There are so many trails that one can cover in a relatively short amount of time. Trail information can be obtained through a pamphlet provided at the park. I was able to ride through a few trails and chose to walk others due to hills. As a new cyclist, I'd have hurt myself because it was an especially wet day. There's a playground, facilities, and picnic areas. The information pamphlet also provides a short history of how the land became a park. Very cool and beautiful place. I'll likely visit anytime I find myself in Lynden.

The one tree offers a bit of shade to people who want to stand or squat underneath, but it would be nice to have a bench underneath it! The park itself is nice, as it has a bit of a grassy area in which to play or run around. A small, cement pathway surrounds the park, allowing children with walking toys the opportunity to walk around it. It's small, so children are easily seen from any corner of the fenced in area. The play structure is fun, and gives opportunity for adventure, but slightly older toddlers can hurt themselves when trying to explore, as their heads can hit the slide top and cause tumbles down the stairs (not a wide enough space between the slide and the end of the topmost stair).

Soon after I moved to Bham there was a movement afoot in my old neighborhood. You see, the…read morecitizens of York were dismayed that - despite being the oldest neighborhood in town - we did not have our own park. So some smart cookie decided a rocky knoll near the freeway could be transformed into an urban park, and a few years later we were there for the grand opening potluck! Rock Hill Park isn't easy to find (which I think makes it kinda cool), but if you do you'll find a fun place to hang out and play with the kids. There's a playground, and a shady picnic area. Being right next to the interstate means it's not real quiet, but it's definitely the oasis it was intended to be for the York Neighborhood.

I startled a coven of ducks who were huddled together and they proceeded to flap their wings vigorously and take off almost vertically! I was happy to have this little encounter with wildlife....beats ridiculous growling traffic any time. The curved roads to get here are lined with young, small trees that have a crimson/gold fall color flourish inspite of their stature. The park itself is just basins, ponds and wetlands -- so how you might bake in the bare sun in mid August is your guess alone. I would wilt without simple tree shade. Saws were brought here about 100 years ago...and there went the complex forests (and shade) that had kept the ecosystem here in balance for centuries. I liked finding this park because it is a relief for the imagination, anytime you can get away from the rectilinear grid/open-air cages of brutalist, modern America. You can't fully escape that commodified world as the park is edged by the characterless, five-story cheap construction office blocks and warehouses that give the appearance of anyplace [from Florida to Texas to Minnesota....]. Far be it that the Pacific Northwest should retain any semblance of its unique native trees and ecology -- no settler would settle for that! The children's park seems quite fun and nearby are shelters with benches and tables for picnics. The restrooms were open and used by people who drove up. How nice to have publicly accessible facilities!

Baker Highway, turn right just before you reach the roundabout. This single lane road will lead you past the WHS Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, and then the road will turn rough with gravel. Keep going about 50 more yards, and on your left, you will find about 5 parking spots in front of a grassy field. Follow the trail sign and tree-lined path to the water where you will have spectacular views of snow-capped Mt. Baker. The Nooksack river will be flowing pretty fast all year long, but is more calm along the shoreline where you might consider dipping your toes during the summer. The cold river water will feel good on a hot day. Unfortunately, the beach is rocky, so bring some sturdy water shoes for navigating the plethora of pebbles and boulders. Leashed dogs are allowed here too, but I saw plenty running free on both sides of the shore. One dog kept charging and barking at me despite his owner's best efforts to recall and control him by voice. According to one park sign, you can fish here. I'm not sure if there are designated points. I didn't see any bathroom or picnic table facilities, so "go" before you arrive and bring your own blankets, towels and chairs if you plan on hanging out. The park is open from sunrise to sunset which is great for those wanting to photograph the natural beauty of this place.
