They watched us all come through the door. Were happy to serve us and take money off us, yet they refused to seat us, despite the place being barely half full. In all fairness the bar staff were reasonably helpful and were reasonably happy for us to push a couple of tables together...that was until the man who appeared to be running the show appeared and said that we could not sit together, that the large tables that could have accommodated us were reserved for 7pm that evening. Despite the fact we assured him that we were only staying for the one - maybe a 2nd, we would certainly be gone before his bookings arrived. This was to no avail, seating was refused, we finished our drinks very quickly and left. How an the management of an establishment like this can have the arrogance to behave in this manner is beyond me. There are far nicer bars and far more accommodating bars on Newland Avenue than this. When we left, we crossed the road and went to Larkins, who were happy for our custom. My recommendation is that you walk past Sleepers, and find somewhere (anywhere) that deserves and appreciates your patronage.

There was no pitta bread so they gave us a bit of french stick instead which just doesn't go. The crudite's had been prepared possibly the week before and were dried out and limp. The houmus and tzatsiki I would bet had been purchased from the Tesco's up the road Really badly prepared and presented. You never feel ad though you're being rushed to drink and get out, borrow one of the papers by the door and relax. Free wifi also available. On one occasion they did seem to close a fair bit (40 minutes) earlier than they were due to so if you're going late it might be worth double checking before you travel. But on the whole we really like going there.

The decor is a little off and crumbs all over sticky leather sofas isn't exactly cosy. One day me and the Hubby got desperate as our usual "go to" coffee place was closed. We tried the hot chocolate and a flat white both of which were OK. The staff forgot my cream on the hot chocolate and later came out with an espresso full of ample cream to add on to my cup ( a nice apology gesture I thought). The staff were friendly and despite being a busy place frequented by locals and university crowds - service was actually pretty speedy and smooth.

I love coming here for a spot of lunch when shopping on Newland Avenue - it's also a place i take my god son too for ice cream as it's only £1.20 for 3 scoops - which keeps me happy because he's happy and it doesnt break the bank! They do a variety of hot and cold food, hot and cold drinks and deserts. The shop isnt brilliantly spaced for wheelchairs and prams especially during peak periods.
