PART 2 (SEE PART I UNDER…read moreREVIEWS FOR BIG-O ON JUAN TABO IN ALBUQUERQUE, NM) It is never adviseable to take one's car to the Big-O store on Menaul, unless they feel like having greedy, stupid, under-educated service advisors/mechanics destroy the car! A few days after receiving the rude and threatening phone call from Mark/"Mr. Cigarettes and Whiskey" at the Juan Tabo store, I called the Menaul store to see if they could do the A/C job and use the estimate from the Menaul store since they evaluated my car. I spoke to a service advisor named Chris. He was very nice on the phone. He said he would honor the A/C estimate from Mr. Cigarettes and Whiskey's Juan Tabo store. Chris scheduled the appointment for me the next day, and said he would be there to help me. Guess what? Chris called in sick the next day. I had made up my mind years of guessing how to have the work done, and was resolute the work be done that day!!! Very bad idea. The new service advisor, Hunter, was not privy to the arrangement I had with Chris. Hunter was a total scheister. Hunter said they had to do their own inspection - would not allow the one from Mr. Cigarrettes and Whiskey's store on Juan Tabo. (**To do an A/C job correctly, the the Condensor, Dryer, Compressor, etc., vacuum and recharge must be done at the same time). Hunter refused to allow the A/C kit that Chris and I agreed Big-O would use for my car. Hunter would not allow the replacement of the Condensor and Dryer: obviously because he thought I would ask to have them replaced after the their work was done, and he was going to charge $870.00!!! Hunter wanted to discuss the check engine light. I told him all about the P-0420 Catalytic Converter code and testing since January to make sure it wasn't something else. Hunter ignored the stack of hard copies I had in my hand from O'Reilly's of check engine scans; stated a bold-faced lie that it was NEVER a check engine light for the Catalytic Converter; that the Check E gine Light was for an Oil Pressure Sensor. I hsd never heard of that part, and there was never a problem with anything like that brought to my attention. Hunter swore if I replace the Oil Pressure Sensor that the check engine light would extinguish itself. Hunter was very sneaky; there was no discussion about price; Hunter got my signature to start work on the A/C Compressor. I told Hunter several times I was only interested in doing the work on the A/C that day. When I showed interest and began asking questions, Hunter had already typed $758.00 on the signed work order on the computer, and said, "It will be $758.00" and walked away as though it was all signed and done - but it was not: excuse me, we ere gettimg ready to talk prices!!! Twenty minutes later I told Hunter "Forget the Oil Pressure Sensor job because I have never had a check engine light for an Oil Pressure Sensor, and just do the A/C, please." Hunter said, "NO. I will not stop that job." Hunter returned the car later in the day. I backed the car out of the parking space, put the car in forward and the check engine came on again!!! I told Hunter ASAP. He said come back in four days on Thursday, and I will refund your money. Hunter was not there Thursday or Friday. Saturday, he changed his tune and said he was only interested in doing work pertaining to the work he did to replace the Oil Pressure Sensor - I told him I didn't want him to do so many times. By doing that "job," Hunter created new problems with the car that were never there before - IN ADDITION TO CRACKING A FAIRLY NRW RADIATOR BECAUSE HUNTER DID NOT ADVISE REPLACING THE WATER PUMP, THERMOSTAT, GASKET, APPLICABLE HOSES BEFORE THE A/C JOB WAS DONE, AND GUESS WHAT HAPPENED TO THE RADIATOR AND TO THE CAR WHEN TRYING TO USE THE A/C THAT WASNT DONE RIGHT? I asked to use the A/C kit promised by Chris. Hunter made sure he was very parental amd said "NO," but wrote on the receiot an A/C kit was used. Did his mechanic replace every gasket and seal that was in the kit just as Chris had promised? The A/C job was not done right. I complained. The clowns at the Big-O store on Menaul made me sign a waiver that they are not responsible for what they did to foul up my car; and, will not warranty the parts, workmanship. Jerome, their Manager, doesn't seem to understand the difference between terrible, incompetent work done on Jerome's watch that Jerome should be accountable for as the store Manager, VERSES someone in Jerome's personal life that has nothing to do with crappy quality of services and abusive treatment given to customers breaking their cars under Jerome's watchful eye- JEROME!!!!

The mechanic kind of begrudgingly did, but he did it quickly and then honestly told me what the issue was, reset the code and sent me on my way. $0 dollars. Old town automotive should be avoided at all costs. Not trustworthy. I asked them if they could quickly check the code. She told me how much a full diagnostic was ($200) I should have left then. After the "full diagnostic" When I asked if they would charge me a "partial diagnostic" she said no. I asked for the Yelp check in discount $10 or $20 maybe? no. AAA discount ? No. After asking if the was anything she could do to help me out she finally caved and gave me the aaa discount because she "doesn't even subscribe to Yelp and can't understand them on the phone half the time." I don't know if it's worth noting... THE ONLY REASON I WAS THERE WAS BECAUSE OF YELP, It was 10 or $20 discount and they were already ripping me off... I regret letting my anxiety get the better of me at the start of the trip. This situation was easily avoidable. I should have just left. Still waiting for that full diagnosis btw. Boo this garage.

They had a bit of a line and I kinda felt like they were in a hurry to get everyone done quickly, which is good in a way so we were able to get on with our day right away but it left me hoping nothing was overlooked. I wasn't offered anything extra and I don't think my air filter was removed or checked. I always change it myself anyway.

My mother's SUV had serious hesitation on acceleration and idle issues but no check lights. We needed a shop to do some live diagnostics. ADeal took on the challenge. They were able to find a problem with the radiator. It was about to fail with large hidden corrosion and a small leak. The A/C compressor was engaging and disengaging extremely rapidly which was a drain on the electrical/charging system. That problem came from another hidden problem, a previously improper install of the low side A/C aluminum line. After the diagnosis, they made an accurate estimate for work hours and parts. They were able to source some hard to find parts in town quickly. It could have been a catastrophic and very expensive failure of the cooling and/or A/C systems if mom was out in the middle of the Navajo reservation without help. The SUV will require more work and we'll bring back to ADeal for honest professional repair. Cheers for the guys at ADeal.

Found Larry's Service Center on google map when my Odyssey's battery and charging system light came…read moreon during my road trip to New Mexico. Saw some good reviews online and thought i would swing by Larry's Service Center first after making a few phone calls to check around the auto shops in town the next morning. When I first passed by the shop, I completely missed it as it is not conspicuous. All garages were closed with only a small "open" sign tucked between the windows. I had to make a U-turn and pulled up the back of the building, yet don't see any open garages. I pulled up the side of the building and walked in the door and was stumped for a moment when greeted by an elderly couple and a child. I thought I was in the wrong shop until I met Alfred in the adjacent service area. After talking to Alfred about the problem, he checked the battery's voltage and did an OBD scan. The battery is ok, and the OBD codes narrow the issue to the alternator. Alfred gave me the costs to replace the alternator, new and remanufactured. I was skeptical at first and asked Alfred to check the connections since I just had the drive belt removed for oil pump leak service before the road trip. I was concerned that the previous mechanic may not have reconnected properly. Alfred checked and didn't see any issue with the connections. Not wanting to risk another 1,500 miles around NM and back to CA, I went with the new alternator, but the new alternator turned out to be defective after installation and had to be swapped out with a remanufactured one, which was the only option at that time. I waited in the shop for both the alternator replacements, which were done swiftly. Alfred charged me for the remanufactured alternator cost and the labor is reasonable. Coming from California, I am pleasantly surprised to find such a family-oriented, personable auto shop in Bernalillo. Alfred took the time to look at my vehicle and accommodated me between several cars that he was working on to get me back on the road right before Christmas. I am glad I didn't judge the shop by the outward look, the inside is packed with over half a century of auto repair experience and as much sophisticated tools as the love of the family working together to serve the Bernalillo area. I made my way to White Sand and Carlsbad and back in California without a hitch after the repair thanks to Alfred.
