I went to Jimmies Cupcakes the last two night markets. My first visit I got a chocolate cupcake with peanut butter icing and a drizzle of caramel (as per the owner's suggestion). It was excellent! The chocolate cake was moist and rich. The icing was light, fluffy, and had the perfect peanut butter flavor. The caramel/ peanut butter combination was out of this world! My second visit, my sister and I decided to order two and split them. We got the Jimmy Brookie and the James Brown. The Brookie was a cookie/brownie base with peanut butter icing. I felt like it was mainly brownie. The brownie was a little hard and tough. I would have liked it to be chewier. The peanut butter icing was the same great icing I have experienced the first time. The James Brown was a black Russian chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream and a vodka/Kahlua glaze. The cake was moist and rich. The buttercream was sweet (a tad too sweet) and light. The glaze made the cake extremely sticky. I also didn't really taste the Kahlua promised. Overall, I felt like it was just a really sticky chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream. These are good quality cupcakes, but some flavors don't pack the promised punch of flavor. read more

Jimmies made a stop at the Night Market on Thursday. After filling my stomach with tacos and sausage, a dessert was needed to cap off the night. My friend and I walked around perusing the dessert options when we happened upon Jimmies' pink and green striped truck. The draw was homemade ice cream sandwiches. I got chocolate chip cookies with vanilla, and my friend got sugar cookies with strawberry. It was a delicious treat. My only critique is that the ice cream could be a little softer, but I guess that's just a personal preference. Unfortunately, it looks like the mostly hang out in the suburbs, but if you come across them, definitely worth a stop. read more

It was way too hot to cupcakes last night at the Night Market. Though I did get a fingerful of my friend's chocolate icing (tasted so homemade, JUST like my mom's!) I opted for an ice cream sandwich just as the clouds started looking ominous- approximately 8 minutes before torrential downpour. Ah, Jimmies, what has happened to you? A year ago, I would have said these were the best cupcakes I've ever had. They were often served warm, were moist and delicious, and some even bursting with fillings. I would wait an hour for those cupcakes, and would drive all over in search of the truck. Unfortunately, my recent visits to Jimmies have been disappointing. The fresh, warm cupcakes are gone, replaced with cakes that taste stale and dry and don't hold up for long. At the last nightmarket in Old CIty, I purchased a dozen for $18 (steep), and in the end felt it was sort of a waste - we ended up throwing a couple away. Sadly, I think its time to search for a new cupcake truck go-to. read more

Every time I encounter a cupcakery, I am struck with aporia; what flavor do I choose? With Jimmies minis, I can have 'em all! The striped truck featured prominently into the West Philly Thursday dollar stroll, with several hipsters favoring the Jimi Hendrix cake (all the flavors are named after famous Jimmies). I ordered a four pack for $3.50-what a deal! The buttercream icing is pretty standard fair, but the vanilla cake was noteworthy; not too sweet and just the right amount of fluffiness. Surprisingly, my favorite was the Butterscotch "Jimpet" with caramel goodness drizzled over the icing! I can't wait till they come up with a Jim Belushi! read more

Having had Jimmie's cupcakes at the Night market in Chinatown, Pa.Why did I think i wrote review already??!! Ok..on my perpetual search for the Yummiest Cupcake, I found this at the Street Festival in Chinatown, Pa. I was Soo excited, think I got the Jimmy Stewart, coconut cupcake.. They were the regular size which were $2.00 ..it was Pretty good, taste the coconut , but the cake itself needed to be more moist!! But All-in-all quite yummy. The van was painted in assorted colors, & the guy was quite personable . I think they refrigerated them -might be why it lost moistness. Hope they fix that!!! Hoping to see them again, try other flavors..So as I keep searching for the Cupcake that is "Just Right" ..keep hope alive. read more

Had the pleasure of inhaling a "James Bond" (red velvet,) and a new peach cupcake at the food truck event in Brewerytown the other night. And I do mean inhaling. These things were spectacular. This past weekend my wife and I hosted a party of about 70 people. We searched high and low for great cupcakes at a reasonable price. After trying several bakeries, cupcake shops and trucks (hard work, believe me) we found Jimmies Cupcake Co. Kristen came to our home on Saturday evening and parked her cool as hell cupcake truck in our driveway, and served up the four flavors we choose. If you ever need to clear 70 people out of your house in under 30 seconds, have Kristen park her truck in your driveway! Her cupcakes are nothing short of fantastic. they are large, moist, rich flavors, the icing to cake ratio is perfect. Another reason her cupcakes are so fantastic is the icing; creamy and not overly sweet. Its obvious only fresh ingredients are used. All of our guests loved them! Kristen is an absolute sweetheart to work with, and excellent baker and great at making up cupcake names! You will not be disappointed! read more

Most awesome!! Stopped at Jimmies during Night Market in Chinatown, so glad I did. I have a secret love affair with cupcakes and Jimmies certainly fulfilled it. Ahh, my not so secret love affair with cupcakes deepens with my experience at Jimmies Cupcake truck. Stopping at one? I would LOVE to see you try my darling. The day I came upon this truck I was all about some cupcakes and they had a pretty amazing variety. I was torn but not for long. I started at their James Bond (red velvet) cupcake and was immersed in a moist and creamy cupcake heaven. Just the right amount of sweetness for the frosting and the cupcakes were not too dense and not too light. It was perfection. I took out the cookies and cream cupcake next. The little Oreo cookies in the cupcake batter...genius. The frosting tasted JUST like Oreo filling and I was taken back to my childhood. I finished off with a menue special - apple cake cupcake. It was buttery, cinnomon-y (what?) and all the things that taste like Fall. Hallelujah! My only regret that day was that I could not eat any more. read more

I've only gotten to try one of their cupcakes (the James Bond red velvet--I tend to judge cupcake places based on their Red Velvet, since everyone has their own version.) The cupcake flavors are all named after people with J names, which I think could get confusing real fast! They were at a pop-up truck event at City Hall, but I don't know where they usually hang out. The cake was definitely moister than some other cupcakes I've had. The icing was just OK, and the presentation was nothing spectacular. But hey, it's a good cupcake, and that's all I needed right then. Hopefully, they'll be back in Center City sometime soon so I can try a different flavor and see if I like it better. read more

Disappointed in the cupcake I purchased at flight market. The presentation was great, but after taking one bite I threw the smores cupcake away. The cake part tasted off and dry, the frosting lacked flavor. It is so hard to find good cupcakes in Philly. I find I am always so disappointed in the quality. read more

My company got this cupcakes for a recent anniversary. I was very excited but was a little let down. I like my cake flavorful and moist and found the bottom of these cupcakes to be a bit lacking in that area. The tops were AMAZING though. Bought several of their cupcakes today at a festival and was very disappointed. Besides the outrageous pricing (6 cupcakes for $18...for that amount they better have been made of gold), the cake itself was dry, bitter, and hard. Will not be trying these again..shame since I read some of the reviews from several years ago and it seemed that Jimmies was pretty delicious at one point. read more

I went to their food truck at a festival, and was absolutely disgusted by the cupcakes we got. I got the "Jimmy Rolo" and the "James Bond" cupcake. The "Jimmy Rolo" cupcake was supposed to be a chocolate cupcake with caramel frosting. It tasted okay at first, and then quickly got worse with every bite. The chocolate cake was extremely dry, little chocolate flavor, and was bitter. It lacked any sweetness at all. The caramel frosting was good at first, and then it became apparent that it was way too sweet. And I love sweet things. As for the "James Bond" cupcake, the first bite made it very obvious that it was not well baked. Again, it was a dry cake, with no sweetness. And the frosting was something that somewhat represented cream cheese frosting, but just tasted like an overly sweet icing. The only thing that was tolerable was the candy heart on top that literally did not have any flavor. In other words, the cupcakes were "bleh." For such low quality, the $3.50 price was pretty high. They should not call these horrible, barely edible pastries "gourmet". Do not go here if you value your taste buds at all! read more
