    M & L Septic Services

In the past I have recommended M & L on several occasions. But after my last experience with them,…read moreI will no longer do so. I am not the original owner of my house. But since M & L installed the septic when it was built in 2009, I have continued to use their service. In June 2021 the pump motor stopped working. M & L came out and I was told the issue was corroded electrical connections which they repaired. In August 2023 the pump again stopped working and this time M & L completely replaced the outside part of the wiring down into the tank's junction box. October 2025, the pump quit again, this time tripping the circuit breaker. M & L said the pump motor needed replaced. After installing the new motor, the tech also advised that the metal electrical junction box inside the tank where the wires were connected was rusted out, that he had removed it and reconnected the wiring, but did not replace the box, relating that one was not necessary. $650.00 later, he told me we should be good to go. About 7:30 pm last Friday (1-12-26) during a heavy downpour, I heard a circuit breaker trip in the panel box and found that it was the septic again. This rendered our system inoperative over the weekend. When I contacted M & L Monday morning at about 8:25, I spoke with the call-taker, told her of another breaker trip, and reminded her they were just out in October, at which time we were told the issue had supposedly been fixed. She said she would check their repair records and call me back. She did and said "Well, it's been three months since we were out there." My contention was that it's ONLY been three months since they were out, and the breaker is tripping again. She became increasingly defensive and rude and said something to the effect of it's Monday and she had just gotten to work and hadn't even had a chance to [something] yet. Suffice it say the conversation devolved from there. She tersely replied she would send someone out and hung up on me before I could even ask what time the service tech would be out. I then called back and asked to speak to her boss or someone in charge, to which she replied he wasn't there. After the tech arrived, he went into the back yard without contacting me to let me know he was there. When I went out to meet him I noted that unlike his past service calls, now he would not look at me or acknowledge my presence until I spoke first, and then he had little to say. It was obvious he was po'd. After removing the septic access lid, he initially maintained that we had a power surge, pointing to burnt wiring connections. I advised him there were no indications of that happening with anything else in the house. While inspecting further, it became readily apparent what had happened. The ground lid had not been adequately fastened back down after his last repair, and rainwater Friday night had run in through the gap, and onto the electrical connections, which he had not put back into a protective electrical junction box. The wet wires shorted out which tripped the breaker, thank God. He redid the connections and this time sealed them in a plastic box. I was not charged for the repairs, but I may feel better having the septic electrical wiring checked by a qualified electrician. My review here is in regard to the quality and safety concerns of the electrical aspects of M & L work, and the unacceptable customer service I encountered. Rather than being shown understanding over my frustration, or receiving any apologies from anyone at M & L for the inconvenience, I was treated as if this somehow had been my fault. This is being disseminated so others are aware of some concerning issues at M&L Septic.
