Three skewer platter, shawarma sandwich, naan, hummus, and baba ghanoush!

I've driven past this place dozens of times, finally stopped in and now I can honestly say it's one of the best Mediterranean restaurants I have ever been to. The food was spectacular, the service was great, and the restaurant was super homey! My husband and I got a sandwich, baba ghanoush, and a kebab platter to split and try everything- so so so so good!

Grape leaves

Just an official observation- five stars for the owner and son being amazing humans making delicious food and sharing it with anyone who enters their establishment. We all had lamb in different ways lol and the chicken soup - so so so good! We had stuffed grape leaves, very nice! Thank you so much! The lamb was tender and delicious... like I could of ordered more lamb. So good y'all omg! Ooooh and the the rice- oooh man. So buttery and tender too. The hummus is really great! We enjoyed our food and the company of the owner. Friendly and funny!!!!! Also he's in love with Glo. lol so cute they were! Chefs kiss hit em five times!

What a pleasant surprise. Customer service is elite & the food was great. Such flavorful fresh food. The inside is well thought out & comfortable. I honestly can't say enough good things. This is a new favorite go to spot. 10/10 recommend. I wanted to tip on card but they have a box that extra cash goes towards feeding the homeless. What a blessing this place is to our community. Go check it out! Thanks again for the awesome service & great conversation. I'll be back :)

Had a great time at JJ's Grill went with my mom and a friend forgot to take pictures of my food.....and everybody else's but ‼I got the lamb. I got the order number three and my mom got order 13! and I believe my friend also got an order of lamb chops. Everybody practically had Liam. It was really good serve differently. It had just enough to to get full and to have something to bring home, the man who runs the restaurant was very friendly. The son is the one who rung us up. He was very kind and polite as you go to the sit down you have an option to get some free soup that had chicken and something else in there. It was pretty good. I took a cup of it home overall we experience I'll give a 10 out of 10. Just a little chilly in there so bring a jacket. lol ace works

Help keep this place alive! It's a MUST try. The man that runs it will feed you and treat you like family. The food is amazing!!! and the ambiance is very relaxed. Authentic mediterranean home cooking made from the heart. You can tell they are proud of their business and the food they cook. 5 stars and a standing ovation JJ. You absolutely deserve it.

Falafel with dipping sauce. Like no other!
Carmen S.

Mr JJ puts his special touch in everything he does. His latest creation, the green sauce is spicy, herby, and full of flavor. I tried two new to me things, the Falafel is like no other. It is made from scratch, fresh and delicious. It comes with six pieces and creamy dipping sauce. I also had the salad with Beef Shawarma. It was an explosion of colors, textures and flavors. Mr JJ added crunchy pita pieces, lettuce, white and purple cabbage, tomatoes, red onions, and even fresh crunchy cranberries. The dressing was light and delicious letting you enjoy every bite. I sprinkled some of the new green sauce on, and it brought it to another dimension. I accompanied it with a freshly made mango slushy! Yum! Next time, I'm trying the humus with meat. It looked amazing! We brought Mr JJ's crunchy and sweet Baklava for dessert tonight. Can't wait! Please run to try this business!

People need to be talking about this place more, I had the absolute best experience here. I was getting gas planning on getting takeout after a long day of work. I saw this place out of the corner of my eye, wondering why I'd never seen it before. I decided to give it a try and it was the best thing I did all day. The inside is very simple, nothing flashy, with a couple of decorations. These are the best places. I needed a minute to get a feel for the menu, and the gentleman running the place was very kind, friendly, and helpful once I made up my mind. I ordered the family meal, figuring my husband and I could eat on it for a couple of days, and it would enable us to try a nice variety of their offerings. Best decision ever. While waiting, the gentleman pointed me to some free Arab-style chicken noodle soup for dine-in patrons. The soup was soul-warming. As for the family meal, we were very impressed. Everything was absolutely delicious and very obviously made with so much love and care. Keep this place on your radar! I can't wait to come back and try as much of the menu as I can. Come check this place out!!

Beef shawarma wrap

We drive by JJ's all the time but decided to stop in today for dinner. 100% no regrets at all! I got the beef gyro wrap and my fiance got the lamb platter. They offer free chicken soup for people who dine-in so we grabbed a cup as well -- this is the first time I've seen a restaurant incentivize their customers to dine in, it was a nice surprise. Everything was absolutely delicious. The owner is so nice and even came by our table to check to see how the food was. We will definitely be coming here regularly, can't believe we haven't tried it until now.

#18 fried salmon
Michelle W.

Excellent customer service! The food was good too! It was full of flavor! There is a lot to choose from on the menu but I had a craving for salmon so I picked #18 fried salmon. It came with rice, salad and hummus. You get plenty for the cost (about $18). It also comes with 2 sauces, tzatziki and a green sauce. I like the green sauce best. I ordered my food to go but noticed they had plenty of inside seating. They also had a wide variety of non alcoholic drink choices and desserts to choose from.

Lamb chops meal, baklava, mango slush

Have seen this place driving past a few times and have been wanting to try finally came in with my boyfriend. We were greeting by who I am assuming is the owner and he was so welcoming and helpful. Right off the bat the food in the salad bar on display looked so amazing, lots of fresh veggies and fresh fruits for juice they squeeze in house! So few places have a fresh squeezed juice option and it's really superior. I ordered the lamb chops (if I remember correctly it's the number 10) all the dishes come with salad, rice, grilled veggies, pita, and hummus. I substituted the hummus for baba ghanoush because my bf was getting the hummus with his and we wanted to try them both. My boyfriend ordered the marinated lamb leg kebab (the number 3) with all the fixings. We also got a mango slushy and baklava in both pecan and pistachio varieties. While we waited for our food we sat down at taller table where we enjoyed some complimentary soup. We had ordered our food to go but after some delicious free soup we decided the vibes were immaculate and decided to sit down and enjoy our meal there. Once the food came we moved to a booth in the back and got cozy. My lamb chops were so juicy! Perfectly cooked and tender, really hit the mark. My boyfriend's lamb was also perfectly cooked just a touch of pink in the center, which is how it should be in my opinion. I'm often disappointed at other middle eastern/ Mediterranean restaurants in town because they manage to over cook their lamb, making it dry and not worth paying a premium price. Another thing I really enjoyed was the salad it wasn't the usual lettuce based Greek type salad. There was a mix of lots of healthy veggies, and a flavorful punch from vinegar and herbs. I would eat that salad every day. Even the rice was exceptionally good, more flavor than your average yellow rice, tons of herbs and a bit of sweetness (maybe from raisins? I couldn't tell). Hummus and Baba Ghanoush were no different than anything else ... amazing. Now for the criticisms: My boyfriend really liked the flatbread with red sauce, but for me this was a miss I wasn't a huge fan of the bread. We also thought the baklava was good but not our favorite in town which I really hate to say because the owner was so kind and gave us an extra one to go on the house. Overall an amazing place to eat. Fromthe incredibly attentive service and the owners ability to make us feel like we were dining in the home of an old friend, to the food that really knocked it out of the park there isn't a person I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to.

Number 6 in the menu.

I can not emphasise how flavourful and delightful the food and the atmosphere were. I really enjoyed every bite of my food. You could tell the food was cooked with so much passion and care. This is was my second visit and the owner remembered me which made me feel like an old acquaintance. He goes above and beyond to check on his customers and make sure they are happy and like their food. I took my mother in law for her birthday, she was trying to find the secret recipe of his rice and he wouldn't reveal that lol. We had a great time and he joked with us. Thank you JJ for complimentary soup, delicious food, and great atmosphere. We definitely will come back.

1 x 05. Three Skewers Mixed Platter $22.99
Jenny T.

This place is a gem! Due to of the mixed reviews I've decided to order takeout and give it a try (all of the photos look too good not to). They don't take orders over the phone but you can pre-pay on the website or go into order. When we walked in to pick up, the owner was on his own running a one-man show. Still, he was extremely friendly and seemed happy to be there. He was very welcoming and even joked with us as if we were regulars. The two platters took about 30 minutes to prepare which I think is reasonable. Everything came out very fresh and hot. I had the mix three kebab platter to try everything. Came with one skewer meat kofta kabab (ground beef and lamb mix) one chicken kofta kabab (Very juicy. Definitely a favorite) & one shish Tawook. (I think this was also chicken but marinated & blended differently. The texture was a little more chewy than the chicken kofta) Both dishes came with a side salad, hummus and what the restaurant calls "one bread loaf marinated with JJ red sauce". It's a flat chewy "bread" that's smothered in a tomatoes smokey paste. I could eat a hundred pieces of this bread. It was so addicting. The red sauce added so much flavor you could just have it on its own. I am surprised the platter did not come with any side sauces like tzatziki or garlic paste. Maybe it did not pair well with the platter. I just happen to really like tzatziki sauce. Going forward, I'll definitely add it to my order. I regret not dining in to try the free soup on the counter. It was self-help along with the water. Upfront was a small refrigerator with multiple options for cake and sauces. (also regret not grabbing some to take home) Overall, I'm very happy with my experience. The food, the service, the owner, everything deserves 5 stars in my book. Will definetly be returning to try the rest of the menu.

So, no more false statements that I never visited this awful restaurant. Thankyouverymuch.
Anni F.

The 'exorcist' (so professional - not) has deleted and updated his response to me about 5 times now, including several TOS (terms of service) issues where he called me a liar, said I worked at another restaurant, said I never went to his restaurant, etc. None of that true. See the attached bill statement - I was there. I spent over $20 for ONE meal. I left as nice a review as I could while being honest, I even wished him luck. I could have said a lot more, but the bottom line is if you leave a less than 5 star review, which is not deserved from my experience, he'll become absolutely obsessed with you and keep writing and rewriting his rebuttal to something that just cannot change - it was not good for me. Let it go, dude. You were not good with me and neither was your food, and now you're just making yourself look even more crazy. You're bullying people to prevent reviews you don't like, and that's not cool. So if you like massively over-peppered food with lots of bitter spices, to the point your palate burns and is numb for 2 days, and to be argued with when you wish to add tzatziki (which he did do) and which is just as flavorless as his 'garlic' sauce, by all means, go here. I'm glad for those who liked it, but I'm not in that camp. There are superb well-established Mediterranean restaurants in Lou, such as Safia and Shiraz. If you've not tried them, do a comparison. I also highly recommend Annie's Cafe in Beechmont - the BEST!, Taj Palace on Goosecreek - the BEST!, El Molcajete on 4th, La Pinata on 3rd, Thai Noodles on Preston, Yummy Pollo on Bishop lane (so good, so gracious!) Guanajuato (restaurant inside grocery) on Preston and on Bardstown - and more. And I don't work at ANY of them, like DUH. I just don't recommend THIS restaurant. If you saw all the crazy iterations of responses, coupled with his chosen 'professional' name on here, it should be enough to let you know everything you need to make safe and sane choices for yourself. There are lots of good restaurants in Lou, explore them. No one needs this kind of drama.

The service was just as impressive -- attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable without ever feeling rushed. MeeshMeesh is the kind of place that makes dining feel like an experience, not just a meal. One of the best restaurants in Louisville, and definitely a spot we'll keep coming back to. Highly recommend for a date night, celebration, or anyone who loves trying unique and delicious food! I was able to score a visit recently on Derby Week, and that will be one of the highlights of Derby Week this year for me. We arrived shortly before our reservation time after hearing that our table was ready. I was seated at the bar, to be joined by my good friend a few minutes later. The cocktail menu sounded intriguing, and I started with an Oopsie Daisy and she sprung for Fighting Words. As we sipped our drinks, we perused the menu and decided on an array of mezze as our meal that night. Crispy cauliflower arrived first, followed shortly by tuna tartare, then whipped labneh and spring pea hummus. They even provided a gluten free pita option for the gluten sensitive in our party. Out of our choices, the cauliflower and the spring pea hummus were my favorites, although everything was very good. Throughout our meal, the staff was attentive and kept our waters full, cleared plates as appropriate, and made sure we didn't need anything else during our visit. Worth every one of its 5 stars, I think you'll enjoy Meesh Meesh just as much when you go, too!
