Beautiful Museum & Amazing Architecture…read more I really enjoyed visiting the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. The staff and everyone we interacted with were very friendly, and the parking was awesome--easy and convenient. General admission is around $16, but if you visit on Friday, admission is free, which makes it an even better value. The location is also great because you can easily walk over to the Kimbell Art Museum and make a full day of exploring the Cultural District. For me, one of the biggest highlights is the building itself. Tadao Ando is one of my favorite architects, so getting to experience one of his buildings in person was really special. I've always looked at those iconic concrete Y-columns and thought of them almost like giant martini glasses holding up the precast concrete roof. The combination of concrete, glass, water, and natural light creates such a peaceful atmosphere. I really love the location, the architecture, and the overall experience. Definitely a museum I would recommend, especially if you appreciate modern architecture.

The Holy Sepulcher exhibit cost $18. It featured small wooden fragments believed to be relics of the True Cross from Christ's crucifixion. Each item carries a rich history. As Christians, we enjoyed this exhibit very much. The other areas of the museum were more spacious. 2 notable works of art included Caravaggio's The Cardsharps and Michelangelo's The Torment of Saint Anthony, an early piece thought to be his very first painting. The entire museum was easy to walk through and explore at your own pace. Service: The staff was friendly and accommodating. Self-service luggage storage was a plus as it was very convenient. We had 2 carry-on luggages and a backpack. There is a big cafe inside with patio seating for lunchtime. Parking: Free in the parking lot. We took ride-share from DFW airport since we came here before checking in to our hotel back in Dallas.

The environment is beautiful, and their permanent art collection never gets old. My workplace brings people here on rare occasions- people who don't have traveling, financial or social opportunities to visit places like this, and it truly brightens up everyone's day whenever we come here. Once, one of the people we brought was seen eyeing everything in awe. This was a middle aged man mind you, and he admitted that he had never been to an art museum so he was both overwhelmed and excited. The Kimbell Museum has singlehandley sparked curiosity and even motivation to a few of the peers to try out art. Even if they didn't, there's newfound appreciation. I also like that they have a gift shop section, and an area outside where people can enjoy the view and waterfront. What really stood out to me was the people behind it. The father-and-son team curating the museum are incredibly genuine and welcoming. They're the kind of folks who take the time to talk with visitors, share stories about the cars, and make you feel like you're part of something special rather than just passing through. The collection itself is outstanding--beautiful vehicles, tons of nostalgic toys, and plenty of unique pieces that make you stop and look twice. There's clearly a lot of thought and care put into how everything is displayed. The most amazing part? It's free. In a world where everything costs something, they've chosen to open the doors to everyone simply because they love sharing it. That says a lot about their character. It was definitely my favorite part of our trip to the area! I couldn't believe all the artifacts it possessed. Texas played a significant role in the American Civil War Secession: Texas joined the Confederacy in early 1861, a few weeks before the first shots were fired at Fort Sumter. Texas declared its secession from the Union on February 1, 1861, and joined the Confederate States on March 2, 1861, after it had replaced its governor, Sam Houston, who had refused to take an oath of allegiance to the Confederacy. Military: Nearly 90,000 Texans served in the military. Leaders of the Texas forces included legendary figures John Bell Hood, Albert Sidney Johnston, John Bankhead Magruder, Patrick Cleburne, and Ben McCulloch. Battles: Texas forces fought in many major battles, including Gettysburg, Antietam, Second Manassas, Wilson's Creek, The Wilderness, Vicksburg, Corinth, Shiloh, Chickamauga, Glorieta Pass, Pea Ridge, Gaine's Mill, Franklin, and Mansfield. Texas also defended its own coastline, repulsing Union invaders at Brownsville, Sabine Pass, Galveston, Corpus Christi, and Laredo. Blockades: The Union blockaded Galveston, Houston, and other ports, making it difficult for farmers to export their crops. Closing: The surrender of the Trans-Mississippi Department of the Confederacy at Galveston on June 2, 1865 was, as Capt. Benjamin Franklin Sands of the United States Navy noted, "the closing act of the Great Rebellion." Just a few weeks later on June 19, Gen. Gordon Granger, commander of U.S. troops in Texas, arrived in Galveston and ended slavery in Texas by issuing an order that the Emancipation Proclamation was in effect in Texas later to become known as Juneteenth.
