There arent many shops like Knights still around! They are a cross between an old fashioned…read morehardware store, and ironmongers and lots of other things! You can buy everything you could possibly need there, from tools to screws and nails to electrical and plumbing supplies. They cater for tradesmen but also for the general public and they are so unbelievably helpful and will advise you on what you need for a certain job. You can also just buy one or two of something rather than a whole packet unlike its competitors homease and b and q! They do key-cutting while you wait too. There is plenty of parking at the side of the store, which is situated on Ock Street.

There is lots on display so you can get a good idea of what things really look like. They offer kitchen design, but you will have to book well in advance of your visit. Downstairs there is a good selection of tiles, some of which have to be specially ordered (but they some come in to the store). Out the back there is a vast array of building materials.
Adhectic
Adhectic is a shop/workshop selling wood etc on the Radley Road industrial estate…read more They sell all kinds of wood and wood products, and also cut pieces of wood into whatever size/shape you want. I have in the past phoned them and rambled a bit about what I need (in not particularly technical terms!) and they always manage to work out what I should get, how much etc and give me a quote. Their prices are very reasonable, service is always friendly and efficient, and they genuinely seem to want to help. I also used to buy big bin-bags of sawdust from them for my pets, but this was quite a long time ago (before they had a proper shop) so Im not sure if they still do this now!

A light and airy warehouse with nice wide aisles. A good selection of paints and decorating materials. The staff always seem helpful and polite. They have some outdoor items like fencing and paving. The only issue is that they don't do the free wood cutting service like Homebase or B&Q, which can be a pain. When Wickes first opened many years ago I remember that they were amazingly cheap. Then they started to increase their prices once they got a market share. Most of their items are own brand and I have to admit that whilst they are cheap for many things, there are still others like Wilkinsons or Screwfix who can still undercut them on pricing.

I was very surprised the first time that I shopped there because I assumed that it would be a bit more expensive than the likes of B&Q. This was not the case; for many items they are cheaper. What keeps me loyal to this shop is the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners. They give good advice and do not automatically steer customers to the most expensive options. This shop is off the beaten path but well worth a visit, especially during spring and autumn when they stock a lot of plants. It was a year before I ever entered this store after relocating to East Oxford; now I wish I hadn't waited that long - this place is a gem.
