I will frequently tout Jersey Mike's as one of the finest franchises in the U.S., right up there with Carrabba's, Bonefish Grill, and Ruth's Chris. While chains are not the preferable choice for us foodies, and can even be as deplorable as McDonald's, Burger King, and Waffle House, they can occasionally be exemplary. Unfortunately, this particular Jersey Mike's does not fit the mold. This franchise actually serves some of the best sub sandwiches in America, and the meats and cheese at this Jersey Mike's were up to standards. But the bread is a key element to the sandwich, and the bread here was less than stellar. It was nearly stale and not up to franchise standards at all. The store was recently remodeled, so perhaps it is under new ownership. The previous version had much better bread. Employees were welcoming, except for one. In 50 years of eating, I've never met a cashier who didn't say a word. As I approached, he simultaneously pointed at the to-go bags and the trays, which I suppose meant "For here or to go?" I took it to go and tried to make small talk with the cashier as he ran my card. He just stared out the window blankly and acted like he didn't want to be there. I said, "thank you." He said nothing. Weird. In Berry Hill, some of Nashville's best restaurants surround this Jersey Mike's. I would try those and not this. But I would eat at any other Jersey Mike's in town. read more

Went on a Sunday. Have not been there in years. The person fixing the sandwiches was not friendly at all. There were no other customers in this place. The back area where they make sandwiches was very dirty. The meat slicer was not clean and crumbs were everywhere. The worker had not cleaned up the back area. My sandwich was cold and just "blah". The food has always been fine, but there have been multiple times where I have showed up 20 minutes before they're supposed to close, and I walk in and the employees tell me they're closed. I totally understand it's annoying if someone walks in a minute before closing with a huge order, but this was 20 minutes. It appears to be a revolving door for employees. Management must have issues with work environment and/or training. Each time I come in there are all new faces and long lines due to on the job training of those new employees. Painfully slow service as a result. I came in right before closing Saturday night. The three people working could not have been nicer. They promptly made my order and even helped me decide on something new, I had never tried, The Big Kahuna. It was delicious, as were the other two sandwiches. Stopped by here on lunch with another soldier because it's close to the National Guard base here in Nashville. I work in Franklin for my civilian job and I usually go to the Jersey Mike's there, but this location has blown me away with customer service. From walking in the door, to them taking our orders, we were greeted with kindness. It was just me and my friend eating in the restaurant so it was really cool talking to the two guys working. Colton and Larry were the names of the two guys and I can't thank them enough for making our day. We came from our motor pool hot and sweaty and in a bad mood and they made the day more enjoyable. I work in the area and if you are familiar with this area you would know it's kind of busy around lunch time. This store delivers every time no matter how busy they get. I can't say enough about this crew they're very attentive to customers as they come and go, the food is always up to par. So...I ordered a club sub on white, with heavy mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, vinegar, salt and pepper. The guy proceeds to tell me I want it Mike's way. I said, no, I don't because I don't want oil and spices. He says, then you want it Mike's way, minus oil and spices. It's my job to educate customers on how they should order...AS he proceeds to put oil and spices on my sandwich, which I didn't want. I explain that and he removes the pickles and onion...and by this time, I'm just over it. I also didn't get the bacon that I paid for...SO...maybe you should focus on providing the sandwich the customer ordered, rather than EDUCATING THEM. My friend also didn't get the right bread. I typically don't review 'chain' restaurants but this is the best jersey mikes location in the area. Their staff is super friendly and funny and if there are like 10 people in line you think, "dang i just want a sub and get the heck out" seriously, 3 minutes you'll be leaving. Always clean, parking kinda stinks at the intersection but everything else makes up for that. They have a tip jar which is pretty ridiculous at fast-food places. But these subs are fast and these guys are funny. If you put a $1 in there i promise you they will recognize it and say thank you. This is the worst JM that I have been to. Feels dirty inside there. I live in Hermitage and usually go to the one out there or the one in Donelson, which are both fantastic. "It's sure no Subway"??? Tart was certainly correct about that. Instead of piling pre-packaged cold cuts onto measly little bricks of bread, Jersey Mike's slices all their meat right in front of you. All of their items are fresh, from the bread to the tomatoes, and their sub sizes are 7" and 14" rather than Subway's puny 6" and 12". Ok...sorry to get so worked up. I worked at a J. Mike's in high school. Yes, I'm a bit biased, but this is genuinely one of the best sub chains out there. Unfortunately, Jersey Mike's aren't as ubiquitous as places like Subway, but of their many locations, this is one of my favorite. When I attended Lipscomb, this was one of my go-to food spots . The staff at this location certainly isn't talkative; they don't seem quite as accommodating as the folks at the Elliston Jersey Mike's. However, their subs are always fresh, and the shop makes a pretty good spot to have lunch. Parking is typically plentiful, and, aside from Baja Burrito, you're probably not going to find a better spot to eat in the immediate area. read more

I saw Jersey Mike's in Nashville when I moved here last year, and had it on my list of places to check out. I'm originally from South Jersey and grew up eating proper hoagies with quality lunch meat, freshly sliced, on a soft fresh roll with lettuce, tomatoes, onion, peppers, and oil and vinegar with spices. I love me a proper hoagie. Since there's no Jersey Mike's near me, I've been going to Subway and trying to figure out how to get a sandwich that tastes that good, and I'm always disappointed. No, I don't want it heated. No, I don't want mayo or mustard, and yes, I asked you to put the oil and vinegar right on the bread. I'm always disappointed but at least it's cheap. So today I stopped in to Jersey Mike's and was surprised to see the meat being sliced fresh for sandwiches, and that "Jersey Mike style" means lettuce, tomatoes and oil and vinegar. The meat was quality, and the cheese was actual cheese (Subway, do you really think that we believe those little half-circles are actual provolone cheese? I think not.) I got the Italian. They told me the bread dough is actually made in NJ and baked on premises. It tasted great. That was one awesome sandwich. Now, if they only had Tastycakes, and I could top off my meal with a jelly krimpet, it would be perfect. Is this better than other Jersey Mike's? I honestly don't know. Reviewing chain restaurants may be slightly pointless, since they're generally consistent. And that's certainly the case here, as far as the food's concerned. Jersey Mike's has been my favorite chain sandwich place since I was able to step up from the affordability of Subway (side note: I think comparing the two chains is fruitless, since one focuses on price, the other on better food). The reason I think this location is worth reviewing is not because the food is better than any other, but because of the service. It's rare that ordering food at a counter is an enjoyable experience, but that's what I have every time I come in here. The workers (who are probably called "Sandwich Artists," or something like that) are always having a good time, will strike up conversations with customers, and be patient for indecisive people like myself. And none of this slows down the process. You know what you're getting when you go into a sandwich chain you've been to before. But know that here, you might get a good time, too. read more

They make suggestions, get me to try things a bit different by adding different meets or branching out and trying new ones. The guys that work here are what makes me come back. We noticed there was one near our hotel so stopped in for lunch and they subs are amazing. So much meat. It was fast even though we got their during the lunch rush. Hubby and I spent $30 on two okay sandwiches, chips, and sodas. Too expensive for what you get, in my opinion. We can easily get fast food for $20 at a lot of other, nicer places. The bread was a huge sub roll, and had copious amounts of cornmeal sloughing off of it the entire meal. The bread overwhelmed the cheese and steak in my cheesesteak. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because I've been there before and had fine service, but today the teenager who was working there wrote down my three sandwiches and then acted like I told him a completely different order than what he wrote down in front of me. He then proceeded to banter me in front of a full line of people saying I had told him the wrong order. How does that even happen? He wrote it down and when I tried to correct him, continued to come at me in front of all the customers. I found the whole situation completely unbelievable. I finally said "fine I'll take whatever you made. Forget about it.", and the kid continued to banter me about how I had told him the wrong order and now I was going to have to pay for four sandwiches. I had already told him that was fine even though it was his fault! What's the point of bantering a customer who is saying she will just pay for the extra sandwich THE KID made by his own fault. I just moved to Nashville from Texas and I've been to this location twice in the last month and both times the staff has been so nice and inviting! Which is important since I'm so new to the area and don't know many people yet...so little things like a simple smile and patience go a long way.
