On June 24, 2024 at 1:53pm, I received services provided by the Jiffy Lube location on State Route 125 in Amelia, Ohio to include an Engine Flush and the Signature Synthetic Oil Change. After the service was completed, I paid and went on my way. I was unaware that the technician had inadvertently mistook the drain plug of my transmission for the oil drain plug. My guess is they retightened the transmission plug and proceeded with the oil change as prescribed. Unbeknownst to them, transmission plug needs to be torqued to spec in order to remain tight and operational. On July 10, 2024 at 1:24pm I had a catastrophic transmission failure while on the highway with a Uber passenger in my vehicle. Thankfully, I was able to maneuver the vehicle safely to the side of the highway without any personal injury to myself or the passenger; or any damage to property. However, this does not dismiss the severity of this incident. The failure resulted in my being stranded on the highway, having to organize and work with Uber support in order to get my passenger safely to her destination, schedule a tow vehicle to get my vehicle off the side of the highway and to my regular mechanic. Upon inspection at my mechanic, they found the transmission drain plug had completely backed out of the transmission drain pan and onto the heat shield of my vehicle. The transmission was drained of 6 out of 7.71 quarts of transmission fluid and thus ceased operation of transferring power from the engine to the wheels. This resulted in a full day of lost earnings, the cost of towing, and cost of diagnosis/repair of my vehicle, in order to restore normal operation. I will be seeking reparations for the costs incurred and lost earnings for the day. Folks... this is the very reason you should never use these types of establishments. Update 07/15/24 - The district manager just informed me their cameras were down in that bay and they have no evidence they were at fault. Therefore are not going to meet my reparations. I made a visit to the new Jiffy Lube up the street because I was close and it was convenient. Normally I go to Valvoline and I've never had an issue there. But on this particular day, I pulled in a young girl came out and I she took my information. She asked me what I wanted. I explained I wanted a regular oil change. Just conventional, something I been doing for the past 2 1/2 years. She refused and said she suggested that I put synthetic oil in which of course was more than double the price of a conventional oil change. I said no I've always gotten conventional as long as I've had my vehicle. I don't need anything else I just want a regular oil change, she then refused. I actually thought she was joking. I understand that businesses are hard up for employees so a lot of these businesses are hiring young people. It's really truly unfortunate when you have a person who's representing your business not only lacks knowledge, but then wants to argue with you about what she thinks you need. I'm quite certain I have much more knowledge and experience than this young girl. I would suggest staying away from Jiffy Lube. Clearly they're out for the money and want to charge you more than getting good service provided. I went back up to Valvoline and had a great experience and they did everything for me. I got an oil change this morning at the Amelia Jiffy Lube. They showed me my cabin air filter and regular air filter which were both dirty stating they both needed to be replaced, but proceeded to give me ridiculous pricing for new ones, so I opted to buy them myself later. I went to the auto parts store on my way home, picked up the air filters and went home to change them, only to find that three out of four of my air filter screws under the hood were missing. I called them right away and they said they were already missing when I came in and that they noted it in their computer system, but did not tell me. First of all you can tell the screws were newly missing not 5000 miles ago at my last oil change, the metal is clean where they were. I went back to the auto parts store to get replacements, and the gentleman came out to make sure they were the right screws and proceeded to tell me that that not only are they missing but they are broke off, and the remaining screw is stripped. So now I will have to get someone to "back out" the broken screws just to put replacements in. Beyond frustrated and I will NOT EVER use Jiffy Lube again. read more
