The Vibe: Lean Into Your Deepening Before class, Callie…read morewelcomed me in and got me situated. We started talking. Come to find out, we're both from the Chicagoland area. Yoga continues to be such an intimate lil' world. The Guide: Reza Samadhi * Heated OLY Flow We began with the breath: Five-count inhale. Six-count exhale. Reza gave us our point of focus: The breath. We moved slowly. Smoothly. Fluidly. Long poses invited us to deepen the breath. Flying transitions reminded us to keep breathing... until it felt like gliding. Eventually, we came down. In Seated Butterfly, Reza offered one more reminder: "Lean into your deepening." And then... that moment when something understood in the mind is experienced in the body. Lean into what's ready to open. Finally, ripe and ready for Savasana. Music off. Silence. The Tribe Callie's welcome made arriving easy. Two lives from the Midwest somehow meeting inside a yoga studio in Pasadena. The Space & Place One Life Yoga sits above the street. Up the stairs, messages appeared: Increase energy. Improve concentration. At the top, the studio opens into: White walls. Dark wood floors. Exposed ceiling beams. Plants spilling from windows and shelves. Chairs gathered around fresh flowers. And Ganesha waiting just outside the yoga room. Summary We moved. We breathed. We deepened. The Shift "Lean into your deepening." There it was: A teaching moving from thought into experience. ‍ Yoga Field Note: Practice turns knowing into being.

At first I was excited since I live nearby and planned to start yoga as a self care practice. The lady who initially called me when I signed up urged me to start asap. I notified her that I was still sorting through my schedule as this is the first month of the school year so it's a bit busy on my end. She wasn't friendly so this made me want to put it off for even longer. Mind you, the trial doesn't start until the day I come in for my first session so I was under the impression that I had time. 3 weeks later, my trial that has been already paid for has "expired". I called and emailed, still no response. I'll be doing a charge back on my card since this is bad business practice. Even worse, when I had called them it's either the phone doesn't get answered or the guy who did answer was clueless about which direction I should take. Will not be recommending to anyone and hopefully I get my money back.

It has calming lighting that makes it easy to settle in, whether it's your first class or you've been doing Pilates for a while. Even on my first vist, I didn't feel intimidated walking through the doors, which I really appreciate. The instructors are what keep me coming back. For the complimentary session, we had Angela. Weekly, my schedule would line up to when Season would teach! They are both so attentive throughout class and always takes the time to correct my form or offer modifications when needed. I never feel called out and they took the time to get to know my husband and I! They genuinely seem to want everyne to get the most out of the workout and move safely. Every class leaves me feeling stronger, more balanced, and somehow in a better mood than when I walked in. It's challenging in all the right ways, but the environment is so encouraging that I actually look forward to coming back. If you're looking for a Pilates studio with knowledgeable instructors, a welcoming community, and space that is aesthetically pretty that feels just as good as the workout, I'd definitely recommend giving this studio a try!

I visited MVMT Studios in Alhambra once using the free trial, and I have mixed feelings about this…read morepilates studio. I do admit it was my very first pilates class, so I had zero knowledge of how to use machines properly or any pilates etiquette or lingo. I think there is a slight learning curve. I later learned the class I took was a reformer class due to the reformer machine we used. My friend told me about this studio, so I signed up for a free trial on their website. The date I wanted was not available yet, so I closed the web page. I was able to text them to see when the class schedule would be available. When the time came, I tried to book the date on the website, but I was unable to log in. I don't recall ever making a password, so it was frustrating not being able to schedule a class. I ended up texting the same number to see if I could book the free trial class, and they confirmed nine hours later. I see that other people also had issues with their website and sign up system. Leading up to the class, I was really nervous because it was my first experience with pilates and I heard it's hard. When I checked in with my friend, we were berated for not coming 15 minutes early. I was told to my face, "it's your fault" for arriving late, so they weren't able to go through the introductions as they normally would for first-timers. I was shocked to not be welcomed, and I tried to shake it off thinking maybe he meant it as a joke. Unfortunately, this made me even more anxious for the rest of the class. The text message said this class was beginner friendly, but I think the instructor could have explained things better. I was constantly looking at the girl next to me because I wasn't sure what placements and positions were correct. Maybe they meant beginner as in the difficulty level. Another thing I was confused with - I thought the instructor I had was the owner Angela, but I later learned she wasn't. I think it would have been nice if the instructor introduced herself to me, a new student, and asked me how the class went. Instead, I was handed a towel and spray bottle after class. I later learned the etiquette is to wipe down after use. I think what I should have done was to research a studio that offers intro classes for brand new pilates students. This wasn't it. After class the guy told us he messaged us with a limited offer for future classes. I felt pressured to make a quick decision, but I hadn't even had time to check my phone. I quickly checked the message and email, and they were both really long with a lot of information. I did reach out to the business with my concerns as a first-timer, and they responded very professionally. It seems like they are a new business, and I do think there's room for improvement for making first impressions. I can't say I loved my first pilates class, so I can't see myself continuing doing pilates. In regard to their pricing, they offer two options for purchasing classes: membership or class packages. They're offering "Founding Member" unlimited classes for $259/month, and they are only 50 founding memberships. For the more convenient class package option, one class is $39, or you can get as many as 20 classes in 6 months for $500. There is a lot more details, so it's better to read the policies on their website.

It is clear that a lot of thought has gone into the overall client experience, from check-in to the little touches throughout the studio. Signing up was simple, parking was easy, and check-in was a breeze. They even welcome you with a complimentary yuzu matcha shot before each session, which is such a fun touch. There are also assigned lockers inside the classroom, along with complimentary eucalyptus towels. Lagree can definitely feel intimidating when you are new, so I really appreciate that they offer a Foundations class in addition to their regular Full Body class. I took Foundations with Shanti, and I liked that she did not rely heavily on complicated Lagree terminology. Everything was easy to follow, which I think is especially helpful when you are taking your first few classes and still learning the Megaformer. The studio itself is also really thoughtfully laid out. There is a lobby and waiting area when you first walk in. If you do not see anyone at the front, they are usually on the right preparing the welcome matcha shots and smoothies. The classroom is on the left, while the right side has the wellness amenities. Location: The studio is located in the Ralphs plaza, toward the back entrance. There is plenty of plaza parking, which is a huge plus. They do not have exterior signage up yet, so it can be a little tricky to find the first time, but once you know where it is, it is pretty easy to get to. Overall, I really like how many little details Nova has thought through. It feels clean, organized, welcoming, and beginner-friendly. My bestie goes here for Lagree, and I was excited to finally check it out after seeing it on…read moreClassPass. I went on a Sunday afternoon, and the class was completely full! Cindy was our instructor. The class itself was okay, but I found some of the instructions difficult to follow. Since it was a full class and Cindy was not using a Megaformer for her demonstrations, it was also challenging to see the movements clearly. I think the transitions between exercises could have been smoother as well. The biggest issue for me was the studio layout. When you enter, you walk directly into the classroom, with storage cubes and the sign-in area along the side. There is no separate lobby or waiting area, so you either wait outside or awkwardly stand inside while the previous class finishes, cleans up, and leaves. The bathroom is located in the back, which makes things a little inconvenient if you arrive early and need to change or use the restroom before class. You still have to wait for the previous class to clear out before you can comfortably get settled. I wonder if having clients enter through the back could help make the transition between classes feel less awkward. The studio itself also felt a bit cramped. When the class is full, it can be difficult to see the instructor's demonstrations, and taller clients may have trouble fully extending their limbs without getting too close to the walls or other equipment. If you're taller, try to come earlier and pick a megaformer on the right wall side for more space. This is an issue they are aware of and told us during class. Pros: * Large, clean restroom * Eucalyptus-scented towels at the end of class * The studio smells amazing, like eucalyptus! * Easy parking, there is a free parking structure next to the studio. Overall, I think the studio layout and class setup could use some improvements, especially when the class is full. I appreciate the eucalyptus touches and the clean facilities, but having more space and better visibility of the demonstrations would make for a more comfortable experience.
