This company provided us with an estimate to install a storm drain system, involving the digging of…read morea long trench across our property. The presence of buried lawn sprinkler system water pipes and dock lights electrical supply cables were pointed out and marked by them appropriately, before any work began. The company promised to repair any damage to these which may be caused and even hand-dug the area around the dock lights, to as to expose the electrical supply cable, in advance.
Their sub-contractor delivered a Bobcat excavator, but not a promised front loader, on the day. The excavator driver dug the trench, but in the process ripped up the buried sprinkler pipes and electrical cables, as well as destroying many plants and several ornamental flower-beds. The new drain then was buried in the trench, but the connections and new drain openings were not completed.
When we protested over the damage to the sprinkler pipes and power cables, we were told that an extra $1,500 would be charged to repair these and to finish the job. Because of their earlier promise, we refused to pay this new charge and insisted that they complete the job, as originally promised and for the agreed amount. The company then simply abandoned the job and declined to perform any further work until this new charge was met.
They also had not obtained the necessary building permit, as it turned out, or even to have informed us that this was required, so we also were fined $350 because of this. We offered to off-set this fine against their charges, but this was refused.
So, now we are left with an uncompleted drain system, which does not work properly, a useless lawn sprinkler system and dock lights which do not work, plus a back lawn which resembles a battle-field!
We are in the process of filing an official complaint against this company with the county now and are considering court action for Breach of Contract.
So, caveat emptor...!!!
