Wonderful Chinese food and atmosphere for days on the way out of Winchester.. stop by as soon as you can

We've eaten here dozens of times over the past few years because it is close enough to grab on the way home. The food is ok. Nothing special. I have noticed that the restaurant is not as clean as it was a few years ago which has deterred me in the past few months. The price is good for the amount of food and it'll do in a pinch if you're craving Chinese but there are better offerings nearby. read more

This is my third year in Winchester and have struggled to find that go to Chinese restaurant. The search is over. We dined in and the staff were very nice. I had the best chicken with black bean sauce I've had in years. The heat level of teh hot and sour soup can be adjusted and I opted for a touch more than normal. Very good soup. One of my children had the chicken mei fun and it was clean and well done. My wife enjoyed the house special egg foo young noting that the gravy was the best in recent memory. I'm ready to go back and try some other dishes. read more

First visit to Jin Zhou today and it was great! The food was delicious, service was excellent. The restaurant is spotless and a really nice atmosphere. GREAT hot and sour soup. Very nice lunch specials. Highly recommend! read more

Lovely Chinese restaurant, immaculately clean and peaceful. Staff is friendly, service is top notch and the food is delicious. Each item is perfectly prepared, crispy egg rolls, best hot and sour soup ever, tender meat, vegetables cooked to perfection. Sauces are perfect. Nice lunch menu at reasonable prices. Have tried several Chinese restaurants since moving here, this is my favorite. Easy on and off Berryville Pike, ample parking. Thank you for a great dining experience! read more

Ordered here a couple times and have regretted it each time. This time stale fortune cookies, flavorless chicken and greasy food. Accidentally dropped half of the lo mein on the floor and felt relieved that I wouldn't have to eat it. Overall bad quality food. So not worth it. read more

If I could give less than one star, I would. Here are my reasons why: The Wonton Soup - Please refer to the "Website Menu" picture, for this is the Wonton Soup they claim to prepare. The soup is pictured in "Soup 1". As you can see in "Wonton PT 1", the meat is nearly non-existent. The wonton itself is a pourly rolled wad of undercooked dough, with a sprinkle of chewy potsticker "wannabe" meat. When I look at this soup, I feel sad. Its depressing lack of color and everything inspiring makes me sad. But, lets get to the rest of the soup! The meat. "Holy Jesus of the Lord and Heaven's Above," the meat is a worm. I'm not sure in what world this is acceptable, but they cut the pork so thin and slim that it is a literal worm of horrid flavor, not to mention the gelatin coating. Please refer to "Wonton PT 2" for view of this lovely specimen. Oh wait! The veggies! YES, the veggies! Unlike every other Wonton Soup under the sun, this one has a huge variety of veggies! Green onion and green onion . . all three of them. Don't eat them all in one bite! Please refer back to the photo of what they claim their wonton soup is. Also refer to "Wonton PT 3" for the photos of the veggie buffet. The odor accompanying this soup . . is horrid. It smelt of rancid fish and peanut oil. Why that is? I cannot answer. But the smell is for sure, a remarkable feature that is impossible to miss by any regard. Unfortunately, I did not capture photos of the entire meal to accompany every aspect of this review, but I did get the highlights! The Spring Rolls - The depressing spring roll that they provided, were lacking in every department. A tootsie roll sized white empty thing. Little cabbage, little carrots, but lots and lots of disappointment. I must say, the local Liberty Gas Station egg rolls, would beat this "Authentic" Chinese in any regard. ---------------------------------- As you can see, looking at this track record . . you can imagine how the rest of our meal looked, smelled, and tasted. A depressing, gray-colored, ingredient-less, horrid smelling, meal is the only way I can describe the endeavor we faced. In the well renowned story of Dante's Inferno, he speaks of nine hell's. There should have been ten. For the last and the worst, should be awarded to the Jin Zhou Garden. If you venture here, I pray for you. read more

I Live right down the road from this wonderful place, I walk here at least 2 to 3 times a month never know what to get because everything I ever ordered was very satisfying, Been going here since they opened up watched as their kids grew up and was worried for them when the pandemic hit, I mentioned missing the metal chopsticks I use to have one time I went there and the next time she surprised me with a set, I recommend the BBQ Boneless Spare Ribs or House Special Fried Rice. Service is Quick and Very Friendly. The Place was nice on the ears and eyes with fish tanks and netflix/tv or music playing before the pandemic made it more of a carry out service. They treat me like Family. read more

Found myself a new Chinese take-out place in Winchester. They were very prompt in delivery, only got the food within 15-20 minutes of ordering which for Chinese is pretty good. The prices were also fair too for the portions I received. I ordered the Seafood Noodle and Shrimp Dumpling Noodle soup with Mei Fun noodles, as well as a small Lo Mein and an Egg Roll (for good measure). All of it was pretty good. The soup was very generous in portion size and the dumplings were very tasty and good themselves. The Lo Mein was not greasy and all tasted the way I remember chinese food back up in New York/New Jersey tasted like. My only complaint is that the food was a bit too onion-y, and that some of the broth leaves a weird pre-taste, but only for a split second. After that, you'll be in eternal bliss with how much noodles and meat they give you. It's all worth it. read more

Disappointed after seeing all the good reviews. It wasn't the worst Chinese I have ever had, but close. I'm not the pickiest of people, but this food was not great. Egg rolls would have been better if I bought store bought and microwaved them. No flavor, and not great texture. Ordered Kung Pao beef. And it was 90% celery. It had an ok flavor but nothing special. And would have been nice to have more than 3 bites of beef (seriously there was very little meat) Egg drop soup was typical cheap Chinese soup. Nothing special but no complaints. Also got another rice noodle dish and it was completely tasteless. Soy sauce made it edible. Delivery took close to an hour for 1.2 miles from restaurant. read more

I don't understand the negativity here... I order to-go from Zin Zhou Gardens once a week. I call and the owner knows my order the moment she hears my voice. They're so nice and attentive to their customers. The house/shrimp Mei fun is always spectacular and fresh. The crag rangoon is a must! I haven't branched out to other entrees yet because the mei fun is soooo good! I highly recommend this establishment to everyone! Definitely a diamond in the rough! read more

Yeah the place inside is a little dark and dated but the food makes up for the lack of ambience. Thought the egg rolls were pretty good, although they should make their own mustard sauce instead of just handing you packets. The water was the typical chlorine taste so a water filter for customer water would help. IMO the food was pretty flavorful. Their soups are also very good. I thought the dishes had a good amount of meat. The portion size was decent and had to take food home because couldn't finish it all. I would definitely be back, probably for takeout. read more

I'm a contractor who's spending the next six months in town and decided to try out the Chinese restaurant down the street. Boy was I disappointed. The place is clean as mentioned in another review; but there was no one else inside at 6:30 pm. The hostess seemed too busy managing her children, and her teenage son lumbered over to slap food and the bill on the table. Never was a refill of Diet Coke offered -- I guess because there were more pressing concerns online (visible staff were glued to their cell phones). The food was as inspired as the staff. I suggest you look elsewhere for Chinese food in Winchester. read more

Cheap take out, don't have a clue where these N.Y.folks have been diving..... Grandma tried the fried rice, ugh, color of coffee. Big egg roll, Hot & Sour soup O.K. but very gelatinous, full of red flakes, must find the truth of my idea that white pepper should make the hot, no pork shreds, great silken tofu. Grandma got shrimp and broccoli; limp, no onions ?? Oyster sauce gelled on the plate, go figure. My "Kung Pao" chix was diced in tiny cubes w celery and carrots. Impossible to eat with sticks. No peppers, onions, scallions; no CHILIS fer crying out loud ----- what is this? Something with raw peanuts on top, Ghastly!!!! The rice was tired and slippery, not "steamed" at all; hate to eat with a fork...... Only the Oolong tea saved the day. read more

Winchester doesn't have a lot of Chinese food so the standard is fairly low, but this was a strictly average meal, some highlights, some duds. We went to the restaurant on a Wed evening about dinner time. We were the only people there (aside from a few assorted kids belonging to the owner). It appears the kids are de facto wait staff, backed up by mom. The menu has a fair variety of dishes (Mandarin and Cantonese), with the usual American Chinese faves. I ordered my standard test dish (kung pao chicken), hot and sour soup and eggrolls. She Who Must Be Obeyed had cashew chicken and a different eggroll variation (there are several). Orders were taken quickly, and food arrived about 15 minutes later. The hot and sour soup was fairly good, but a bit thin, so the overall effect was fairly watery. Lots of mushrooms and chicken, though. Eggrolls (both varieties) were fairly tame, not greasy, but slightly cold, as if they were cooked sequentially. Kung pao was fairly tame (minimally spiced) but I see in other reviews that they're willing to adjust if needed. The first visit I always take as it comes to test what the default is. I would have appreciated some hot pepper pieces, but it was just the standard flakes. Good balance of meat and vegetables (lots of celery!). Cashew chicken was fairly tasty; good mix of veggies and sauce. White rice was supplied, a goodly amount so we didn't have problems running out. They included a nice almond cookie gratis; a nice touch. Overall, nothing to complain about, but it wasn't spectacular either. It's an older place, clearly. The dining room has seen use, and it's fairly dimly lit, so it tends to seem a bit dingy. A lighting upgrade would do a lot for it. There was a steady stream of takeout and delivery going out, so it appears that the demand is there; can't comment on delivery time, etc. I'd give them a B for effort; of the 3 or 4 Chinese places in town, it holds up pretty well. A remodel would do a lot for them. read more

The menu and food is typical of all the Americanized Chinese restaurants in the Winchester area. Their pan-fried dumplings, however, are better than all the others that I have tried. The dough (wrapper) is thin and tender, as it should be; and the meat filling is tasty. They have lunch specials until 3:00 , I believe. The negative reviews are spot on. I ordered the veggie lomein spicy, and I got bland noodles with two or three pieces of broccoli. The same amount of sliced mushrooms. The veggies it appears are on strike! The Gen. Tso's shrimp was fishy, threw it out. Such a disappointment. The place is close to my house, and looks really clean inside, but it's just cheap and poor quality. I wasted $20, and now instead, I'm cooking dinner for myself tonight. read more

From the outside, this place is no great shakes. But inside this drab little building is a caring kitchen cranking out very fresh, very flavorful food! The Steamed Dumpling appetizers were ample (8 large servings), well stuffed and perfectly steamed. My dining partner found the Hot & Sour Soup well seasoned and just spicy enough (he likes it SPICY!). Main dishes included a perfectly spiced General Tso's Chicken -- again, very well prepared. I had East Noodle Shrimp Soup, with egg noodles, and could not finish the bowl. It went home with me. Our check arrived with gratis almond cookies (and the usual fortune cookies), a nice touch. This may have been the absolute worst Chinese food I have ever attempted to consume. I also got a couple of the chefs specialties. It literally was inedible and I can eat just about anything. Pretty good food, served fairly fast. I usually order to go meals for lunch as I live a couple miles away. I've had better, but their's is fairly tasty. Only one bad experience with watery Hot & Sour soup one time. I like the Hunan Beef as it has lots of good crunchy vegetables like broccoli to go with good lean strips of beef. Hunan Chicken is good too. The Kung Pao dishes are good, very meaty but few veggies. My daughter likes their sweet & sour chicken. I have not been there for dinner. I depend on Chinese food to get vegetables into my diet LOL. read more

Very solid Chinese food (American style). They're not afraid to make something "extra extra spicy" if you ask for it. Prices are very reasonable. Friendly service. Nothing that particularly stands out. Everything is average or slightly above average. With low prices and friendly service, I'm rounding up for value. read more

This was my go take out place recently. The food is always ready so quickly and the quantity is fantastic. Prices are great too. I'm giving it 3 stars because the restaurant owners always have their 2 small children in the restaurant. I have been here many times, and no adult has actually ever greeted me when I walk in. The child will see me, or anyone else who walks in, and will walk into the kitchen to get someone. Last time I walked in, the maybe 6 year old child in a teddy bear sweatshirt proceeded to try and take my credit card to process it! This is ridiculous! Told me "It's ok. My mom taught me how to do it." No young one, as sweet as he was, I wanted an adult to process my payment.... And make sure there was even an adult present! Finally, a woman came out, said "sorry," rushed me, and then back into the kitchen she ran. Very strange and not professional. Since then, I haven't gone back. read more

Hands down this is the best Chinese restaurant in Winchester!! Finally a place that doesn't make you feel super bloated and full, only to be starving an hour later. Everything is super fresh, portions are awesome. Where else can you pay $5.25 for lunch and take some home for later? I love that they don't charge extra for fried rice and throw in a little extra if you order a certain amount. Delivery is limited to close locations, but is super fast! Everything we have tried has been excellent. My only "complaint" would be that it would be nice to be able to have a beer or glass of wine sometime, they serve no alcohol. read more

It was good. Greeted at the door and was told we can sit wherever. Two young kids took our drink order and brought noodles. I had the chicken and broccoli with fried rice. It was not totally hot but it was good. It came out quickly. The service was good. The staff was friendly. The price right. I would recommend coming here. read more

This place was a complete surprise to me. From the outside I wouldn't have expected the quality of food and cleanliness of the inside that I found. The immediate look of the place screams "cookie cutter". However the food is anything but run of the mill. The dishes had a "home cooked" flavor that caught me off guard. Most other Chinese places have that artificial flavor, but the flavors here were fresh and bright. I had the Pork Egg Foo Young. It was fantastic. My wife's beef and broccoli was flavorful and tender. We'll be back. read more
