We found this place by accident while on a different nature walk. It's gorgeous! The playground was beautiful, the grassy fields are perfectly maintained and the "watch tower" was such a great surprise! 100% will recommend this place to everyone I know! Hovander Homestead Park is an excellent public park in Ferndale. There's plenty of parking and much to do once on property. There's a playground, an old barn, a historic home, gardens, a lookout tower, and several farm animals like chickens and rabbits. Our toddler LOVED visiting this park and so did we! read more

Beautiful expansive park! Very picturesque! We had a quick early Friday evening visit, and it wasn't very populated. There are two play areas, one with slides and the other with a tire swing and digging toys. Loved the wild bunnies running around, as well as the domesticated ribbon winning ones, safe in their cages. read more

Wow what a find. This place is huge and great for walks, jogs, and biking. On the East side of the park, there is a garden, a lookout tower, and a small loop-trail around the bog. There is parking available. On the West side, there is a visitor's center, an animal farm, and a garden. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a place to escape the bustle of the city. read more

I came here the other day when it was warm and sunny. When I arrived I wasn't sure where to go so I just followed the closest gravel path. I walked by some cows and ducks and then it was just lots of trees and flowery bushes. I walked even further and soon I was on the banks of the Nooksack River. I continued on, going by the farmhouse and red barn. I was still on the gravel path and started to see a lot of bushes with ripe red berries and white morning glories along the way. I lost sight of the red barn so I decided to do a u-turn back to the farmhouse. If you love photography, you will love seeing the beautiful flowers surrounding the house. My favorites were the foxgloves and peonies. Not only were there flowers but there were also herbs and a vegetable garden. I really loved the garden dedicated to weeds, it was very educational. I had a lovely afternoon noon and I got in my 10,000 steps. I wish I had a dog because there is a wide open area for unleashed dogs to run around (if you leave that specified area the leash must go back on.) read more

What can't I say about this place. All great things of course. The park seems to have something for everyone. A walk on a wooden trail, surrounded by water and birds and an amazing view of the Mountains in Canada to Mt. Baker and the sisters. Maybe a picnic with the little ones and grandma? There's an abundance of space to move about without feeling like a Disneyland trip. You can easily feel like you have the place to yourself, yet not so alone you wonder if the place is even open. The park is very clean. Even the animals sparkle and seem to enjoy the view. The displays of old equipment are a photographers dream and my favorite? I love love the plant and flower garden. They have vegetables they donate and signs on every plant they grow to teach us all the importance of what makes the Pacific Northwest so amazing. One more thing Years ago when I first moved to the area, my mom invited me to see the traveling wall they displayed for the soldiers who perished in Vietnam. It was really one of the things I feel honored to experience in my life. I'm not sure if it comes every year, but if you see it's making an appearance, I suggest taking your teenagers to get a feel for something my parents or someone you love all had to face. It is tragic and sad, but, when I saw the wall and every name, I shed a tear for everyone of them and left feeling like my mom shared something about her growing up that I could have never had. My favorite park - EVER. Trails to walk, history to view and experience, vast and uncrowded open space. Plenty of room for your group or large family picnics as well as spots for couples or family quick meals. So much room here. And multiple specialty demonstration gardens maintained by Master Gardeners for your viewing and learning pleasure. A great park with lots of history. The walking paths are so nice and you can walk from the house to the fragrance garden and tenant lake. Lots of space to picnic. Playground is nice too and the house is fun to walk through when it is open. Just wish the restrooms had an upgrade and there were more. read more

I'm not from Ferndale at all. So maybe this is the most poppin place to go if you are! But it wasn't for us. There's an awesome walking trail around a grassy field but I wouldn't recommend it for a stroller walk because the part we walked was very gravel-y. There is a garden with pretty flowers and a cool looking old farmhouse. And a neat little scarecrow field too. The cows were fuckin awesome because they ran up to us as we were talking to them and did some loud "moo's" that just made my son's day!!! They had tons of areas to have picnics or barbecue with covered tables and some not. That part would be very nice if you lived around here- for parties, reunions, etc. The playground was alright. It was crowded when we went. My son likes to drag his [insert basically any body part, i.e. face, hands, probably mouth] on the slides as he goes down so I took a couple baby wipes and wiped them down before he went on them and they were SO nastyyyyyyy. Bugs and so much dirt and ew. But otherwise he had a good time there playing around. They have a little person play place and an older kid one too. Which is always nice. The animal areas REEKED as though they hadn't been cleaned for years. Years. We had goats and also bunnies too and their areas/cages never ever even got close to smelling that bad. There was poop everywhere. My son did definitely enjoy seeing the geese, chicken, bunnies, and goats, but their cages should probably be cleaned every once in a while....... Otherwise the barn doors were closed (probably normal) but we just wanted there to be some more to do here and there wasn't really! Not much really going on. I'd say if you had some kids older than 3 or 4 that have a longer attention span, it could be very fun. You could play, show them the old farm equipment, the flowers, and go for a walk. Or if you don't have kids at all it could be an enjoyable leisure walk too. All in all, just an okay "park". read more

As a child I visited this park all the time. It was one of my favorite parks to go to, because my dad would always take me and my brothers here, and get a burger afterwards. I truly do miss the weekend routine. It's a very vast park, has an awesome tower that you can reach the top of via stairs, and there's a cool park for children to play on. From when I used to go we were able to purchase some food for the animals there, and rhe highlight of our day was to feed the chickens. They would churp all over like crazy, and we thought that was rhe coolest thing ever. I also loved to sit on the tractors, I truly felt like a kid that lived in a farm, it was really nice to live my secret double life there. Overall it's a great park to visit with your family, well kept, beautiful scenery, cool animals, and a good spot for picnics/bbq's!! read more

I have not had the pleasure of enjoying the park amenities as much as the previous review, but I find the park just as enjoyable in the off season. A trail in the back of the park makes it an additional stop to rest and enjoy the farm. read more
