For these sandwiches to work, you really need to start with fresh ingredients, or they'll be awful. After they come out of the oven, they add the avocado. I usually add the lettuce, onion, tomato, and a heaping helping of mayo and giardiniera or hot peppers. They're SO good. Their sandwiches are stuffed with ingredients, regardless of which size you get. The Skinny is filling; that's their smallest size. But wait, there's more! Their bagged chips are sui generis to Potbelly. I haven't even seen them sold in Chicago. But they pair perfectly with their sandwiches. Now, I recommend washing this all down with a bit of sweetness. Their Dream Bars are AH-MAZING. Grab one, even if you save it for later. I love them. I'm a big fan of their lemonade because I'm just sick of carbonated sodas. Folks, Clevelanders....it's worth your while to give this place an honest shot! Potbelly... bring back the PB&J! The store owner, Brijesh Patel, was very prejudiced against Americans. He once exclaimed to his wife, "Fuck this country, I want to go back to India! All the people in this country are fucking idiots! All they care about is fucking each other and getting drunk!" Then, he realized I was standing behind him and (with a fearful look,) said to me, "Uhh, I didn't mean to offend you. But, its true. Your people are stupid." Also, my friend was fired by him for being "too slow" after he worked there for 3 days. And, he told me I should "find a job where I didn't have to use my brain as much." I took offense to this because I had to take this job because there were not a whole lot of options since I lived too far from where I previously worked and lost my vehicle. I was a trainer for a Darden restaurant prior to working here. He hired me claiming he would give me 35 hours a week and told me that he couldn't give the hours to me because I wasn't able to make the food right 100% of the time (yeah, because people are perfect right? 90-95% isn't good enough in two weeks bud?) He never fired me. But, he often talked about how his employees didn't care about his store and said they complained about not being paid on payday because they made too many sandwiches wrong which affected his profit margin (dude, seriously?! Maybe you're just a terrible manager. A sandwich made wrong by employees once a week who are dealing with 50+ customers an hour isn't bad. But, whatever.) Also, one of my close friend's co-workers came to visit me and we talked for a while. She laughed at the owners poor attitude for me for cutting the meat a little thicker than he wanted. The owner claimed the meat would be "too chewy" for the customers since it was 1/16 of an inch thicker than he normally cut it. (Lie. He was trying to keep his costs down and took me for an idiot as I stated prior.) He and his wife would often speak in India to one another and I heard him talking about other employees regularly, but I couldn't tell you what they were saying due to the language barrier. But, based on what English they did speak to one another, I could tell he wasn't saying anything positive. This is just a terrible practice IMHO. read more

I got an Original Dave's Cosmic Sub. For 6 bucks, I was expecting something tasty but not necessarily outstanding....and I was pretty much right. The subs were packed, which was nice, but the fillings are your standard, run-of-the-mill, bulk bagged ingredients. Pre-shredded lettuce and cheese, average deli meats, and bland unidentifiable herb flakes. My cosmic sauce was also unevenly spread on one side of the sub which made a mouthful of mozz, salami, pepperoni, and prosciutto kinda dry at first. The pickles were also bland and wimpy. Still, when you put all these ingredients together for a cheap eat, you've got a decently yummy sub that's hard not to devour quickly. Overall I'd definitely go back to Dave's cause it's a quick and easy bite for lunch or dinner. The subs might not have the freshest or highest quality ingredients but they are a step above your run of the mill deli subs and the price is right. The Elyria location also has a convenient drive-thru (order ahead by phone) for rainy and lazy days. The service is efficient and friendly, and the decor that I peeked from the drive-thru window seemed cool in the kitschy 60s way.
