DO NOT BUY WOOD FROM JERRY JOHNSON. He is ripping people off and breaking the law. I ordered a cord of wood from him a couple of days ago. The wood he delivered (claiming it was a cord and charging $360) stacked up (literally) to a little more than HALF a cord (76 cu ft. instead of 128 cu ft.) When I called him on it, he refused to bring more wood, insisting it was "two truckloads," which is a "facecord." This sleight-of-hand, translating my order of a "cord" into a "truckload" or "facecord," is a fraudulent practice that has been outlawed ("Maryland regulations require that firewood sold in the state only be sold by the cord, or fractional parts of a cord. I bought a 1/2 cord of firewood from Jerry for $140. Well-seasoned mix of hardwood, softwood, and cherry. A couple of young guys came by the house and stacked it for me. Good communication for the delivery. I'll use them again. read more

This along with one other "wood vendor" (if you can even qualify them as such) was absolutely awful. I even recommended to a few friends of mine yet they were unable to coordinate the... delivery of firewood. Firewood, people due to constant issues with their "truck." Not worth your time despite positive reviews below (guessing this was because they ordered wood well before demand actually developed). So far still no one in the city capable of delivering firewood... the search continues. P.S. I've never left a review on Yelp before. This was that awful of an experience. read more

Wow I have dealt with a lot of firewood companies (have been buying wood for 9yrs) and I have never had such fast service. I called and within 2hrs they were at my door neatly stacked 1/2 a chord of wood. Haven't burnt it yet but it looks nice and dry. The wood itself is chopped into smaller logs, good for fireplaces. The guys were very nice and fast. I will also say it was freezing rain and nasty conditions outside, but they still came out. He also makes some lovely wood furniture. read more

You don't know how long I've been trying to find a good firewood company to delivery to my home in SE DC -- at least the five years that I've lived in this quadrant! Finally I spotted Jerry's truck turning into one of my local streets. I managed to remember enough of the phone number on the side to find him online later -- he has a couple ads posted on cr**list, and I found one other online review (positive) for him. He advertised a quarter cord for $75, a half cord for $129, and a full cord for $249. I emailed him through cr**list and he responded quite soon. We easily arranged a time for him to drop off a cord into my driveway. Bonus: he advertised free delivery! He also advertised free stacking but I opted out of that since he delivered to my house at 5:30 p.m., it was getting dark, and I'm 30 years younger than he is. :D Delivery was simple and quick, and the wood is good. My only hesitation -- and why I gave 4 stars -- is how he measures a cord. The standard is 4'x4'x8', which comes to 128 cubic feet. After stacking in front of my garage, I measured 11'x4.5'x1.5' (a slightly generous measurement), which comes to roughly 75 cubic feet. Honestly, I'm not pressed after 5 years of searching, it being this late in the winter season (it's late Feb.), and free delivery, but next year I'll ask him about it. He said he delivers to local restaurants for wood-burning ovens, too, so he's gotta be reputable. Plus it's still cheaper than any bagged wood you could buy at a shop. read more

I would highly recommend that you stay away from this individual for firewood. He is undependable and as previous reviews have stated horribly overpriced. My recommendation is to check out lawn and mulch. Much better prices and dependable professional service, not shiftless and undependable. read more

We ordered wood with Jerry Johnson after seeing a number of positive reviews. Our experience with Jerry and his crew is mixed: we ordered a cord of wood (4 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet) and the amount which was initially delivered fell very short of the order, less than half by our calculations. After letting Mr. Johnson know we had not received enough wood, he assured us the remainder would be delivered. The delivery crew came, gave us an additional small stack but unfortunately, it still fell very short. In the end, we just gave up and now we probably have about half of a cord in total. Furthermore, the wood does not burn well and is not aged properly. I believe Mr. Johnson means well and is always charming and professional on the phone but I don't think his crew knows what a cord is and how to estimate the amount of wood to deliver. I gave him a second star since he tried to correct the initial shortfall and make things right. We will not use his services in the future. read more

Jerry delivered a half cord of wood today & I am already burning it up! This has to be the best firewood I have had in my home yet!

Promises, promises, promises. Jerry promised to deliver me firewood to keep my family warm in advance of the coming storm for the last 3, yes 3, days. He promised me each time, in writing via text, that he was on his way and that only I must wait until after 3pm. The last promise was that I'd be the first stop this morning at 9am. Guess what? No one came. I even took time off work to wait for him. Well there is now no firewood for us if we lose power because we trusted Jerry. That won't happen again to us and you shouldn't let it happen to you either!!! This guy is unprofessional and not trustworthy. As another reviewer recently said, Jerry Johnson is "not worth your time". He certainly managed to waste a lot of mine and now I'm going to pay the price. read more
