We hired Just Gill of JGill Installations to build us a deck for our pool. He charged us $110o for supplies, but refuses to send us an invoice for it. Then he built the deck, or rather his worker's did while he sat under our carport on his phone. The deck looked nice when they finished. However, as we began to use the deck, we found here's what we found: 1)nails that were left pointing out of the wood; 2) one of the support posts was so split that someone could easily be seriously wounded by it; 3) One of the decking planks was also split so bad that it too would cause injury; 4) There is about a foot wide gap left between railing and pool that wasnt even enclosed making it a hazard for children that might fall off the deck; 5) the gate is now not able to close due to incorrect building and installation and we needed the gate to lock out any children from wandering up to the deck. There were other things as well that we have just accepted as unprofessional such as the railing not being sanded so splinters can get into skin, and the stairs were not placed where we told them to build. Justin Gill didnt even go look over the work his crew completed or he would have found most of these problems. After some texting, he did come and correct some of the issues. Now he just is sporadic with responses to come back so we have requested a refund for the labor since we have to hire someone to fix his mistakes. Just found out that he is not licensed, as he says and it says on his business cards. I have found other people he has built for that are also having major problems and he will not respond to them to fix things. Be aware that while he may be the nicest guy in the world, he is young and inexperienced and very irresponsible. We paid him a total of $2200 for the deck. read more

In May of 2021, I contracted with Akels Floor Covering Store on Rodney Parham with manager Stephen…read moreGessner. Stephen came out and measured, etc. A month or two later the install began. I noticed the installer, Ed, using a small sander in the second bedroom. When asked what he was doing, he said he was "smoothing out the floor". I asked him if that was going to work. He said it would. He also used white quarter round against my dark floor and dark baseboards. He did take them up when I told him it looked awful and was not acceptable. He came back several times trying to match the baseboard. Finally, I told him to just let it go. He said as the stain dried it would match better...of course, it never did. The floors were installed and initially looked okay. The big problem arose a year or so later when I tripped on the flooring. I realized then that the flooring was coming apart. I called the installer who came and glued down one of the boards and said he would have to talk to Stephen about the floor. I didn't hear anything for a long while so I called the store. Two other installers came by and looked at the floor. On leaving they stated Stephen would contact me. I called the store manager numerous times and left messages which received no response. Finally, someone answered once Mr. Gessner was ill. Another time he was on vacation and i was told he would call me when he returned...he never did. He eventually responded after I sent a text to his cell asking why he was ghosting me. He came by and stated his insurance person would have to see the floor. Someone did come by. The result, per Stephen, was that the insurance company denied the claim, assigning blame to the house settling and would be my responsibility to fix. This house was built over 50 years ago and yes, settling is an aspect of houses. However, this house had already settled way before this started. I regret having ever done business with this company and I NEVER will again! I would NOT recommend them to my WORST enemy!

I'm not sure of the exacted heated/cooled sq. footage, but on zillow our home is approx. 2,100 sq. ft. Normally we're DIY'ers but after assessing the condition of the (minimal) existing insulation and having a vaulted ceiling, we knew we should hire some professionals so that we knew the job was done correctly. Plus after the cost of materials, renting the machine, working with a spouse in a hot attic, and with neither of us knowing what we were doing, we thought it would be well worth hiring someone. Jimmy was quick to answer the phone and put us in touch with Richard who contacted us that same day. We got a fast and accurate quote just based off of some pictures. The cost was very reasonable and competitive; honestly it was much lower than we had anticipated. We got the quote Tuesday, hired them for the job on Wednesday, and they completed the job in under 2 hours the following Monday! I couldn't believe how fast and effectively they worked. The company raised the floors, and they are within reason of being level. However, I noticed a couple of months later that they crushed one of the airducts that was literally next to one of the support beams that they installed. I did send an email to my point of contact with the company and received an email back stating that since I "did not reach out to them within the 24-hour period of them installing the beams, that they were not liable for the damage." I reached out to the BBB and Crawlspace Solutions called me. The company stated that they were going to send someone out to look at the damage to determine if they caused it or not. I took off half a day of work, leaving work at 11am and waited I received a call from the company at 3pm stating that they were not sending anyone out, because they had sent several crews out to work on their other issues which they had caused. The company has been out 2 times in the past to fix other issues. They pinched wires which caused breakers to trip and the support stands that they used to level the house were not centered on the beam. If you use them, be sure to inspect everything they did shoddy poor work. Imagine had this happened to a disabled individual and they could not go under their house to inspect the work for damages. The HVAC tech that I am having repair the damage stated that it was obviously caused by their crews and is going to cost me a good portion of money to get fixed.

We were at the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store on South University, looking for flooring, and a…read morefriendly passerby said we should also try Chuck's. Re-Store's selection of flooring was limited at best, so we'd already mapped our path back to Home Depot, but decided to check out Chuck's first- Man oh man! This is the spot when you need a big project done and you need to do it quick, on a budget. It's a housing supply surplus store. They don't have a super broad selection, but *tons* of what they do have, and the prices are a steal if you can be flexible about color/style/shape etc. They're especially good for tile, flooring, vanities, sinks. In general, it's not a broad selection, but there are some solid finds. On the downside, it is way off the beaten path (possibly hard to find), and quite frankly, looks a little scary from the outside. Still, if it's what you're looking for, it's magical to find a warehouse like this! This is a raw, unpolished, construction materials store, so it is dusty, dirty, a little disorganized. You have to know what you're looking for, and how to use it. So if you go looking for it, be prepared for that :)
