I was a bit apprehensive since I've only kayaked once before and really wanted the deluxe tour, but…read moreit was booked so I did the classic--and I'm so glad I went anyway! Billy and Pierah were awesome guides--patient, encouraging, and fun. I stayed toward the back while getting the hang of paddling, but got to enjoy the underwater views with Billy's lit-up kayak. I was surprised it's man-made, flooded limestone mine but it's still definitely worth checking off the bucket list. Just be prepared--it's VERY cold! Equipment was in excellent shape and store staff were helpful. Would absolutely recommend!

Our group booked an 8pm boat tour and it was the best end to our day! Everyone was so friendly…read morethere from the sweetest gift shop employee to our fun and funny captain! Very knowledgeable staff and very organized. Definitely recommend you fill out your waivers online ahead of time, gives you more time to look around the gift shop. No formal restrooms on site but the port a potties were clean and there was a handwashing station as well. Dress comfortable as the caves are a bit chilly but not very cold, depends on your tolerance of the cold. Take caution and hold onto your things securely, if it's dropped in the cave waters it's gone. We were told they will not retrieve lost items so bring phone and keys at your own risk. :)

Stopped by on my way to elsewhere and had a nice look around. Unfortunately, it seems that the tour…read moreis not running (or it's running really late) because of COVID. Still, there was enough to see to keep me interested. History of the mine and the rail yard, lots of signage, lots of places to sit. I was able to put my nose right against the gate and look down the mine at least a little bit. Cool air blowing back and it definitely gets dark back there. I'd like to return one day and actually do the tour. [Review 13458 overall, 777 of 2020.]

My Grandfather actually worked as a coal miner in this mine. My parents and I have wanted to visit…read morefor many years. We called several months in advance to schedule our tour . Our tour started at 9:30am but we got there around 9:10 am to check out the gift shop and look around aka take pictures. We lined up near the front of the portal and the guide told us the do's and don'ts of the tour. No flashlights are allowed. They can "trip"the little rail cars we were touring in. The tour ends if the cars get "tripped". Flash photography was allowed. The rail cars were a little rough and bumpy but we didn't mind. The animatronics tell the stories of what it was like being a miner back in the 1900's. They looked so realistic. It was kinda creepy. The tour lasted for about 30 minutes. Cost was $16.95 per person and seniors $14.95 I did enjoy it but I felt again I wasn't feeling that small town hospitality I had expected. My gosh my Great father and Grandfather worked there and my Dad and I were born there. They probably need 2 people working there. One to run the gift shop and one to run the tours. Would have enjoyed a little background info from the tour person. There's no bathroom on site. We went to the lamp house Coffee House afterwards.
