Like stepping back into the world of Quadrophenia and taking all the best parts of 1960's, 70's and 80's pop culture and displaying them proudly all over the walls of the shop. I really find looking at all the memorabilia so nostalgic and makes the time sat waiting to see one of the immaculately dressed barbers very short. Even one of the hairdryers I notice had a black and white two tone print on it! Ace Face certainly isn't style over substance. I visit the barbers to have my beard neatened and the attention and care they give to my face is second to none. Lots of time is dedicated to the trim using a range of different equipment to make sure I leave the barbers feeling like a new man. Highly recommended gents!

Strangely, they also do Rocker styles as well such as Elvis quiffs. Perhaps they should have rockers in on different days to mods otherwise Great Barr might soon resemble Brighton Beach as depicted in Graeme Green's classic book. The owners also run mod events at The Victoria pub in town in the form of Club-A-Go-Go, with DJs spinning rare 60's and live bands like the horn-heavy DC Fontana. Here's the strange thing; If you prided your self on being a specialist barbers for a cult that is sharp and style conscious, then you might have some pictures of the styles that you've cut on your website. On this barbers site they are conspicuous by their absence.

It was quite busy today, being a Saturday, but they had at least 7 barbers on the floor working professionally and to high standard with each customer. An amazing thing about Turkish Golden Scissors is that even when busy they won't rush the individual they are looking after. When it is your turn, and you see there is a queue, the barber never lets you feel that he has to rush; but your his/her priority for however long he/she is with you. I was asked if I wanted a drink, and I had my favourite Turkish tea which is a great drink to have while you wait. Had a pleasant chat with the barber too who asked questions about me and they were genuine. All I'd say is that there is no uniform way of cutting or styling your hair, so you don't know who you will see, how he will treat you and what will you look like at the end. But, I've not had a bad experience yet, and by the looks of everyone, I don't think I will. However, some have done a better job than others. Overall, will keep coming back for the spar-like treatment.

Offering wash, cut and style from just £10 their services are very reasonably priced. Seeing that they offer a traditional shave and that I'm off camping tomorrow, I go in for this service as I want a close shave so I'm not looking too feral by Monday morning. My face is prepared by the way of a very hot towel; the stylist tells me that this opens up the pores and expands the skin on the face and will allow him to get as close a shave as possible. Then he rubs a light lather into my face. Then the moment of trust is upon me! But, of course I have nothing to fear, and 10 minutes later, I'm out of the door with a face as smooth as a baby's doo-dah. At £10 it may seem steep but it's nice as treat for special occasions.

Both of us were given a drink (a real one, with alcohol) and I note that they do cocktails on a Friday. Shame we were mid week! It looks very cool inside, traditional but with that industrial edge. There are several item s for sale including vintage razors, hair waxes etc. My partner was given a shoe shine while waiting which was a really nice touch. They then let loose on his whiskers and I have to say it looked really nice! And slightly hilarious when they wrapped his entire face in the towel. The shave lasts around half an hour I think and he really enjoyed it, actually very relaxing too. They finished up with an orange scented aftershave, and it was a very close shave. Other men there had beard trims/sculpts etc and the range of services seems good. It was a bit pricey but, sometimes that's all part of the experience! I wish I could go myself, it's very cool. The barbers are ace.
