A couple months ago, my friend Kim and I took an Intro to Hand Lettering class with Samantha at Steadfast Supply in DC. Oh that rush hour traffic and $20 parking was sooo worth it! Turns out, Samantha used to be a teacher, and it shows in the way she articulates the class. It was easy to follow her instructions, and she was very hands-on with showing examples. Plus we got a pretty decent set of tools and goodies to take home with us! Since, I've purchased some of her watercolor artwork to hang at home. I am such a fan! The artwork can be found on her website or in various shops in the area. And her classes are actually affordable! Next I want to take her Pointed Pen class!

She did apologize though but she wasn't willing to redo them since that would be a lot more time & money for her. I also didn't notice and point it out to her until 4 days later. I had typed up the list of guests and so she just wasn't careful when looking at the list and doing the calligraphy. I think she was rushing. The names were also not that hard - Michael was spelled Micheal and my best friend Catherine was written with a K (!?!). I would just recommend checking the spelling immediately before accepting the package. I have to say though - the calligraphy was really pretty and you get what you pay for. If I had paid more for a high end calligrapher they probably would have not misspelled as many people or at least would have redone them, but it would have cost a lot more, and I still got a pretty product. Also Sarah was right in that no one noticed, or at least they didn't say anything to me about the misspellings on my wedding day! So it bothered me initially but wasn't everything. Bottom Line: Sweet person, pretty calligraphy, not good at following directions to spell names correctly, and definitely won't correct any of her mistakes at least if you have already paid her.

I work in Falls Church, VA, so driving up to Bethesda after work was not easy. Each time, I had to leave work early in order to get to the store before they close. You would think if I had 2 coupons the store would allow me to make 2 transactions in one visit but they actually made me come in 2 days in a row bc the rules stated that one coupon could be used per visit. After purchasing the invitations, I realized that printing would be difficult. I returned to the store for a third visit to purchase their printing services for the invitations. My fiance and I sat down with the store employee and we wrote down exactly what we wanted on the invitation. You would think this would be simple and they would print out exactly what I wanted on the invitation. She informed me that I would be emailed a proof "next week" and the invitations would be ready shortly after. You would think that you would hear from them within 48 hours (business days of course). On Wednesday I still didn't hear from them. On Thursday, they emailed me a proof. I checked on my iphone for the design but didn't double check all the wording since we sat down with the store employee and wrote down exactly what we wanted on the invitation. We drove up to NY and I showed my in-laws and noticed that instead of printing out Saturday they had printed out Sunday. I was so confused because 04 August is a Saturday and I wrote down exactly what I wanted on the invitation. I ended up having to repay the amount for the invitations. On top of that, I ordered 40 invitations and since they made another mistake, I only got back 39. They did not apologize. If you're planning any special event, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM. They are not timely and they do not meet basic customer satisfaction like giving you back what you order. I am so glad that I ONLY ordered engagement party invitations from them & nothing more. From the first time I first went in their store, it took me a month to get the correct invitations. VERY UNHAPPY WITH THEM & WOULDN'T WANT ANYONE TO DEAL WITH WHAT I DID.

I came to HBP last summer with a rush order for wedding invitations that a friend designed but…read more(alas) didn't send the files until the invitations should have already been sent. Another friend recommended Julie Ahalt as the project manager she'd done lots of business printing contracts with. Julie was professional, accommodating, and realistic. She express-mailed paper samples to me, and gave me the estimates and timetables I needed to make decisions quickly. The staff was very professional and caught some errors, unasked, in my address list. The turnaround was rapid, though they definitely dotted their i's and crossed their t's in making sure I approved the proofs first. The quality was excellent - I'm a typography and paper nerd, and loved the results. The price was astonishingly good: two-color printing of 500 textured cardstock invitations, and three matching inserts (40 each, for different events) for just under $500, if memory serves. Didn't need 500 (the cost was nearly identical for 300, and it was still much cheaper than my fall-back option, Costco.com partner Wedding Paper Divas - at $3/invitation). Their press is actually out west of DC, and not in Alexandria, which only matters if it's a true rush job - and they bent over backwards to make it work with my difficult schedule. I can't say enough good things about them. Highly recommended.
