My husband and I recently had the pleasure of working with Kerry and we are very proud of our new backyard that he created. Not only was Kerry's quote for our backyard landscaping project less than another company I received an estimate from, I appreciated his eagerness to bounce ideas off of each other and add some creative design suggestions. He is an extremely hard working and clearly takes pride in everything that he does. He was outside rain or shine and came back to our house multiple times after installation to make sure that everything had settled correctly. I found him on Yelp and was impressed with the wide variety of services his company provides. Our project included removal of existing sod, regrading, laying down new sod, a new stone barrier, mulch, fixing/replacing broken sprinkler heads, planting new plants/flowers, installing a drip system, removing weeds, and laying rock on the side yard. Kerry did most of the work himself, but occasionally had a small team help with with larger pieces of the project. Everyone was professional and easy to work with. More recently Kerry and his crew have taken down a couple of trees that were threatening my fence and house. They did a great job. They have cleaned my attic and helped around here immeasurably. I needed someone to come clean out an overgrown backyard and saw that JML services did so and had a fast response record. I emailed them through the yelp app and heard back almost immediately. I was able to talk to the business owner right away and got a quote and appointment immediately. He was so friendly, cheerful and knowledgeable, I hired him for the job right away. I was also looking for window washers and asked him if he had a recommendation, luckily enough they do that too! A couple days later they showed up on time and got to work. It was the owner and an assistant and they were both so friendly and had a great sense of humor. They did the best job and I couldn't be happier. After scanning the recommendations on Yelp!, we decided to call Kerry. Not only was he able to do everything we requested at an incredibly reasonable price but he did it all in one day! He was straight forward in his evaluation of what we wanted done and how much it would cost us and the finished job turned out exactly how we hoped. Wow - my response to JML's comment disappeared when they updated their response. In brief: * JML is located maybe 1 mile from my job - no mileage fees justified * No hauling/dumping fees justified - bundled bamboo etc just needed to be taken out to the curb for free Waste Management pickup. * My mention of "unskilled labor" was only to describe the nature of the job. I am less that 5' tall, considered a senior citizen by some, and was able to do more than half the work myself. I am unskilled. Again - discuss all charges upfront. That's how you build a reputable company. __________________________________________________________ I want to preface this by saying that this one-star review has nothing to do with job satisfaction. I didn't hire JML, though in fact I had a great first impression of Kerry, and wanted to hire him for this and future jobs. I am leaving this review because of what I felt was a deceptive business practice. I needed some yard cleanup done. Reattach a corrugated metal sheet that had blown off the shed roof. Trim and bundle a lot of bamboo. Remove and bundle dead shrubs. Other than the shed, it was unskilled labor. After our walkthrough, he verbally quoted 8 hours, 3-man crew. Acceptable rate, though I thought the 24 hours labor was overestimated. I received the emailed final quote, surprisingly with additional line items which increased the verbal estimate by about 50%. This was never mentioned at the walkthrough. In addition to the hourly quote, there were charges for attaching the ONE roof panel on the shed, no materials required, for the bush removal, and a charge for "Overhead and Profit." What? I replied that if he'd remove the added charges, he was hired. He declined. Fast forward. I have spent about 8 hours of my time working on the bamboo in recent weeks, what I could do myself. My arborist's crew (3 men) spent less than one hour removing and chipping the dead shrubs, as well as finishing the bamboo I couldn't reach. A friend came by last weekend and in an hour we had bundled the bamboo and moved it to the street for free pickup in the morning. Done, gone! The only thing not yet completed is the shed roof. Bottom line, it took a total of about 12 hours of work to complete the shrub and bamboo removal, unlike the 24 hours + extra charges quoted by Kerry. I owe my friend a dinner and the only other expenditure was to pay the arborist, who charged me about 10% of the total final estimate from JML. read more

I have a backyard that was lying dormant during this drought and came alive when all these storms came around. Everything grew at least 2-3 feet and was out of control. We set up a day and Kerry came out and gave me a quote for the best removal method for my budget. He came back a week later as we had discussed with his workers (Lupe and I forgot the other guy. Sorry!) and they packed everything and had it hauled away in less than 30 minutes! I couldn't believe how fast and efficient they were getting my yard cleared. Kerry Shaw is definitely going to be a contact in my phone for a while, cause on top of being a pleasant person to work with, he will always work with his customer to help get the results they want. Our backyard lawn needed a makeover after I stopped using our sprinkler system during the California drought. With summer approaching, I figured our 3 kids would enjoy playing in lush, clean, and green grass as opposed to a patchy, weed overrun lawn. New sod was needed so I shopped around among the various landscapers in the area. Kerry and JML Cleaning Services came on my radar because of Yelp. Well, I've come full circle since I am now writing up this review but I have my reasons. First off, JML provided a quote that beat out or at least was very competitive compared to the 4 other companies I reached out to. After providing the quote, Kerry provided helpful insight and suggestions on this project that would ultimately show me that he was genuine about the quality of work he provided while keeping the project budget friendly. In other words, he wasn't trying to upsell. We needed a new lawn and he was there to provide a new lawn. 'Nuff said. During the 2 day process, Kerry and his team showed up on time and were professional all the way through. Kerry even replaced a sprinkler head that may or may not have been previously broken prior to their work. Regardless, I appreciated this little detail. They respected the property during the project and delivered quality results. We were looking for someone to do a large yard clean-up as our front and back yard were terribly overgrown with weeds. We were also looking to do some minor tree trimming as well. I found JML based on their positive reviews here on Yelp. I spoke with Lenita and explained what work we needed done and what our budget was. Lenita was great and helped us stay within our budget. We contracted her team for a weekend and they were able to knock everything out. We had some unforeseen circumstances arise during the cleanup and Lenita was able to handle them professionally and with grace. We loved the work that Lenita and her team were able to do and I would definitely recommend them for any services needed. I chose them based on the fact that they not only did they provide landscaping services, but tree trimming and junk removal services as well. As an out of town real estate agent it was imperative to find someone reliable that could get the job done in a workmanlike manner and in a timely fashion. Kerry and JML saved the day and assisted with removing all of the old carpet, provided yard clean up, and cleaned the house. (including the windows...so clear I almost walked through them!!) He worked around the schedule of the painter and followed through while working around a plumbing issue. Despite what came his way he got the job done. Hired JML to do my apartment, as my tenant moved out and little lawn in the front. Don't get me wrong, he is a very hard working man, but Janitorial is not his thing. He showed up with chemicals to clean the bathrooms but no toilet brush. Did a good job pulling the weed's out. Did ok job scrubbing the bathtub. The issue i had was i had to tell him the spots that were still dirty and him going back to it and doing it right. Plus when we are done in the evening he shows me what else could be done to clean the apartment better, like the base boards etc. If he had mentioned all that in the very beginning, i would have had him do it and pay him the extra. Telling a client what else could make the unit look cleaner when you are done in the evening does not help. Not sure the five stars his getting s a true re flexion of his Janitorial work, maybe it relates more to landscaping and trash removal. read more
