Definitely bring a spare lure; our first attempt, we had to cut the line as it got snagged on some rocks. Saw a lot of people on the beach, enjoying a picnic or even kayaking out to crab boxes in the evening. Beautiful park overall. Make sure you're sure-footed if you're going to climb the rocks.

The beach park section of Larrabee park is gorgeous. There's ample parking, then a decent that's…read moreabout a 45 second walk to a grassy lawn and a beautiful stage built in the early 1900s. There were people performing music on the stage and park goers enjoying on the grass. Just to the left of the stage there's a path to the beach. Another 2-3 minute descent brings you to a trail going left and right. The path to the left is a short trail to a rock you can sit on and climb down to get to the water. Further that way there's another beach. The path to the right leads to a nice beach with a great view and a shade tree. There were some bugs in the washed up kelp, but nothing too bothersome imho. We had a stand up paddleboard so we used the path on the right after the stage area. I would recommend anyone bringing gear down (scuba, kayaks, paddleboards) to use this beach. Larger crafts can use the boat ramp just north of this beach, and you can drive right up to that ramp (north of the stage and parking area). It was a beautiful park and a great place to picnic, enjoy the water, and view the sunset!

It makes you feel like you are in a deep forest (although you are very close from Barkley Boulevard). Recommended route: Start at Barkley Village, walk up to Big Rock Garden, turn around, and walk back down to Barkley Village. A round trip should take about an hour if you walk at a brisk pace. From Barkley Village, take Railroad Trail (the trail behind Barkley Haggen) toward Whatcom Falls. Right after the St Clair detention basin on your left, turn left onto Klipsun Trail uphill all way to Sylvan Street. The trail continues in a woods, splitting into different trails. Follow the signs for Big Rock Garden. Warming: There are several pretty steep staircases. It is very clean and well maintained with wooden picnic tables placed in interesting spots. Also has restroom facility and a large play area for sports and other activities. This wouldn't be the place I'd first recommend to out of towners. As usual, take rest breaks as needed and pace yourself. It's not a real tough trail but may be a challenge if you're just getting into exercising/walking a great distance. There's a nice parking area with a fair amount of space. I could see that this may get packed on a nice day. There's one portable toilet at the parking area. I didn't see a sign requiring Discovery Pass but went ahead and put it out anyhow. I've noticed that some areas I had assumed that I didn't need it had in fact required.

I was visiting friends and we stopped here for a walk on the boardwalk and visit to a small rock…read morebeach. Nice, dusty, trail lined with blackberry bushes and the occasional sweet pea vine. A few hundred feet from where we started there is a tee where you can continue on the sidewalk or head down to the boardwalk that is about 35' over the water. The boardwalk is nice and wide with a couple of points along the way to stop and drink in the view. The day of this visit was super warm, ~90 degrees, and it was a nice treat to walk down to the beach once the boardwalk hit earth again. There were shells and rocks to pick through, and overall the beach wasn't busy at all. When I say beach I mean like 40ft X 20ft of sand and rocks before the water. There is neat rock foundation that the ocean carved into that could be cool bouldering if there were more surface area available. The address says Bellingham, but there is this place called Fairhaven that existed 200 years ago but was enveloped into Bellingham over time. So, if you're asking for direction in the new Bellingham area mention Fairhaven to reduce confusion.

Pine and Cedar Lakes Trail is a solid kick in the pants with 1500 ft of elevation gain in 1.5…read moremiles. I spent two days camping at Pine Lake and saw one other person. Another bonus is that the hills mask the hum if I-5. There are plenty of boot tracks to explore along the North Shore. A very peaceful place with solitude in spades!

Great hike. I made it a loop and ended up at Falls Drive and walked along the main road back to the…read moretrailhead. I went alone and didn't encounter a single person in the 4-5 hours it took for me to do the loop. Not all maps show the trail that leads off so you can make the loop. You go to the south from an off shoot in between cedar and Pine lake. The trails at this point are very overgrown. There is more opportunities to go on trails but I stuck on the service roads for the most part. Lots of good lookout points over Lake Samish. The original hike to get to Pine and Cedar lake is very steep. Once you get past that point it is more rolling hills or flat. I highly recommend turning left and heading toward the overlook NW of Cedar lake. Great views of the San Juan's and on the other side you can see Baker. For the Lakes there is camping opportunities available (primitive). Also there are no toilets available. Swimming in the lakes might be possible but they look as if the water is stagnant and there is much muck. I'm only knocking it down because of the hill. The overgrown section isn't part of this trail but is a fun way to go if you want more mileage and to make a loop of it. Just be aware you will be walking back along the road and there is little to no shoulder at times so walk towards the oncoming traffic to step out of the way when they approach.

This was my third visit to Lummi Island, but my first visit to Sunset Beach on 10/22/20…read more Sunset Beach is located diagonal from The Willows Inn, well marked from the main road, with decent trail access to the beach, but not ADA for wheelchairs/walkers. I purposefully took a much earlier ferry to Lummi Island to guarantee time on the beach. No amenties like picnic benches, bathrooms, or BBQ/fire pits at this pocket beach. Well kept, no litter. Just you communing with nature. It was a sunny autumn day with a brisk wind. Beautiful views. Walked along the beach. Collected tiny rocks of interest. Chatted briefly with a guy mooring his small boat. Perched on a log soaking up the sun. Glorious.

Sunset Beach is very nice beach to enjoy the sunset on Lummi. You can clearly see both Orcas and…read moreSucia islands. It is a small beach and there are lots of signs on different entrances showing "private" so please make sure to use the access available to public. While at it you can also check out one of the finest restaurants in PNW called "Willow Inn" but you do need to make a reservation for dinner.
