It seems to have a little bit of everything and to top it all it is a family run business that has been there for years and years. Mostly they have been able to supply the item, and when not, been very helpful in suggesting alternative places that may stock it. We have also bought several plants from them. Quality is better than a discount store, and range of useful items is about as good. Moreover, service is friendly and very competent.

The staff were extremely helpful and patient and they always get someone to bring heavier items out to your car. The homewares section is worth a look as some of their things cost less than competitors' goods. All in all great service and good selection in everything from garden furniture to door mats.

Well frequented by tradesmen who know exactly what they're after, it can be a little intimidating, but the service for the uninitiated is friendly and helpful. It doesn't look like much from Cowley Road but when you go in, there is a full-blown timber merchant with a large shop selling tools, ironmongery etc. They have a full wood machining workshop so can cut and plane to size and the prices are really good. The service is excellent too, this palce must be run very well. Don't go to a chain, this place is well worth checking out.

They focus heavily on price, and frequently have special offers such as buy one get one free, or will have selected products at half price. They sell branded goods (Radox, Imperial Leather, Colgate, Mr Muscle etc) alongside their own branded products, offering great quality at really low prices. At Christmas time they have an extensive range of lovely Christmas decoartions, both for the tree and for the rest of the house, at unbelievably low prices. This is a great store for anyone having their first Christmas in a new house, as you can buy a flase tree and loads of decorations to go on it for under £20 easily. They also sell beautiful cards and wrapping paper, along with craft accessories and sweets. It's a really bargainous shop, and definitely owrth a visit.

(In the US, staff at these types of stores tend to be trained in their departments and tend to be a good source of information.) They have a relatively good range of things, though if you really need something specific, you should go to a real hardware store. I'm having my first experience with their ability to deliver an online-only order, and it has so far been completely negative. I ordered a cabinet online on 27 April and the scheduled delivery date was already quite late at 17 May. The people they use (PJH Group) had a break-down of the truck yesterday, the scheduled delivery date, and so couldn't complete the delivery. I had planned to stay home all day and wait, and did so - and they only notified me at 6 pm that they weren't going to be able to complete the delivery. Now, they have only been able to reschedule for more than a week later, 28 May, which is over a month after the original order date. I'm totally unimpressed with B&Q's ability to deliver their online-only goods - based on my one experience so far, and on an experience a friend of mine had with doors she ordered which took weeks and several failed delivery attempts to arrive. Obviously they need to find another delivery company, and I will be going to a competitor in future for any more online-only orders.
