Jewel a once great place to shop is horrible now. When I managed a Jewel years ago it was top notch. Went tgere for $6 special on coffe only pick up ir delivery. then figured I would get ut for 9.99 got home charged 19.99. Then digital coupon ceap, budget buts. They have lost their collective minds. So many items far overpriced compared to Woodmans, Meijer just a horrible experience. Maybe a handful of deals to suck you in. When corporate hires they have no store experience. This review only concerns the self-checkout . I like many other senior citizens prefer to use self-checkout to reduce the number of people who are handling and breathing on our groceries due to a compromised immune system . Recently, the man overseeing the self-check area refused to enter a rain check for me. He told me I would have to go to a second manned checkout to use my rain checks . Unless this is a directive from store management who should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves if it is, then someone should explain to the self-checkout staff that they are there to assist customers not make things more difficult for them. Until employees are better educated in assisting customers , I will stick with Mariano's where I can always find assistance when I need it read more

Online flower ordering is as fraudulent as they come . You go on the site you order flowers that say they will be delivered the same day they take your money they charge you shipping an hour later you get an email saying sorry there is no one in the area able to deliver which mind you was less than 5 minutes from the closest store but they will go and give you your money back within 5 to 7 business days and suggest that you go and look for local florist shops . If that's really how you want your business to reflect you've done a good job . Yeah call customer service hoping for some kind of support and there is a sweet young man from the Philippines who instantly says I get this complaint all the time I completely understand I would be frustrated too . I did go back to Jewel and took the mostly dead roses with me and asked for a refund since they basically only lasted for one day. I'm guessing the roses had been frozen before being put up for sale. The customer service rep said that can sometimes happen in winter and gladly gave me a refund. I moved my rating up because of customer service and the refund but not all the way because it happened in the first place then required another trip for the return. read more

Overcrowded walls, shelves, and aisles. It seemed to me that store was too packed to be ADA compliant. Sale items were still higher priced than my usual grocery store. I did get a 2-for-1 on salad dressing. Poorly organized. I had a hard time finding items and had to ask for help, but employee told me exactly where item was located. Parking lot had not been plowed either and was extra sloppy. read more

Plenty of parking and a well-organized store. Came here to buy what I did not pack for my trip to Chicago. I was able to get everything within this one stop to Jewel. Haven't been to any other Jewel locations, so I cannot compare them. The candy aisle is strategically placed in the center right before the cash register, so I ended up grabbing a few snacks before checking out. Over all very good experience. *Bring your own bag so you don't get charged for plastic bags! read more

Be careful when you are thinking of buying seafood from the meat department at Jewels. I asked for 2 cod fillets and when I got them home and unwrapped them they had an awful small and were slimy. I took them back and they gave me 2 different ones. same thing. Each time they got the fillets from a foam cooler in a room off to the side of the meat department. I wonder what the health department would think of that. Finally I just gave up and threw them in the garbage. Never again!! read more

I needed moving boxes and this Jewel delivered!! After calling three Jewels in my area, I hit the jack pot with this one!! The attendant was so nice and helpful. He helped me carry the boxes to my car. The vibe of this Jewel is very comforting. If you haven't gone to this particular Jewel in Wheaton give them a try. I've encountered soooo many absent/flitty self-checkout cashiers and have had to do the weird Hey, I Need Help arm-waving deal... Not this guy! opened a gallon of Jewel milk today which expires in 5 days and it is sour! ZERO STARS.

I enjoy shopping here. They have fantastic grilled chicken and on Mondays it's $5.99 for eight pieces. It's some of the best I've tried ever. Their sliced jalapeno cheese bread is also to die for. They serve free sample size cups of coffee and there's a few small tables by the coffee station to sit at that are removed from the hustle and bustle of the store. I feel welcomed here. read more

Deliveries come from this store and the fruit is always almost half rotten. Many things out of stock, and substitutions don't always make sense, so you have to pick no substitutions, and just roll the dice. The fruit thing is becoming an issue. The pickers should really give the customer the freshest fruit there. read more

This is my favorite of the local Jewels around Wheaton (Naperville has good Jewel Stores) I'm not sure why I like this one better... the parking lot is in poor condition but doesn't feel as hazardous as the other two (Glen Ellyn & Danada) getting in and out is easier.. there is less "bustle" Pricing seems to be a little better here. Jewel has improved their Deli, and gotten rid of those horribly deceitful 1/2 lb prices.. I don't want to say that I am harboring any resentment... but I do feel a bit distrustful.(new owners.. benefit of the doubt?) It's too bad that the Dominick's across the street closed, I would often hit both on a shopping trip and the Dominick's was a really nice one. Mariano's is still my favorite place to shop in Wheaton, but Jewel has better soda prices, a larger variety of some things and a much better frozen section. Plus, there are the dry goods and drugstore items. Overall, a good store and I'm glad they are still here. read more

Just stopped in for a quick trip- needed cups and Advil. We were going to get a big pack of cups, but they randomly had huge 32 oz cups on sale for 0.79. I feel like all Jewel's have random clearancy-type sales that don't carry over to the other stores. Advil was pretty hard to find, it wasn't in the cough/cold aisle- only children's meds there. Just ordered grocery home delivery for the 1st time from Jewel and it went flawlessly. I was highly sceptical, and just hoped nothing they brought was expired. I'm still trying to figure out how they did it so well. The meat, produce, and deli were my main concern but everything was fresh and the frozen/cold items were frozen and cold when delivered. The truck has a freezer and cold storage, the driver told me. Oh, the driver was great, he called with a time he would arrive and came within 2 minutes of that time and brought everything into my garage for me. The only hassle is the initial purchase of each and every item the first time, but once it's in there I'm hoping next time I order will be quicker as some of the items will be on file already. I was emailed a receipt prior to the delivery arriving so I knew what was substituted and the total cost. The great thing was all the sale items and mymixx showed up. Although there were 2 items not available (cottage cheese of all things), the rest was all there. I will be shopping with delivery now for the foreseeable future. It's a lot easier to have everything brought to my home and I just have to clean it before bringing it into the house. read more

Senior shopping hours for COVID19 safety are a joke. My elderly neighbor went this morning and states that it was packed with people, not seniors, without recommended masks and not observing the 6ft. social distancing guideline. This is the Jewel I go to frequently, they get LOTS of money from me! I am there so much I know the butcher, the deli people, the checkout people and many others who work there. Sad, but true. I have 4 boys and go to the grocery store as many times as some of you go to Starbucks. This Jewel is always clean and well stocked, but stay away from the bathroom! With all these kids I'm usually taking someone with me to the store and the little one always has to go. I don't know what the deal with the bathroom is, but it is gross. Fraternity party gross. I now insist that everyone who goes with me hits our bathroom before leaving. Besides that, the store is clean, the staff is helpful and the muzak isn't too much torture. The prices are too high here, but not as high as the other Jewel located in the Danada area of Wheaton. They have 5 self checkout lanes here which is good if you only have a few items. My main beef with this place is that there are never enough cashiers and you have to checkout with the self checker if you don't want to spend all day there. It doesn't matter what time or day you go, you will have to wait in line unless you suck it up and check yourself out! read more

I have been coming to this store for 20 years. The people who work here are my friends. Their kids have babysat my kids. The employees are great. Management SUCKS. The management at this store has driven it into the ground. There are ALWAYS long lines at the checkout, and special needs baggers are not well supervised. I love the idea, but THIS store just does not execute ANYTHING well. I only come here now because my prescriptions are here, but I'll take my business elsewhere. Honestly, I've never seen a store with such great employees managed so poorly by horrible managers. I know this may upset some of my employee/friends, but the management is truly awful. Every morning I go in to shop and there are lines at every checkout. People in line are trying to stay out of the way, people are cutting in front of others (usually me), and I cannot ever get out of there without spending 30 minutes in the checkout. Hire some more people!!! I do thousands of dollars of business in that store monthly. I've been saying this for two years now, but I'm finally just going to go elsewhere. Caputo's has better food, a better hot bar, no lines and much better prices. There's no pharmacy, but Walgreens has a drive through! read more

Store is okay enough, but I wouldn't ever use the pharmacy here. Dropped a prescription off, was told it would take about ten minutes (the pharmacy was practically deserted), forty-five minutes later I left without the prescription after being informed that I had to wait another "ten" minutes. By that time there was a long line and it was pretty obvious that it wasn't going to happen any time soon. TL;DR: if you need a prescription filled fast, just go to the Walgreens up the street and save yourself an hour and a headache. read more

I do most of my shopping here. My only complaints have been when they no longer stock something I've been buying for years. I also frequently buy from their bakery. Cakes, doughnuts, etc are very good. Today I bought an apple pie for the first time. Badly undercooked. The apples were very firm and sour. I hope they read the reviews. read more

I was at the store at Geneva and Main St Wheaton and had a VERY negative encounter with the manager Cathy Williams. I was unable to find an item (MoneyPak) and asked at the customer service register where they were. Instead of answering my question, Cathy accused me of participating in a scam, wanted to interrogate me about why I wanted to buy a product that was associated with so many scams (for the record, I wanted to send money to my brother!) and she even demanded to see ID. She was extremely rude and unprofessional. I USED TO do a lot of business at Jewel Osco but that will likely be reduced dramatically. Someone this rude negative should NOT be in management! This store is just a mile from my home and has been my grocery store of convenience for about 10 years. Unfortunately, I have learned to purchase only certain items from here. Produce in particular is not as fresh as other places. I throw away badly bruised or rotted produce at least once every month. They have recently installed a salad and soup bar that is a step below the competitors in town. The deli and chicken section is also always just sub par. Most of the front end staff looks like they want to commit Hari Kari and their manager always scowls. The constant rearrangement of aisles and checkout is confusing and disorienting. With all the grocery options in town, I can afford to go elsewhere and do unless time is an issue. read more

If you've been to one Jewel, you've been to them all...right?! My opinion differs among the Jewel locations in the area. I don't mind this one at all as I can spend my lunch hour roaming around it without getting lost, and one time I scored a table of discounted liquor...ok, not the entire table, but I did make a purchase from it, I never really see that at Jewel, but since I saw it here, I do look! I usually hit up this location between 12-3, it's never super crowded and the lines move fast (there is no self check out). read more

The meat packaging could be better, their meat seems to leak more than what I'm used to from the stores I used to shop back in upstate NY. 4/11/2016 I don't generally come here anymore. They keep rearranging the isles, the baking isle is separated now. The produce is not always fresh. I have seen mold and fruit flies hovering. The packaged salad on the left wall is sometimes expired. The isles are always packed. Check out is always slow, even the express lane. Checkout lines are always backed up. I could check myself out a lot faster but now that's gone. It's hard to steer through the produce section as the isles are slanted. It's just a headache. 6/24/2016 Went here today looking for snacks. I picked up a pre packaged berry bowl with strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and blueberries. I checked out the contents inside and tipped it over a couple of times, everything appeared to be fine. I went through the express lane and it was slow as molasses again, cashiers having long conversations with customers and a long line waiting. I went home, opened it up, started scooping out berries and the middle of the package was rotten. The raspberries were all mushed apart, some of the blueberries too. The strawberries and blackberries were fine. I wasn't a happy camper. * I had asked my cashier why they took away the self checkouts and in reply I was told that it was to be more personal with customers. Honestly now, if I wanted to be that social it wouldn't be at a grocery store. I will no longer be shopping here unless I absolutely have to due to time and I will always open anything from the produce as soon as I leave the store because I'm tired of buying rotten food from them. read more

This Jewel has the best customer service around....all the other stores should use this store as a training center. The store is always neat, clean and well stocked. The meat department exceeds my needs every trip....very accommodating staff! The deli people are the friendliest around...very personable. I do not base my visits on pricing....would rather have the service...make the price well worth the trip. I was a big fan of your pastry department. I liked the cakes. All of your pastry's were very good and you used natural ingredients. I recently purchased a birthday cake for myself at you Geneva, IL store. I decided to try a yellow cake with vanilla frosting. When I eat it I was very disappointed. The frosting tasted like chemicals and when I looked at the ingredients it was made with lard and chemicals. My wife said that I should not have gotten a cake off the shelf. I agreed. A couple of months latter I bought our favorite chocolate mousse cake that my wife had ordered from the bakery in our regular store in Wheaton IL. To my dismay and shock the frosting on that cake was made from lard and chemicals. Someone must have made the decision to make the cakes with cheap ingredients. I asked the store manager and he said that all I had to do was ask for butter frosting and they would have made the cake with butter frosting. How was I supposed to know that!? They used to make all the cakes with natural ingredients. Very disappointing #jewel cakes...you get my drift. WTF is with your Store selector! Now really angry. read more
