They claimed smoke in the engine room and limped back to port before we even turned into the Arm. Other reviews have reported unexplained itinerary changes that eliminated the main part of the trip. One has to wonder if they don't go up the Arm simply to save money when it's not fully booked or if their boats are that unreliable. While I understand mechanical issues, their compensation policy was completely inadequate. They offered a free drink on board and a coupon for 15% off a future cruise. Anyone booking on the internet can get a 20% discount off any cruise! After much back and forth they finally offered a 20% refund. The final price after this discount was approximately double the price of a narrated harbor tour. We received an un-narrated tour of the container port instead of a tour of the natural environment, which is what we were promised. We feel cheated by Harbour Cruises of Vancouver. Sail at your own risk!

Really excellent staff help the clubs at JSCA support their goals and events and a very well maintained facility. Hard to be critical of these guys. Not to be confused with The Galley Patio and Grill (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/the-galley-patio-and-grill-vancouver) which is the restaurant located upstairs at the JSCA offering fantastic views, cold beers and decent pub fare (tho a bit pricey). This restaurant is an added gem and makes for the perfect end to a day of sailing sitting in the sun on the balcony sharing a pitcher. Check the JSCA website for a list of the clubs at the center or just come down and rent a boat for the day or take a lesson at Mac Sailing. Excellent and welcome community at the JSCA!

Arguably one of the best patios in the city with a non pretentious crowd all back from being on the water and needing to fill the empty stomach. We ordered the salmon burger which was although generous in size not that tasty. The fries were thick and nicely cooked so I was binging on them as opposed to my burger. All in all the food is ok, view is fantastic and the crowd is friendly.

When I spoke with Colin he appeared to be a pretty cool guy that knows what he was doing. A few hours in to the first session I noticed that he was getting louder and louder barking out commands which made it very hard to concentrate on what I was doing. As the lessons progressed I found him to get increasingly loud and obnoxious. He especially liked to pick on the one woman that was part of that course to the extent that at the 3rd day she was in tears and didn't return for the final lesson. At the end of the last session Colin said that we need another day of sailing because in his opinion we are not yet good enough for the Basic Cursing Standard certification. In my opinion this was just to squeeze another $200 from each of us. I was unable to participate at the last session because I came down with the flu and therefor did not receive my Basic Cruising Standard. What a waste of $800.00.

The captain even let kiddo steer the ship for a while. Booking can be difficult if you're not standing in the office. Online booking isn't an option. When you click the link it merely has the customer fill out an information card and they're supposed to call you. If you cal the number listed you'll always be routed to an answering service. Basically customers just have to leave a message and hope someone calls you back. Even through all that, the experience was totally worth it.

Everything about the sail was memorable. Right from the humorous introduction to sailing and water protocols to the camaraderie and warmth of the crew. First hand Chris is a very interesting person and knows how to make visitors feel involved in the sailing by drawing volunteers for stowing ropes and hoisting the mast. He is helped very ably by his crew Rosy! Captain Gunner keeps a leisurely pace allowing even the most hesitant of sea-farers to relax and take in the sights. Sunset over Pugetsound onboard Spike Africa will be one of my most-cherished moments from the San Juan Islands trip. The schooner allows for your own beverages on board and the open sea makes for an excellent place to have a sip of wine. The sail is pleasant with the added element of other like-minded strangers joining you on a ride, added to that, the very reasonable price makes for an offer hard to refuse! An evening well spent..
