I don't get the hype over this place... It seems like a decent enough tex-mex restaurant that may be somewhat larger than others in the area. Other than that, it's basically Gringo's with a slightly better menu and better landscaping. Service is pretty good and it seems that even on the busy Friday and Saturday nights, their staff is well suited to deal with the crowds. They do excellent work in keeping customers up and informed on their meals. One knock I would have though is that while most restaurants don't necessarly strictly enforce the closing time on a given night, these people stick to it. On my visit the party I was with stepped out near the waterfall/firepit area to chat for a bit but decided to go back for the free ice cream cones. Not two minutes later, that door was locked and a waitress opened the door for us. She rolled her eyes of course, but it's not like there weren't others still dining in there. Anyway, all things considered it's a good restaurant. My wife and I usually like to eat here when we can. I really don't care for their food so I usually only get the Mexico Style soup. We went today and it was the worse. I couldn't finish mine and I only had a cup. The soup taste horrible, don't know what happened to the soup but it was really mushy and didn't taste good at all. This was the last straw for me. Like I said I really don't care for the food and the soup was the only reason I still come here to eat. Well goodbye Jimmy Changas, you have lost my business. My children like the food as well and they bring their families with them but we will not be having any family gatherings here anymore, at least not when I'm asked. Really sad because the soup use to be the best in town. Oh well changes are not always good. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. We ate in a group of 7 on a Sunday. I was wondering what was going to make this restaurant stand out from other Tex Mex places. It turns out that it is a good place for families to dine. A friend of ours asked the waiter to bring out some dough for the kids to play with and I thought that was great. The salsa was mild but flavorful and the salsa verde was right on. I ordered the combo fajitas and they were pretty damn good. The rice and beans were good. It also came with pico guacamole and sour cream as well as 3 tortillas of your choice. I thought the place was really clean and it even had a play ground. Overall you will get a good meal here with pretty good service. I do want to point out that I do believe that they are affiliated with Gringos restaurants. Pretty good place for the family. Great outdoor seating by the playground for those who have children. The service is good and quick. The food is pretty good and they don't do the add prices like any different places. I have the veracruz which was fajitas and shrimp diablo. Can't go wrong with bacon and cheese. The rice and beans were standard. I didn't try the flour tortillas but the corn tortillas were really good, thin, and fresh. A sea of servers and it took 5 mins to get seated no host was standing at the desk. Great service from that point on. I didn't have to ask for refills on my drinks or on my chip platter. I don't know what this build your own guacamole is but I ordered just standard guacamole and it came on a lettuce bed so it is deceiving how much you're actually receiving. The atmosphere is Very family friendly. Food is good. (Consistently) The prices are reasonable considering the place is nice n the food is consistently decent. Every time I ordered shrimp wrapped with bacon the shrimp was spoiled, will not return. If you go there stay away from the shrimp.

My wife and I go here often. The other day we were with our 1 year old son after we went to the zoo. He was tired and fussy. Not to mention our food was taking longer than normal. One of the managers, Nick, came over and asked if we needed anything. I jokingly said "a babysitter" and he laughed and said "I think I might have something." He came back over with a sticker sheet for our son and it kept him occupied for a bit. When he started getting fussy again, without prompt Nick brought over 3 tortillas wrapped in foil to give to our son. He went above and beyond for us and we really appreciate it. UPDATE: I sent them an email last night telling them about my order, was very nice about it because things happen in life, I woke up this morning to two voice-mails from the manager and one from head of operations. Super nice people and completely understood our complaint and made things right. We weren't looking for a free handout and let them know we don't expect anything out of this but he insisted on sending us something in the mail and even offered to bring it to our home. I am very impressed with their customer service. I have never called in to complain about anything, anywhere but being we have spent quite a bit of money there, I thought they should know. Thank you, Jimmy Changas! Just picked up my Togo order and it is literally ice cold and I live right down the street from them! I am very disappointed as I've never had this problem. Good place for some tex-mex. They have pretty decent homemade tortillas and if you like pulled pork quesadillas, they are particularly good here. The guac here is very flavorful and worth getting as an appetizer versus most places. Fajitas come out with a nice char on them and you have free self-serve ice cream upon leaving (or waiting). Beef & Chicken fajitas smothered in a white wine cream sauce with shimp and crawfish tails. Let's not forget the Shrimp Brochettes that come with the dish. If you are not in for a huge dish as El Capitan, but you are wanting the Cajun meets Tex-Mex, you can try the Seafood Enchiladas. They are just as great. Management takes an A+ from me. read more

We got carryout, so my review is pretty much strictly for the food, not for service or ambience, although the restaurant looked VERY clean and inviting. Definitely better Tex-Mex than Gringos, or any other nearby chain restaurant. My husband ordered the Jimmy Changa (rotisserie-style chicken with an avocado ranch sauce on top and queso for dipping), and I ordered the Juanita platter, which was a chicken enchilada in cream sauce, two chicken taquitos, and a queso chip (which was smothered in lettuce, chicken, some refried beans, and more queso.) All in all, a lot of food for the money, and even after a ten-minute drive home, the food was quite delicious. The guacamole appetizer was delicious as well - much better guac than Gringos. My daughter's drink got thrown away before she was done. She was hot and sweaty from playing and really wanted her drink. I asked the waiter for another drink and he must of forgot so I went to the to go area and asked for a drink for her and the bartender said he would get it then we waited for 5 more minutes for the drink and the bartender didn't get it. then we asked the to go counter lady for a drink and explained my daughter's go thrown away and she said she would get it then she didn't. Something is majorly wrong here that no one will get a child the drink that was thrown away. The to go person said "we all have different jobs so no one wants to get it." Horrible pathetic service. First time terrible service. Brianna took our order & didn't come back to check on us at all. Finally had to ask someone to find our waitress so we could have refills. Service is important to me. Anyway, she brought food & never came back. Asked for our bill once I did that she got busy trying to be nice @ that point. A little too late didn't even get a refill on my drink that stayed empty. One basket of chips. When I finally got her & asked for a refill she started to leave I told her wait a minute everyone would like refills. She should have looked at empty glasses, but didn't. Jimmy Changa's has long been a great restaurant here in Pasadena, unfortunately a few changes they have made recently are not for the better. The bar seating is no longer first come, first serve: if I am going to wait for a table, I have absolutely no inclination to sit in tall tables near the bar.
