It normally gets to the stage when I'm walking down the street and feel my hair at a certain point, I'll just walk into the next hair salon I see. However, having passed The Barber's Shop on several occasions, I made a mental note to make use of their services the next time my hair inevitably reached the point where I ceased to look like a human and more closely resembled some sort of yeti. The Barber's Shop is the best of both worlds, modern and sleek, but designed to evoke the classic, traditional barber shop feel of a bygone era (complete with spinning pole outside!). They've got various Birmingham City Football Club merchandise on the wall, giving the place a real local feel. The look isn't the only thing reminiscent of days gone by; the prices are fantastic, just £7 for a gents cut. I've never even had to wait when using The Barber Shop, but should you have to, there's a great selection of magazines and some cushiony sofas to occupy you. One of Birmingham's best.

You can get breakfast, brunch, lunch or coffee and cake - AND you can get your haircut!! At certain times haircut with FREE coffee. Pretty cool concept - so long as they keep hair out of my coffee. Neat place, different and part of a very nice covered shopping area. Keep up with the innovations guys - love it!

Popped to this barbers for a haircut (obvs). On entry was followed by another gent and, at first,…read moregot completely ignored in favour of this other customer. Was eventually acknowledged so decided to wait as I needed a haircut. Other guy was offered an appointment in an hour, which he declined, I was not. The guy who at first ignored me explained that he always cuts this guy's hair and I should be next in with the other barber anyway. Guess what. Another customer turns up for his appointment with the other barber. When the first guy had finished I was basically told that I would be waiting for the other barber as the guy who followed me in had his hair cut by guy 1; no discussion, no option. It's usual practice in a barber's for the customer to decide whether he's waiting for his hair to be done by a particular barber, isn't it?

Like stepping back into the world of Quadrophenia and taking all the best parts of 1960's, 70's and 80's pop culture and displaying them proudly all over the walls of the shop. I really find looking at all the memorabilia so nostalgic and makes the time sat waiting to see one of the immaculately dressed barbers very short. Even one of the hairdryers I notice had a black and white two tone print on it! Ace Face certainly isn't style over substance. I visit the barbers to have my beard neatened and the attention and care they give to my face is second to none. Lots of time is dedicated to the trim using a range of different equipment to make sure I leave the barbers feeling like a new man. Highly recommended gents!

Strangely, they also do Rocker styles as well such as Elvis quiffs. Perhaps they should have rockers in on different days to mods otherwise Great Barr might soon resemble Brighton Beach as depicted in Graeme Green's classic book. The owners also run mod events at The Victoria pub in town in the form of Club-A-Go-Go, with DJs spinning rare 60's and live bands like the horn-heavy DC Fontana. Here's the strange thing; If you prided your self on being a specialist barbers for a cult that is sharp and style conscious, then you might have some pictures of the styles that you've cut on your website. It's a proper barber with cut throats, how towels and even ear flaming. Very relaxed. The boys keep up some pretty funny bantz between themselves and the regulars. They are quite skilled. They can handle my hair, which can turn into a complete mess - thinning on top, very fine, tends to point every whichway If not cut correctly. At other barbers I've walked out with a lopsided friar tuck hairdo. Not a problem here, 3/3 so far. Based on what I've seen on other clientele, they're quite experienced with the greaser/rockabilly/hipsters hairdos that you punk kids are into. Sedge is the more experienced of the pair, if you're after something exotic. The limited space/staff means that if you catch them at a busy time you'll have to wait. Usually 2 or 3 people in front of me whenever I turn up on a Saturday. 10 quid for a cut. Totally worth it.
