I had lost my purse, which had my house keys and credit card in it, so all I had with me was my phone. I asked the hotel if I could pay with Apple Pay since I didn't have my card, and I just needed a safe place to stay until morning. The receptionist told me they only accept cash or card. I then asked if I could book through Booking.com and pay online, would they let me check in. The receptionist said yes. So I made a reservation and paid upfront through Booking.com. But when I showed him the confirmation, he suddenly told me I couldn't check in until 2 p.m. He hadn't said that earlier. Even though I had already paid, he then told me I had to wait *outside* the hotel. It was 5 a.m., I was alone, a woman in a vulnerable situation, and I had gone out of my way just to find a safe place. I was shocked. When I asked for a refund, the hotel refused. I had spent the last bit of money I had, thinking I'd at least have somewhere safe to stay. Being turned away like that--with proof of payment--was heartbreaking. The receptionist should have told me from the start that I wouldn't be allowed to check in until 2 p.m. Asking someone who's already in distress to wait outside in the early hours of the morning, despite having same day reservation, is completely unacceptable. And refusing to give me a refund made everything worse. This whole experience was deeply disappointing and honestly, shameful.

Greeted right away at the desk and was assisted by, I believe her name was Naomi. She was outstanding and very helpful by allowing me to check in early after a long flight and a short wait. The room was extremely clean!!! Walked over to Chipotle for a quick lunch as food service was not offered until 4:30pm. Later in the evening I headed to the bar for a bite to eat and a glass of wine. The wine selection is extremely poor and what they did have tasted horrible. I ordered the steak tacos which were not fit to be fed to a dog. There was a pile of tan meat that I could not identify as steak in any way and that was it on the taco. They gave you a little plastic container of pico and sour cream that did not mask the taste enough. The nightclub music blaring from the speakers made it very challenging to have a conversation at the table and asked that it be turned down which they did but after about 30 minutes it was back up again. I would definitely return but would avoid the restaurant and bar which is frustrating because it will require an Uber to grab dinner unless you have a car of course.

Just a heads up, the hotel is located in a kind of shady part of the Bronx. So keep that in mind. We didn't mind it at all and never had any issues regarding with that. The rooms were nice and clean. One of the biggest things we did like was that it was walking distance to EVERYTHING you could need: Across the street there is a place called Sandbar Cafe. This place was amazing. Super clean place, kind of like a buffet where you pay for the weight of your food. Also right down the block there's a deli place with food. Close by you will also find a Walgreens, Dunkin Donuts, Burger King, Hard Rock Cafe, Yankees Stadium, a couple of little bars, smoke shop, souvenirs, I even saw an urgent care as we took a walk. So the fact that everything is soo close by made up for the location! So if you're not afraid, I would recommend this place! You are literally surrounded by everything if you don't mind talking walks! Oh! There is also a Deli that is open 24 hours next door, to the south. We ate at the Hibachi Grille & Sushi Buffet in the shopping center across the street and everything we had good. No one tried the sushi. A note about the free breakfast at Super 8, get there early. The waffle mix was gone by the time I got enough to make three-quarters of one. A lot of the fruit was gone. People after me did flag an attendant that I had not seen. Definitely would stay at this Super 8 again.

Update 10/2024 I've…read morestayed at this hotel a few times over the years. And I've seen an improvement this visit compared to my last one in June 2024. The hotel, in general, is in a great location with easy access to food and the train, and you can find something late at night to eat for some reading. During my last few stays, I arrived late at night. I did stay in a room that has been upgraded, and I like the changes. Especially in the bathroom, but the smoke smelled on and off throughout the halls. Entry into the lobby area was sometimes too much, and just easy access to walk into the hotel for guests and nonguests. The late-night staff is always welcoming and helpful during my visits.
