Let's bring this one up to the current. So what's changed? Well, if the pandemic was good for anything it meant that paying a visit here now requires a reservation instead of the cattle call of years prior where you could have XYZ tons of people showing up especially in season. If you go to their website everything is spelled out perfectly. There are two different experiences. Three days during the week they do mingling tours where you are taken in with the creatures and on Saturdays they do a fence line feeding session. Note a few things: We booked our Saturday time last second but it was also mid-June and there was a threat of rain that thankfully never came. Times are released a week in advance. The weekday mingling sessions book up a few weeks in advance so don't think you're just going to show up and book it last minute. Possible, but not likely. jerseyshorealpacas.setmore.com/ After you book your time you will get an email and the day before a text from Tish that explains everything perfectly. Read up and you'll be ready on where they are, what to look for (two small orange cones denote their driveway) and to stay in your car until someone checks you in. The Saturday fence feedings are free and they do provide you with free carrots to feed the alpacas with. No, this is not BYO carrots or anything else. They've got you covered. There are donation containers on the fence line and in the gift shop. The gift shop also has a good array of products which are made from the wool. The products mean nothing to me but my old lady more than took care of her "quota" and mine. I'll paraphrase the same question I asked six years ago...what do alpacas and South Jersey have in common? Nothing. Should this work as well as it does? Probably not but honest to God it does and is excellent counter-programming when "down the shore" versus another beach day or buying more overpriced Chinese plastic. Just. Go.

We had a wonderful time! The owners definitely love their alpacas and treat them great. Just an FYI their signs aren't super obvious we accidentally parked in the farmers market next door. The farm is a home with a circle drive. Easy to miss

Really great place! Our family had a lot of fun especially the kids. Reservations are a must because they only have a few spots. The carrots were provided with your reservation. The guide was very knowledgeable and he made sure that our group was safe and having fun. The alpacas are very well taken care of. Definitely recommend this place to visit with the family.

HEARTS HEARTS HEARTS. This place absolutely earns its five stars and more. We wanted to come for a private tour, but it was too last-minute and we weren't able to get a spot. We decided to brave the public weekend hours, expecting a swarm of people and not much one-on-one time with the alpacas and guides. Welp, we were wrong. There were only a few people when we arrived at around 1. Admission is free and they actually give you a bag of carrots. We were able to meander between the pens, learn fun alpaca facts from Jim (one of the owners), feed them carrots (their eager eating is so freaking adorable), pet their soft fluffy heads and necks, and get all our pics and videos in. I loved getting to know so many of these fluffers, like Thunder and his buddy Tanzanite (Thunder is blind and Tanzanite took it upon himself to be his friend and caretaker of sorts), General Patton, Panda, Annabel, Maybelline (she's a spitter), Lightning, Michaela, Sera, Zelda, and Princess Leia. They each have very distinguishable personalities, and the guides gave us the inside scoop on their relationships. By the way, they spit when they get in close proximity, especially when they get competitive over food, so try to keep 'em spaced out and break those carrots up so there's no jealousy or fighting. We also spent a lot of time in the shop. They have so many fluffy, adorable alpaca toys, as well as winter wear, yarns, and more. We spent more time and money there than we probably should have, but it was worth it, and Tish, the other owner, was so knowledgeable and helpful. Will definitely return for a private tour so I can get into the pen with these cuties.

Highlight of our trip to Cape May! I booked a public tour for our group of 6 and we had a great time petting and feeding the alpacas. Jim, who served as our guide, was extremely friendly and answered all our questions about the animals. He and his wife have been running the farm for over a decade and you can see all the care they put into the animals. They also followed very strict COVID guidelines and gave us clear instructions on group sizes and cleaning our hands, so we felt incredibly safe. Be sure to book ahead of time on their website! Will definitely come again and book a private tour next time!

I made reservations for a private mingling tour at Jersey shore alpaca for myself, my mother and my two kids age 10 and 8. This experience did not disappoint!!! When you have a mingling tour it is just your group with the alpacas, as well as the owner Jim who seriously knows everything about alpacas! You are given carrots to feed them so they come right up to you. My kids had the best time and so did the adults. Cute gift shop Too.

My friends and I throughly enjoyed ourselves here. We did a private tour which I highly suggest doing. The person in charge of the tour owns the place with his wife. I can tell the thought and care he put into the Alpacas and the farm. We were able to feed and try to touch them ( I found out that they don't like to be petted like dogs.) He was very informative and helped us take pictures. I would highly suggest this place if you're in the area or passing through.

As soon as we pulled up we were greeted by our guide, a nice women, and she told us where to park. She was very nice the entire time and throughly explained the rules and safety things to us and our kids. We were able to feed all the alpacas and pose for photo opts. Very fun and cute experience for kids and adults, run by the sweetest family. 1 hour for 6 people was $40 and there was a gift shop after with the cutest handmade items. Would definitely recommend.

We went for our Anniversary Day Out. It was a great afternoon. Great facility & even cuter alpacas. We recommend this if in the area!

Grand enjoying visit to the Jersey Shore Alpaca Farm, enjoyable experience as we were taught by owner. I highly recommend a visit.

My BFF and I had the most enjoyable experience this summer bringing our grandchildren to the Alpaca Farm for something to do starting from being met in the parking lot with instructions on what I call "How to Play Today." From Where to Park, where we would enter the farm, where to wait for the owner at the bench provided where we would start receiving an introduction and a bag of carrots, to then being instructed on how we would follow her along the well thought out corralled gated pathways along our Alpaca interaction tour where we were instructed how to interact with the Alpacas. First allowing only one Alpaca "The Welcome Committee, Greeter" behind a fence to come out of the barn and say hello. The owner then proceeded to show us how she fed the Alpaca and asked us if we were comfortable to try and feed the Alpaca ourselves. We each took a turn and had a wonderful time. Then we were taken to the next phase into the next gated area where a few Alpacas were allowed in with us a d we were taught how to use the Stop hand signal with one hand while hiding our bag of carrots behind our back with the other to communicate to the Alpaca no more carrots from me so we were not overwhelmed by all of them at us. Then the next phase was seeing the next group putting and ending at the gift shop. The owner was so patient, kind, informative, and friendly. I highly recommend visiting The Farm to learn about Alpacas and interact with these adorable animals. It's a very organized, clean and enjoyable experience! I have a lot of Allergies but this facility and the animals were so clean I did not have any problems or odors that day.

I went there with my GF and a friend. Jim the owner is extremely kind and interesting. You are able to feed the Alpacas Carrots. It really is the most adorable thing. Jim also is very informative about the Alpacas and is very receptive to questions! You can tell he has a passion for taking care of Alpacas

Such a great place to visit. I'd recommend this to anyone who loves animals -- solo travelers, couples, and of course, families with children! First of all, it's free. The owners are wonderful for offering the experience at no cost so please make sure you leave something in the donation box!!! I was given a great tour by Tish, one of the owners. She was really sweet and informative! She told me all the names of the alpacas as well as some background info. She gave me a large bag of carrot sticks to feed to them. It was a hot day and she had water set out for the visitors. The alpacas are goofy and adorable. They are very well taken care of and you can tell the owners are passionate about their herd. There's also a small gift shop with various items made of alpaca fleece - gloves, hats, sweaters, souvenirs, etc. Hours are 10-4pm on select days. Best thing to do is to check their Facebook page for changing hours (remember, it's a family operation). FYI - the farm is in the back of a house. If they are open, they will put out a sign for the alpaca farm by the road. Park in the driveway or on the lawn if driveway is full. Highly recommend this wonderful place!

My girlfriend from Florida has been obsessed with alpacas for quite awhile now. We were planning to take a trip down to Cape May and Atlantic City with my sister and I came across this place. I decided to surprise her with this visit and couldn't be happier that it went as well as it did. ****NOTE: If you want to go inside the gate and see the alpacas, you need to set up a private appointment which normally lasts an hour**** I emailed Tish (the owner) in November wanting to set up a private visit to see the alpacas since they're normally closed on weekdays. Tish was more than helpful with setting this up for me and we booked it for December 29. A few days prior to that she emailed me to confirm and give me directions which was very nice of her. When we got there, she met us out front and led us to where the alpacas stayed. The males and females were separated. Tish was very knowledgeable about the animals and told us a lot about them. It was very interesting learning about all of them and their different personalities. They each had very creative names, like Maybelline (because of dark circles around her eyes which looks like eyeliner), Chenel No. 5 (Probably my favorite name out of all of them because it's adorable), Panda Man (panda eyes lol), and just so many more. Some of them are friendly and will let you pet them, others aren't and walk away. Tish gave us each a bag of carrots to feed them which was so much fun. We went inside and the alpacas were going crazy over the carrots. We got many pictures with them and they are all so funny to look at. My sister and girlfriend each brought a selfie stick with them and the alpacas were so intrigued by it that they all stood together staring at it. That got us such great opportunities to take pictures with all of them huddled up so definitely bring a selfie stick if you have one! They do tend to spit once in awhile, but Tish told us that's more of a warning to the other alpacas (fun fact!). After the hour inside the gate with them, we went into the shop and watched a video of one of the younger alpaca's first day. It was absolutely adorable. Honestly this was one of the best experiences ever. Definitely check this place out!! You won't regret it!

If you try to get there early, parking is definitely easier and closer to the Zoo entrance. We got there around 1pn and it was starting to fill up. The good news is that zoo parking is FREE and so is the fee to get in. They ask for a donation and we were happy to provide a donation for such a great experience! I can ony imagine the upkeep for a zoo - - the property upkeep and animal care, the workers, etc. There were so many animals that were already out with many more that are starting to be brought back outside since the weather is getting warmer. Don't miss this treat when you're in Cape May - - or make a special trip alone - -it's great for kids and for people any age! The park is very clean, has plenty of rest rooms, food/drink and also a beatiful playground when you first get to the zoo. The only animals we really missed were the Giraffes. I'm sure they were somewhere -- and they dont really like the cold temps - - I'm sure they'll be back as it warms up. They dont like temps under 50 - - i dont blame them. And don't sleep on the reptiles - - the turtles, frogs, snakes and alligators are waiting for you! All in all, we were there for about 2 hours. I would guess when it's more crowded, it may take a bit longer to get through the exhibits. So go now and have fun before Memorial Day gets here. :)

Changing rooms are by the pool. The one is small the other closer to the entrance appears larger. A group can be up to eight people. Depending on the otters you can bring your phones to the pool. They all sound like they have their little preferences. Our two Triton and Poseidon are crazy for hair ties. They really worked at the one lady's tie when they discovered it. They give recommendations regarding the otters and what they do and don't get into. They are curious and generally get into anything and everything. There is a railing they can't reach/climb but if your towels hang low they will try and grab them. 45 minutes of swim and 15 towel off with them. Being October and the end of day it was chilly even though the pool is heated the breeze wicked the body heat pretty quick. They say they don't have the experience below 50F and it is obvious why. To say how much fun it was to spend time with these two is beyond words. They spend time with everybody though they really seemed to like to perch on the one guy there. I had one desperate to get into my bathing suit pockets and tried to get up into my rash guard which was loose on me. Epic cuteness. $200/person. I highly recommend the photo package. The guide is used to taking pictures of them and can much better anticipate where and when to take them. I struggled as I didn't trust to keep my glasses on... no spare pair should they grab them. That was either an extra 10 or 15 and well worth it. This was a birthday present for my daughter and worth every penny and the 4 1/2 hour ride down. I'll call this one bucket list worthy. They have other animals there. A capybara and sloth feeding experiences too. I think it was $15 to walk the park. They do have guided tours for more where they tell all about their animals. The ravens may say 'hey' to you as you leave the otter pool area. Their fennec fox is adorable. I would definitively do this again.

The Otter Swim is in a REALLY clean and heated pool, which was great; I also recommend the $10 photo package, as it comes with a lot of iPhone photos so you can enjoy the moment without needing your phone. Note - the property is pretty rustic. It's not run down, but some of the enclosures need to be enlarged (which our tour guide even mentioned they were in the process of updating) and the overall property was simple - portapotties (with handwashing station outside), the entire walk is on dirt/grass paths (would probably not be super handicap friendly, although it is a flat property). Would definitely recommend a visit here to support their efforts and enjoy some up-close encounters with incredible animals.

From the pea fowl roaming free all over the grounds (and the males will get in your face if you go near the females to say "hi" or get a picture lol), to the bear sleeping in his water trough on a hot day, to the lazy porcupine napping on a perch, all of these guys were healthy and content! As others mentioned, it's not a huge zoo, but there is an impressive assortment of animals (35 exhibits), and all animals I saw were total extroverts and very fun to watch. My kindergartener was entertained for a full hour, and it was a hot day, so a few animals were hiding out in the shade and not visible, or just unavailable in their indoor enclosures. We heard one talk, at the tiger exhibit, but on a more fairweather day, with a schedule to catch more talks, we could've stayed a lot longer. The (also free) animal talks at different exhibits throughout the day (11am, 2pm and 3pm), are very informative and interesting. The zoo is mostly shaded, outdoor paths in a loop. A small river runs through the zoo, with benches and places to lounge. They do have a picnic grove. Outdoor food is allowed because the concession stand is only open on certain occasions, but feeding animals is prohibited. The staff was super friendly and relaxed, but very qualified, caring, and attentive to the animals. I got a really good vibe here! Only negative was the parking lot is way too small for the zoo and I had to wait for a parking spot to open up. Not only is there not enough parking for the zoo, but it shares the lot with the Splash Park nextdoor, which is nuts in summer months. Do combine your summer zoo visit with a $4 (2024 price) visit to the Splash Park, but arrive early or be ready to battle for parking! Will visit again! They have summer ZOO CAMP, do birthday parties, animal education visits, and private tours! For the record, my daughter is absolutely 9 months old--small for her age, no teeth, not walking, sitting in a stroller with a pacifier. His comment was unnecessary, insulting, and immediately set a negative tone. If the policy is that everyone pays--even infants--then state that clearly. Don't make rude remarks about a child's appearance or insinuate dishonesty. I even offered to pay the $6, but instead of being straightforward, he backtracked. For a place that depends on families visiting, this kind of treatment is unacceptable. If you choose to come here, be prepared for a rude encounter before you even get inside. We won't be returning, and I would not recommend this "zoo" to anyone who values basic respect. To the owner: your mouth is bad for your business, friend.
