They…read moreinstalled two Trane XL heat pump units and an air handler at our newly renovated home, and came out for at least one service call. These projects went fine - good work and responsive. They then came back to move the heat pump units onto a new concrete pad up against our house, which would be surrounded by a fence and a brick patio. However, they never said a word about the fact that the heat pump units would create significant condensation around the units during heating cycles (i.e., in cooler months), with no apparent designed drainage feature. I understand and have no complaints about how heat pumps work, but do believe the condensation should be planned for somehow, either by the unit itself or by the installer. Similar to a heat pump unit's significant ventilation requirements, its significant condensation should also be a material fact that is highlighted by the expert installer to the customer beforehand for proper planning - regardless of where they are installed. I, as a typical novice homeowner, should not be expected to anticipate this. The fact that Advantage (apparently an expert installer) did not highlight this to us has now resulted in us having standing water on our patio 24/7 during cooler months. They are taking no responsibility for failing to have planned for, or at least highlighted to us beforehand, this material fact that's unique to the heat pumps they installed. I raised this issue respectfully with Advantage, and they simply noted that they don't hear from customers on this issue very often. They offered to brainstorm ideas to address it -- e.g., aluminum pans to control the drainage -- but did not offer to cover any portion of the thousands of dollars that would be required to pay for any of this. A different contractor suggested a cheaper alternative of cutting a narrow trench in the very tight space remaining on the concrete pad around the heat pump units, and filling with gravel to allow the accumulating water to drain down into the ground before reaching our patio. Advantage declined to assist with this still-significant cost. Because Frank and the Advantage team have generally been reasonable and their prior work was generally positive, we're surprised and disappointed by their position on this, and frustrated that we will have to pay thousands more dollars to clean up a mess they should have foreseen.
