I will start by saying, and I guess this will form the majority of my review, but this place was really hard to judge. For those who have been to Burger Lounge in Eltham, it had a similar feel right from checking it out on the website, and all the way to ordering my burger. And, yes, they are in a similar area, (and I know this doesn't apply to everyone) but I really enjoyed driving AWAY from the city to find a good burger in a much quieter part of town - it really gives an adventure type of feel. It was reasonable cost wise, and my request to double up on the beef (as I was slightly surprised there wasn't a double patty burger) for $2 made me happy. The $2 side of chips would've been worth $8 too at Grill'd, which was another tick. The burger itself whilst still being enjoyable was missing something small - maybe a special sauce or something of the like! Turkish buns were used too, and I haven't had too many amazing burgers with them unfortunately. So ideally I'd love to give it 3.5 stars, as the experience itself is rather enjoyable (I can't stress this enough), however the burger itself was good without being amazing.

Having been twice, I'm still a bit sceptical about this place; at a crossroads, like Britney Spears…read morein 2002. The first time I visited (within the first few days of opening), I ordered the meatball sub, but I felt as if the bread was a little too dense, and the meatballs, surprisingly bland. The fries were also on the salty side, but they sell lemon lime bitters, so that basically cures everything. The second time was a stronger experience, I had the lamb, but again the bread a bit too dense, in a way that the crust and the bread itself kind of blended together so you didn't quite get that great crusty outside and fluffy inside that perfect bread rolls tend to be like. So the lamb sub was very messy, but the flavours were good, yet the fries remained on the salty side. They do a great deal with half a sub, fries and a drink for around $11 from memory, and they've marketed really well, and overall I love their concept. With just a few tweaks I really feel as if they could be great, a slight change in the bread, a little more (or less) seasoning here and there and they could really hit elite status. But for now, they're just a solid sub-style sandwich store with a bit of marketing flair, hopefully they'll grow to be much more in the future.

So far, the only burger that can make a contest out of Beatbox is Fergburger from Fergburger, Queenstown. Anyway, coming back to Beatbox, Thursday night has got to be up there in terms of the highlight of my week. There's literally a spring in my step after work, knowing that Beatbox's gonna be outside my apartment from 6pm. Can you think of anything that can top a beer from Mr Wilkinson and a juicy Ralph? I certainly can't. The only downside I can think of is the inexistence of seating due to Beatbox being a meals on wheels deal although Mr Wilkinson allows you to sit inside provided you buy a drink of course so overall a good deal.

If you don't see the van first upon pulling up at the location, which you'd have to be a bit blind to miss seeing that it's a van-sized beatbox stereo, you'll see half the neighbourhood lazing around on the grass with bottles of beer and wine waiting for their burger order. The other half of the neighbourhood make up the very long queue leading up to the Beatbox van. What is everyone queueing up for, they're just burgers? Well, they're not JUST burgers. The grass-fed beef burger is the best $11 you'll ever spend on a meat burger, and likewise with the 'shroom burger for $10. There aren't any fancy fillings, just the usual cheese, tomato, cos lettuce, onion and stereo sauce - simple and perfectly balanced to showcase the fine quality and excellent flavour of the beef/portobello mushroom. The fries at $5 a serve with a range of sauces (mayo, tomato or spicy tomato relish or stereo sauce) are crispy and fresh. The only downside is the long, long, long queue and up to an hour wait for your burger, but come expecting the long wait - bring friends and drinks - and it's actually a really pleasant wait. I still give it 5 stars based solely on the quality and flavour of the burgers. Stay up-to-date with the Beatbox's whereabouts by following them on Twitter. They also tweet as soon as the burgers run out (usually by 8.30pm), so you'll know when to give up on the dream and find something else to eat until the following Friday.
