliances needed repair. read more

I'm very happy that I found Tom. I was looking for someone who could put a propane converter kit into my gas LG dryer. I had a lot of difficulty finding a reputable shop that had the knowledge. One plumber I had come over said that the the construction of the dryer was something that he was unfamiliar with. He turned down the work, otherwise he estimated that it would take 4 hours at an hourly fee with only a 50% chance of not ruining the machine. Tom drove 40 minutes to our house, and did the work for a flat fee that was 1/6th what the plumber would charge. He knew what to do and did it right away. He even suggested switching the places of our washer and dryer for better positioning, and did it himself. read more

We have a front end LG washing machine. For a while it wasn't working properly. Detergent was not dispensing, wash cycle stopped in the middle, and it was leaking water. Although it may sound like the time has come to ditch the washer and buy a new one, we decided to take a chance and we called Tom Kim's JOA Electronics . I am very very pleased how it worked out. I could tell right away that Tom was very familiar with LG. He recognized the error code and pretty much diagnosed the problem from my description on the phone. He agreed to come as early as 7 AM so that I wouldn't be late for work. He came on time and it took him just 1 hour to fix everything. So glad I disregarded the few recent and very negative (one even bordering on racist) reviews knowing that I had used Tom about 5 years ago to fix our LG washer...and he did a great job! Ditto this time around (today) on our dryer repair. Our LG dryer started making a horrible banging sound yesterday - it was so bad that I was convinced we'd need to get a new machine. Tom responded to my phone call right away and said he could come over the next day. He was prompt, courteous (even taking his shoes off at the door), and most importantly, honest. I was expecting to pay $100 for labor and $25 for parts as he mentioned on the phone, but when writing him the check, he stopped me and said just $100 because he didn't need to use any spare parts.... refreshing honesty there! Turns out the motor in the dryer had shifted and was banging against the drum (caused by our contractor moving the machine during renovations). No hesitation in calling Tom for our future LG repairs! read more

Then it turned to be a loose connection, so he just fixed it, didn't charge me for the motherboard and took a lot of convincing to accept a tip from me. 7/9/2015 The soap dispenser in my LG washer kept filling up with water so I called LG to have someone look at it. The washer was still under warrantee. LG arranged for JOA Electronics (one of their appliance repair contractors) to come and look at the washer on Thursday July 9. About 10AM thatThursday I received a call from JOA that was so garbled that I could not understand anything being said. I tried calling back at least six times but my call immediatelly went to voice-mail. I then called LG to inform them that no one showed up for the scheduled appointment. LG then called JOA five or six times but every call went directly to voice-mail. Later that day, LG called to tell me that they finally reached JOA and found that JOA had overbooked for thursday and that they had to cancel some appointments. I also learned that JOA was a one-man operation. SHAME ON JOA FOR FAILING TO SHOW UP FOR A SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT AND SHAME ON LG FOR CONTRACTING WITH SUCH AN UNRELIABLE OUTFIT!!!!! read more
