AVOID THIS PLACE!!!…read more On November 28th, 2025, I had my car towed to the Tuffy's on Dupont because it would not start (new battery), and from my multiple failed attempts to start, the clutch pedal had lost pressure. Below is everything that was quoted on my 2008 Honda Civic Si, with 130K miles. I want to note that the ignition knock sensor was accidentally broken by Tuffy, it was communicated to me, but somehow I got stuck with the bill for a new one ($55). Approved Scan codes - $160 Remove/Replace Starter & Ignition Knock sensor $765 Remove/Replace clutch master and slave cylinder & bleed clutch $956 Remove/Replace Axle seals $406 Remove/Replace Tie Rod & alignment $778 Valvoline Brake system flush $113 TOTAL - $3,079.67 Declined Remove/Replace Engine Mount $286 Remove/Replace Suspension Shock rear $436 Remove/Replace Valve cover gasket $258 Remove/Replace Clutch assembly $1,888 TOTAL - $2,869 When I picked up my car, it started, but something was off. Once the car warmed up the idle RPM's were inconsistent and the engine would vibrate horribly. The car also had trouble accelerating and the RPM's were twice as high as usual as I would put the car in neutral to come to a stop. Once in my garage, I noticed the smell of gas fumes and the exhaust was a dark color, and I had a leak. Under the hood, I noticed the intake manifold was dark and dirty on the far right side. The car struggled to start the next day. I took the car back to them and they quickly figured out that there was a gasket that wasn't installed properly and that some packaging had been left behind in the master or slave cylinder. Who knows what they actually did but all those issues did resolve, minus the rough start the leak. I took the car back a second time for the starting issue and nothing was really done, just suggestions of cleaning the throttle body, and making sure the spark plugs that I installed were properly gapped, which they were. This is when they started sticking to the phrase "if the starter is cranking, then it works". Didn't matter that this brand new NAPA Premium Plus Starter (2446993) sounded horrible as it struggled to crank. When I was leaving I noticed my check engine light came on, when it never had been before. They either forgot to reconnect a sensor or they disconnected something without knowing it, I let them know and they fixed it. A few days later I took my car to a family recommended mechanic. The first thing he noticed was that my flywheel looked to be taking damage, and that my axle seals were leaking. I took my car back to Tuffy's for a third time, and they confirmed the leaking axle seals, and claimed that they either mistakenly ordered the wrong ones, or that they were given the wrong ones. They fixed the axle seals and on the rough start they again gave me the line "if the starter is cranking, then it works", so they recommend the following. Remove/Replace Direct Fuel Pump Module Assembly $805 Adjust Valve Lash, Valve cover gasket, NGK High Ignitability Spark Plugs $697 I declined these services and I ordered a Honda Denso OEM fuel pump module assembly, and replaced it myself. After install, there was absolutely no change. The car's rough start issue remained. On February 21st, my clutch pedal had once again lost pressure, and so I brought the car back to them once again (4th time); thinking everything would be covered since they had done all the clutch work, but they quoted me the below. Remove/Replace Clutch Hydraulic line, 3/16 copper brake line, and brake fluid $209.45 I declined these services as well, and took the car back to the recommended mechanic and he said the issue was actually the slave cylinder. Dealing with Tuffy's was pointless, so I had him replace the slave cylinder (paid for the part and labor again) and I also had him go ahead and fully diagnose my starter issue at this point. The starter turned out to be faulty. Thank god the NAPA that Tuffy's had purchased it from was able to provide me with the lifetime warranty on it, and they gave me a new one. I had it installed with a NEW flywheel to ensure this didn't damage the new starter. After all this, my car starts up fine now; no clutch pedal issues. The only items that haven't gone bad that Tuffy's installed are the clutch master cylinder and the tie rod, but I have no confidence in them based on how everything else went.

My wife and I were coming into Fort Wayne from Angola on our way home to Texas, and just as we…read morejumped on to Interstate 65 on the north side of Fort Wayne, we realized that our vehicle was shuddering pretty bad. Just then, the Check Engine light came on and it was blinking, which means BAD! We took nearest exit ramp and limped off the interstate onto Illinois Road parking ourselves in F&M Bank parking lot (Shout out to the nice lady that came over to ask if she could help us!!). On Google Maps, we saw that an AutoZone was just across the interstate (1235 Magnavox Way). We called them up for advice, and after telling them of our predicament, the nice man on the other end of the phone told us that for our year/make/model, shuddering at acceleration could really only be one thing, a cylinder misfire, probably as a result of a bad ignition coil and/or spark plugs. He told us we could limp on over to the AutoZone, and they'd run an OBDII Scan on it to be sure, but he was 99% positive it wasn't nearly as bad as we thought. Upon arrival, they scanned the car and found that it was indeed a cylinder misfire. Being from far away, we asked where would be the best shop to take it to and they steered us toward the Belle Tire shop just across the street (7370 Illinois Rd). As out-of-towners, we would never have even tried that location, because we thought it was only a tire shop. Ends up they have a full service mechanic shop there as well! The gentlemen there at AutoZone were super helpful and even called up Belle Tire shop to make sure they could help us and get us back on the road quick. The Belle Tire folks told us that they were ready for us, so we fired that shaky engine back up and jiggled our way across the street. Those folks got us done quick! They had our vehicle in a bay in 20 minutes, then had it diagnosed, repaired, and back on the road within 2 hours. We broke down and parked at the bank at almost exactly 7 am. We drove out of the Belle Tire shop at almost exactly 10 am. From breakdown to road worthy in 3 hours. The Good Lord was watching out for us, making sure that ignition coil got us into the right place at the right time. Fort Wayne, from the F&M Bank lady to the guys at AutoZone to the crew at Belle Tire, you got a great bunch of people there!! The were eager to help. I listened to many stories on why a car had problems and what solutions they offered. All were done with respect and non pressure. There were about 10 tech jams working today. Plenty help help to process scheduled appointments and walk ins. Today in choose to make an appointment on line. It was easy to do. They seemed prepared to start my work by time the appointment time arrived. My day was costly than I planned. I feel like they were being honest about my issues. The cost seemed a lot but probably fair. The work took over 3.5 hours. On the down side...I noticed the all important sign going into the shop that required people to wear safety glasses. 9 of 12 people didn't wear safety glasses including 4 management/desk types.

Car handles beautifully. wheel is perfectly level. While in shop Mechanic gravity bled the brakes. Now the pedal is nice and firm again. My alignment was $149 and bleed was $40.50 (he supplied the fluid). The owner runs the shop, and his sister runs the office. They both impressed me as intelligent and pleasant people. They both thanked me more than once for my business. I'll return again.

Which would cost thousands of dollars, naturally. I went for a second opinion as the issues I was having didn't align with a bad transmission. Turns out it was just a sensor that needed replacing, costing only a few hundred dollars. Once the sensor was replaced by another shop the problems ended. I have been here multiple times through the years as they are the closest shop, but Everytime they asses the problem they are WAY off. I don't know if it's poorly trained mechanics or if they just assume anyone who isn't a professional in the auto industry is just completely clueless about vehicles. With the Internet being a thing and people being able to search up problems and be able to have a general idea what might be wrong with their car, you would think shops trying to intentionally scam customers would not longer be an issue. I'm not saying that's what happens there, it could be constant honest mistakes. Even when I took my car there for a simple oil change, problems arose. So I'm more willing to accept possible incompetence.
