I don't live in Kansas City, I actually live in Los Angeles, however I needed to copy a Wink Haus key (which is rare in the US but common I think in Europe). In any case, I found Heart of America Locksmith through Yelp and Randy had posted a picture of a key blank that was similar to what I was looking for. I called and I asked if he could make a copy based on a photo which he said he wouldn't (in retrospect, copying a key from a photo is probably illegal now that I think about it). However, he did offer to look at the pictures of my key and see if he had a blank that matched which he could send to me. After I sent him photos of my key however, he determined that the blanks he had were similar but not the same and sent me a picture of what he had. He then gave me a suggestion for which blank I might be looking for though.

This guy absolutely saved us the other day. Went out to the car on a Sunday afternoon and we could…read morenot get the key to turn the ignition. Even worse, we tried pushing the car to move it and the wheel got locked in a terrible spot. We spent hours on the phone with AAA (they wouldn't tow it to a safer location unless we took it to a dealer/shop). All shops were closed so we couldn't call anyone to see if they'd take the car. We talked to numerous locksmiths who advertised 24 hour services, yet wouldn't come out that day. I don't blame someone for not wanting to work on a Sunday afternoon, but calling yourself a 24 hour locksmith is a bit disingenuous, eh? Not only that, but two other shops quoted twice what this guy quoted us, and still wouldn't come out that day. Sent in a message via yelp to PMJ locksmith and got a response within a minute (literally). Called them up and was told he would be out after his current job, gave me a fair estimate. True to his word he called me after his current job and was on his way. Fixed the car in absolute darkness with nothing more than a small flashlight to see. Stuck to his quote and fixed the car right up. Not only did he call when he said he'd call and show up when he said he would, he was very friendly on top of it. We gave him a 25% tip and I still think he deserved more than that. Can't recommend him enough.

I bought new parts for the mortise lock on my decorative door, and the guy at the counter was helpful. I installed them myself. Then I flew back to California, and the lock started acting up. My brother and my 94-year-old mother live in the house, and one of them got locked out. I called, explained that I had bought the parts there, and they sent a locksmith out to fix it around July 10. I paid $129. The lock seemed fine at first, but then it started freezing up at random. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn't. Since it wasn't failing every time, I waited until I was back in town to deal with it. When I called in October, I was told the July repair wasn't guaranteed. They wanted to charge me another $85 just to send someone out. I asked if they stood behind their work. They said, " Don't come out for free, and nothing is free. I said fine; I would pay. I just needed it fixed before I flew home on Friday. That's when he told me they would not touch that lock again and that I should find another locksmith. I was willing to pay. They still turned me away, even though an elderly woman lives behind that door. A friendly storefront is nice, but it means little if the company walks away when a repair doesn't hold. I won't be going back.
