Great haircut! Last minute call and they got me in. Old school place, quality service.

The skinny: Save yourself. Probably faked positive reviews. Worst haircut ever. The long: Absolutely horrible haircut. I called in advance just to confirm if they do fades. The lady on the call adamantly said they do it with confidence oozing out with a touch of fake politeness. I get there. Place is empty. Four workers there. The lady who I spoke on the phone can't even understand my instructions for a simple "zero skin mid fade". But she pretended like she knew what I was talking about. She proceeds to give me a haircut. Don't know any other way to explain but this. In the next 30 mins, I felt my soul slowly leave my body because I could tell by so many things that this lady has NOT A SINGLE F$$cking clue how to do ANY kind of fade. Terrible. Just terrible. I probably could've given myself a better haircut. Explains why the ship was empty. read more

We love the whole staff. COVID has hit their business hard, like many in retail and service. They follow all the safety protocols. I've been coming here since I was a little boy, in fact, this is the first place I ever got my hat cut as a little boy--which you can see in the picture shared here--and framed on the barbershop wall! Now, I live in Boulder, CO, but I still come by to get a fresh 'do every time I'm in town visiting my parents. Not only do I get a warm sense of nostalgia when I stop by, I get a fresh new haircut! Brought my three sons based on reviews and pictures, 3rd son is 1 yo and his first haircut. Ladies were nice as can be, gave my baby a first haircut certificate with a sample hair, treats for the boys etc. Quickly realized not one of their heads had even a section that was even. I asked several times for a fade up the sides and back, they just weren't capable is all. Insisted on leaving a chunk long on corner of forehead for a reason I couldn't even really understand. Soon as the styling dried up it looked ridiculous and I trimmed it myself. read more

I dont know if my review for this place will matter but I will say Im not coming back. This was my third visit and I thought to give them another shot but this time the service was just bad. She is a nice lady but I felt she never took her time to give me a good haircut. It was over in 5 mins. Shortest time I was in a barbershop. Didnt bother to clean up the edges with a shave and didnt bother to clean up my brows. I got out with hair still in my forehead. And ai was dumb enough to give her a tip too. This is the only place I will go to get my hair cut. First of all, they offer everything: cuts, straight razor shaves, facials, eyebrows, etc. Most importantly, they are very concerned with cleanliness. They take your temp right when you walk in and they insist that you use hand sanitizer. I'm never disappointed with my cuts or shaves, and they always do great work. They are also super affordable--especially for the North Shore. read more

if i could rate this zero stars i would, i got in a chair w a lady that said she was capable of doing a fade- absolutely just shaved my head one size and pushed my hairline back so far. they even charged my friend 58$ for a "fade and beard" and absolutely butchered his haircut. if you want aunties that think they know how to cut hair - go here. but i warn you -100/10 for me now i have to grow my hair out and wear a hat everywhere i go read more

Best haircut I have had in years! I have been struggling to find a reliable barber since moving to the area three years ago. I have tried all the chains and some of the local places and the results have been inconsistent. I never considered my hair complicated but the stylists seem to struggle with the concept of me not wanting the boxy look that is trendy right now. It's always too short, too long, or just not styled right now matter what I tell them to do. Freddie at Jerry's Barber Shop did an amazing job. Took his time and gave me exactly what I was hoping for. I'm a happy customer and will be back! $20 for a haircut is very reasonable as I have paid twice that for something I hated. read more

I followed Shabee here and he has been cutting my hair every two or three weeks for several months now. I like my hair tight on the sides, fade from 0, 1, 2, and long on the top. Shabee is awesome because he mixes his skills with the barbershop style fade, but is also a skilled stylist with scissors. You tell him what you want and he can do it. He is also super accommodating. If you want a salon quality cut/with barbershop clipper work at a price that is way less than you would be paying elsewhere, you can't go wrong. I have been going to Jerry's for 2+ years and have never received a bad haircut. Unfortunately I made the mistake of getting a haircut from a place up in Milwaukee which did a horrendous job. I came into Jerry's today and the ladies and gentlemen there came to my rescue and turned my worst nightmare of a haircut to an absolute masterpiece. I would recommend this barber shop to anyone on the north shore or who is near by, they never fail and everybody I have seen leaving always has a smile on their face and an amazing haircut! Carol usually cuts my hair and my wife tells me that I get a better haircut there than where I used to pay considerably more in the city. Good attention to detail (Carol always trims my eyebrows when they start looking a bit too much like Breshnev) She takes her time and listens to (and remembers) how you like your hair to be cut. Very disappointed! My husband has grown a beautiful beard and curling mustache and we wanted the sides/lines trimmed. First mistake was realizing the barber knew little to no English and still sat in the chair. We explained we wanted to KEEP the length just trim the lines and sides. No such luck, with the first swipe more then half the length was gone and there was no saving it so we said again keep the length! And with the second swipe he cut off my husband's mustache!!! This was 3 months of training and grooming gone! If you can't speak or understand English please have someone there that can interpret for you! I will give you a quick down and dirty about this shop. There is one gentleman who is great at his job, every other person not so much. Why? - Unclean and messy workstations, I understand when things are hopping, you cannot clean up right away. But when things are slow your workstation better be clean. It also makes me wary when they whip out that razor and start shaving my neck, - It seems no one takes their time, when you charge me $18 for haircut, I am expecting a pretty good job. I don't want to go home and trim up areas that were missed. - Where things went totally down hill for me is when they had some untrained dudes cutting my hair, I ain't expecting barber school, practice somewhere else. To J.F. I have multiple issues as to your review, The most obvious counter-punch is your plainly mistaken summation that Jerry's Barbershop is located in Evanston. It is not. The barbershop is located in Wilmette. And as an Evanston native, I take strong exception to your over-generalization of businesses - small and large - in that city. Perhaps your condescending attitude perpetuates a lessened incentive to serve you well. Regardless, don't mess with my hometown! Your assessment of cleanliness is also misplaced. What barbershop are you comparing Jerry's to? A true barber shop focuses on speed v. cosmetic appeal. Go get yourself a 45 dollar haircut at some upscale salon. There you may find young matrons or male yuppies to clean your hair. But guess what? Your intention is to have a clean look at either place. Jerry employs a predominate ethnic/immigrant workforce. If you interpret these folks as novices as compared to Buff or Bimbo "professional" haircutter, that is your prerogative. But please do not allow your elitism to cloud the judgment of other individuals. You are as superficial as they come, probably a person who clings to progressive ideas simply because it is more in fashion than other ideologies. Shame on you for being so hypocritical and a sycophant! I have been around the block with folks who have cut my hair. I also knew that the primary customers, Wilmette citizens, won't tolerate mediocrity. The current ownership of Jerry's - though they live in outlying areas - are good at what they do: transform your shabby look into a sharp one. You want a permanent or hair highlights? You want your hair cut the right way? Come to Jerry's. You may not be offered a coffee during your wait - because there is no wait - but you are paying 1/3 the price for their satisfying service as compared to "top echelon" salons. In short, if you can navigate through the absence of cosmetic frills and appearances, Jerry's is your barbershop for enhancing your cosmetic appeal. Note that it is an all-cash business. I didn't know that during my first visit . I had to run to the ATM machine across the street, so I offered my driver's license as collateral to convince them that I would return. That they were insulted shows the class and fiber of the business owner and staff. I left the place with all my belongings based on an honor system: very old fashioned but the method of business that earned my respect. The only caveat to this recommendation is my suspicion that the first message was crafted by the business owner. The median price of households within walking distance of Jerry's - despite the recession - is slightly south of one million dollars. To be sure, about 15 percent of the households in the area consist of one or more persons who speak English as a second language. But the redundant, simplistic, and shallow prose this individual used to evaluate Jerry's does not fit the profile of anyone living "in the area." I am reasonably certain of that per my experience and skill-set as to sociological, anthropological, and analytical perspectives.
