If crisp charred undercarriage, rich mildly sweet red sauce, quality fresh mozzarella with a light saltiness to balance the gravy, that holds its point without flop, and bites with pleasant true crunch, is your addiction, than DeLo's is your katzenjammer! I know from what I speak as I have been an aficionado since arriving in Trenton to live and work in the 1980's. I had no problems standing in line outside their Hudson Street row house or the Hamilton Avenue restaurant for an hour for the opportunity to absorb the local color of the Chambersburg neighborhoods and cramped booths, without restrooms (Hudson St.) just to devour their pies and wash them down with amazing birch beer from their old fountains. When I lived in the capital city I was there almost every week. True, Hamilton offered flushing and salads and was somewhat more civilized, but lacked the awesome birch beer. The Lunch Special (personal 12" pie with one topping, soft drink), for $12 was too good to resist. So I didn't. Delicious. Satisfying. Fun. And, Gina was a wonderful server. The Burg is from the Hamilton Ave part of the family, after all this time, it has become a simple choice between which lineage I prefer. I love them both. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and absolutely delicious! I will order the cheesesteak with extra cheese next time but I just added shredded cheese at home. To keep a long story short, an employee went outside with his apron & gloves on into the basement to pull out a ramp to put in front of the door so they could wheel out an oven or something. He came back into the restaurant, picked up a broom or mop, then decided to proceed to the oven to check my pizza then touched it with his dirty gloves on to turn. Total disgust! I think it's important to know the quality of service you receive when you go into these establishments preparing your food and not properly handled. What I saw violates all sanitation rules so ... at your own risk. Lastly, as a regular customer I was offended by the owner offering a free soda on my next visit--after given me all the excuses about lossing money and a gas line broken by the city the previous day, which has nothing to do with an employee not knowing how to properly handle food and sanitation. See he was more concerned about losing money more than treating me as a valued customer. However, the owner did offer to make another pie right away but it cost me being late for a meeting waiting around, but that's another story. Take accountability when something is wrong, don't give unrelated excuses because with a business, just like life, sometimes you have to pivot cause things happen. Otherwise, loss customers. They are so unappetizing I cannot believe they still sell them. For a short time they were actually decent, but now they are 99.999% breadcrumbs and less than 0.01% meat. I taste zero meat and just bread crumbs. They're so perfectly shaped that when you cut it the shape stays perfectly to the point it's spongey. It's really disappointing.
