There are so many trails that one can cover in a relatively short amount of time. Trail information can be obtained through a pamphlet provided at the park. There's a playground, facilities, and picnic areas. The information pamphlet also provides a short history of how the land became a park. Very cool and beautiful place. If you're looking for a traditional karate dojo, this is the place to go in Bellingham. No mixed…read moremartial arts, no upselling expensive packages or "karate birthday parties": just real, formal karate in the shito-ryu style. Be prepared to work hard on the basics rather than advance quickly through the ranks... this is not a McDojo-style outfit. General classes include: warmups (with lots of stretching and core strengthening); standing basics; moving basics; kata; partner drills; and sparring (several forms). Classes are offered three days a week: Tuesday evening; Thursday evening; and Saturday morning. Additional seminars are occasionally offered so advanced students can focus on their work. This means that beginning students get a lot of attention from Sensei and senior students, rather than the focus being on advanced practitioners' work. There isn't a lot of safety gear used (just fistpads and mouthguards), so you'll learn how to take targeted punches in a relatively safe environment. Younger students (12 or so and under) need to have a parent willing to train with them; they're expected to develop the same discipline as adult students. This curriculum has been excellent for developing discipline and self-control in my son and me. There are several families that train together here. Sensei Bellingar is an excellent instructor. He maintains the rigor of this martial art while at the same time understanding the individual needs of each practitioner. He pushes each student to deliver his or her best, but without berating anyone or comparing us to each other--which is as it should be, because each person's abilities and challenges are unique. I'm a female practitioner and really appreciate that I'm held to the same high standard as the men I train with. Stepping onto the dojo floor transports students into a culture very different from the mainstream culture, which offers a much-needed contrast. The focus is on our work, not on our egos... and many of the lessons learned in the dojo are valuable in other aspects of our daily lives. Traditional Karate of Bellingham is a great place to discover one's true mettle and to develop one's best qualities.

I LOVE the spin classes--they're super fun, we even sing along to the music, and it keeps you motivated the whole time. The red light therapy is also an awesome bonus. I started a 12-week health journey with Jackie on January 12th, and it's been an incredible experience. I feel stronger and more consistent than I have in a long time--and my journey isn't over just because the 12 weeks is almost up. It's the only gym I've ever stuck with this long. It's not just a gym, it's a community. Highly recommend!

There was no designated parking lot for the park, so I went with street parking on one of the streets bordering the park. It was a windy and chilly autumn day with the orange leaves and green grass contributing to an overall magical feel. In the time I spent strolling around the park I was the only one about and about on foot. A large grassy area was encircled by a paved path with trees closer to the edges of the park. Benches speckled along the paved walkway provided places to sit. A cluster of amenities abutted a tree-covered hill with small trail system. Included was a covered picnic table area, a playground, and a swing set with swings both for the young kiddos and more adult size. It was a pleasant place to go for a stroll.

I paid the owner cash up front for three months membership, I showed him my drivers license and signed a list of basic rules and regulations. Standard procedure. The times I go, I have seen many shady people around the property and handful of shady gym members as well. One day this week a guy came in after he sat in the parking lot for 30 min, after everyone left but me, he came in, he had on a heavy trench coat, a hat and dark sun glasses on a sunny day. We were alone in the gym, I left immediately. For the most part it has been an ok experience. Until I went recently and the owner was there. I waved a friendly hello, he looked at me like he saw a ghost. I was there about an hour. After the owner walked by me several times looking at me like he wanted me to leave, he finally walked up to me and asked me how I got in & what is my name. I reminded him that I paid him cash for a membership for three months. He asked me to step outside and re scan my key fob so he can make sure ... .... .... Which of course I did. He says ok ok and walks away quickly. I went to his office that he ran to and asked was everything ok, was my membership ok, he said yes it is showing he never turned around to acknowledge me. Rude! I left right away. He was very unfriendly. This is after a 20 something guy was in there obviously recording people working out on his phone and laughing.
