Pay a little more, but the lifetime warranty and reliable support were worth it. Last year I had a tip come off one of my favorite rods. I didn't want to botch scraping off old epoxy and attempting a self-repair. There are experts at Sage I trust(ed). I was passing by Sage HQ during a winter steelie expedition up there. They were not happy to see me show up at their door. Visitors are forbidden now. I snuck around the back, to receiving, and managed to get them to accept my drop off. I couldn't help but notice many hundreds of dusty rods piled in bins, awaiting expert repair and restorations. However, at 3pm on a weekday, not a soul was in the repair department. Is there anyone working here? Now, 6 months later, I have my tag # and such, but nobody will reply to emails. I just want to know if my beloved rod will be repaired and returned this summer. I'm a patient person. But this is so sub-par that I will never buy another Sage. Got a new Scott for my wifey, may need to get one for me too. And oh do I love my 5 piece, 4 wt Winston. High Sierra dream rod. Wonder how their 6 weights perform on the Lower Sac, Trinity, other favorite waters. Forget Sage. They are a shadow of their former selves.

Remington, for over the last two decades has been going on strong with a number of their different products! Great bang for the buck. If you are looking for a starter kit for a gift the beginners, look no further. Several years ago I worked with my cousins, nephews and nieces with a beginner combo package called "Pursuit Combo", today it has been replaced by what is called "Path Combo". It is a 5 weight line, 8'6" foot, 4piece rod and reel. Now the way they have it marked is 4/5/6 weight line, but with most all rods you can load up or down on the rod & reel for the weight of the fly line. This rod and reel is a nice setup for the rockies, where a small fly can be thrown, cast with a little wind and even a little distance if needed. This line has a life time warranty but you still need to take care of this combo unit. If you use it in or near salt water, I highly recommend cleaning it after every use with fresh water. Currently you can not do an online warranty setup, but they have a print out form. Just print out the form, follow the instruction, fill out the warranty and send it into them. Do not send any fancy or personal rod case, use the card board case from UPS or FedEx. Keep an eye on their waders, they are pretty good products as well! Trying to save money and have some decent products, look at Redington. Great fly fishing equipment, bang for the buck.

I stumbled upon Kayak Brinnon on a google search was soo excited to see that Christina, the owner, is a biologist who also offers tours. We signed up for the Pulali Point tour with her, and added on two crab pots! The morning of our tour she called to cancel because of an incoming storm. Thankfully she was really flexible and scheduled us for bright and early the next day. We had a great adventure on this tour - spotting harbor porpoises, bald eagles, kingfishers, and many many seals and seal pups! Christina is a great resource and I would highly recommend taking this tour with her expertise nearby. Icing on the cake was catching some crabs on our way back. What a great trip!

I also crave using a Greenland paddle on one of my long paddles in the Columbia. The paddles sold here are works of art. If my Portland-made Saltwood paddle were just a couple of years older, I could justify the purchase. Today, visiting this shop / workshop was a day to dream. The boats are all beautiful, and I have spent hours with their wonderful, well-written catalogue, wondering which boat would best meet my needs on the Columbia River. The boats are sold as kits and require about 65-80 hours to assemble. Someday, I will be a proud builder of a wooden boat. Alas, for now I have no garage to build or store anything. If you happen to be near historical Port Townsend, pay Pygmy Boats a visit--there's a lot of interesting things to see in and near the shop. And the ice cream up the street is a pretty good second place to a Greenland paddle.

My cousin reintroduced me to stand up paddle boarding last summer! My first experience was at the…read moreShilshole Bay Marina in Ballard and that was not the greatest experience. So after last summer I started looking for my own inflatable stand up paddle board. I was skeptical with the ones on amazon/Costco/Dick's/ etc. It was either put down at least $1k for a good one (paddle sold separately for $100 and up) or take your chance on a lower quality one. While searching letgo, I searched for a inflatable SUP and saw Parker Paddle Sports ad for their SUP. I checked out their website for more information. They are based here in Kirkland, that was a sign for me as I always try to support local. The SUP kit comes with a air pump, repair kit in a bright orange waterproof container, paddle with adjustable height, bottom fin for steering that snaps in on the bottom. Tim, the owner, greeted me outside his home. He had inflated a board for demonstration. He showed me how to inflate and deflate the board. Went through all the components that came with the bundle and explained how the boards were structured. I inflated mine at a near by park and it was super easy to inflate (under 10 for me, I get distracted easy). It's a bit heavy at around 20lbs with everything in the backpack. What's keeping me from giving 5 stars is I'm bummed about the backpack and lack of leash. The backpack kinda feels cheap and I hope that it will hold up with the use I will be putting it through. There is a leash connector on the board and I wish a leash came with it to be a complete beginners SUP. I'm a huge fan of Parker Paddle Sports. I can't wait to pursue family and friends to join me and send them here to get their own board!

The Martin Jr in stock was hanging with the other guitars was ready to play & she set me up to try it out. They had a good selection Martin accessories including a good assortment of guitar strings including the Martin brand so I also bought a spare set of the Martin LifeSpan Phosphor Bronze Light strings. I was short on time so did not get a chance to fully take in the ambience & experience of Dan & Sara's music store, but reading up on Crossroads before hand on their website & stepping into their store, I felt the warm embrace of some good vibes, and appreciate their community involvement in local music events in this very charming waterfront town. I like contributing to local businesses so I not only walked away with a very nice Martin acoustic electric guitar, it felt rewarding to give back. I hope to explore more of the Washington peninsula & look forward taking more time visiting Port Townsend & Crossroads Music.
