Jere is awesome! My husband and I wanted to get married in San Francisco City Hall, where Marilyn Monroe & Joe DiMaggio were married. We did on Tuesday, Sept 4, 2012. We wanted to have memorable pictures of our wedding in San Francisco! I did some research, but the photographer rates exceeded our budget. After doing some research, I read about Jere through a Groupon for a Portrait deal in San Francisco. I initially wanted to buy the deal. I visited his website and i was immediately impressed by his work. But after talking to him, I asked for 5 hours of his service. We got a disc full of high res pictures. Jere met us at the City Hall before 12:30pm. He was very prompt and he immediately guided us what to do as we walked up to the Rotunda for our ceremony. He took many pictures of us and my family & friends, while the officiant was marrying us. Immediately after the ceremony, he guided us where to go, what to do, etc. All the pictures were just perfect. Jere is very friendly and very knowledgeable. He took a lot of candid pictures. He guided us with our posing to make sure we got the picture we wanted to get. He rode with us in our limo for 5 hours. Jere and Robert, our Million Services limo driver, gave us a sightseeing tour as we drove around to our next photo shoot location. I can't thank you enough for giving us memorable wedding pictures. I wish I could say that "Jere was great," but, unfortunately, it just wasn't so. My wife and I had a Groupon deal to take photos with him and we showed up and there was NO CONSULTATION at all. As part of the Groupon deal - there was supposed to be a 15 minute consultation to find out where we wanted to shoot, what we hoped to accomplish, etc. Didn't happen. Then he basically dragged us around to places near his "studio" and took 40 shots, as per the Groupon deal. We decided to take these pics as part of our seventh wedding anniversary, so we wanted them to be special, and we thought Jere would fit the bill. He didn't! He didn't seem to care what we wanted at all. He just started walking and we followed along like lost sheep. He didn't hardly look back to see if we were behind him. My wife had hi-heeled sandals, and walking at such a pace wasn't easy at all. The locations were pretty lame also. There were some shrubs, and then some logs (where we had to sit on a rock covered with bird poop), and a dirty parking garage. Yee haw!! (UGH!) The wind was blowing pretty fiercely and my wife was concerned that her hair looked out of control. Jere didn't care. He didn't give my wife time to even adjust her hair. He took the pics anyways - and they looked terrible! My wife also brought a change of clothes and Jere said we could switch clothes at one point, but he never gave us time or opportunity to do so. Our last group of pics were in his studio, but it was more like a gallery room with some random/typical background. There were no lights and only light from the window. The pics were harshly lighted and we felt like the whole thing was a waste of time and money. To top off a bad experience, he gives you one 8 X 10 print, and the rest of the pics on a CD, but at lo-resolution. If you want all the pics at 300 dpi, which is what the camera shoots the pictures at, you have to pay another $350.00 WTF? We emailed Jere to tell him of our dissatisfaction point by point, and all he wrote back was, "I thought there were some good shots" not addressing any of our complaints at all. Next time we will go to Wal Mart or JCPenny or Costco and at least we will not get ripped off like we did this time...and they will have professional lights in their studio also!!! read more

I am looking through my wedding photos now from 3 years ago b/c wifey wants to get some printed up, and thought I'd take a moment to review Jere on Yelp. Even years later, I can't tell you how pleased I am with the work Jere did on our wedding photos. He was thorough and his shots are artistic. I recall that he wasn't the least expensive of all the photographers we interviewed, but he also wasn't the most expensive. What eventually led us to selecting him was the quality of the shots he showed us during the interview and his mellow yet professional personality. He can be as involved or un-involved as you want him to be on your wedding, but he will get the shots he knows you will be looking for - and he could only know this through experience. We were the "don't be involved" types, and didn't care one way or another about posed shots. However, on our wedding day, Jere politely insisted that we pose for a few because, as he put it to me, "you'll be looking for these shots and if I don't have them you will think I did not do my job". Job well done Jere, some of the posed shots we didn't want to do were among our favorites. At our event, he also had an assistant taking shots - which was especially helpful during "one time only" moments where he could get multiple angles. I even remember him on the roof of the place we had the reception taking pictures. Finally, the albums he produced for us were great. You can pretty much get anything you want - depending, of course, on how much you want to pay. Order a certain amount in prints or albums and he'll give you all the original film and digital images on DVD-R. Can't recommend him enough. read more

Once we got to know him, we realized he had done friends' weddings, so we felt pretty comfortable from day 1. He did beautiful engagement and wedding photos for us last year. Seriously, they could not be better done. He was very professional at every stage of the process: and clearly had some experience with newly engaged couples. Jere worked with us on our tight schedule and met us within a week of talking to him. We met up at the Ferry Building during our trip to the city. He was right on time and already had great ideas planned. He walked us over to several locations nearby that you never would have imagined taking pictures at. I would like to start by saying that selecting a photographer was the hardest part of planning my wedding! I feel very lucky to have found Jere. I met multiple photographers who were either too pushy from an artistic standpoint or too inflexible to adjust their pre-set packages and prices to meet our needs. My husband and I were almost ready to give up! We were so relieved when we met with Jere for the first time. He was personable, solicited our input and was full of ideas without being overbearing. On my wedding day, Jere struck a great balance between giving the direction we needed in front of the camera without making our photos look forced or unnatural. He did a great job of showcasing the emotions and how beautiful the church was at our ceremony. We took the bridal party on a mini tour of the city between the ceremony and reception, with photos at multiple spots around the city. He completely took charge of giving the driver directions, so we could relax and have a good time with our friends. He also did a great job of capturing our animated (to say the least!) guests on the dance floor at the reception without being the least bit obtrusive. I convinced my husband of taking professional headshots for his new lab website (he just became an Assistant Professor) and although he was very hesitant about spending the money he was EXTREMELY happy with the results. Return business is a good endorsement of services, and we have worked with Jere on two major milestones. He photographed our wedding, then the 1 year portraits of our daughter. Jere is a professional. I just don't remember seeing him at our wedding and in fact he doesn't show up in the background of the video, yet we have the most beautiful photos. At so many weddings the photographer seems to be such a large presence, but not Jere. The photos speak for themselves. For my daughter's 1 year portraits, we had planned on Crissy Field but the weather that day was bad. Jere was very patient as I called between him and my husband to finalize "plan B." Jere suggested a beach location but we just couldn't do it for several reasons, so we ended up at the afore-mentioned park near his studio. It worked our perfectly. By the good results, I am reminded that portraits are about the people (unless you want to appear small against a huge scenic backdrop.) The "humble park" proved a great backdrop. The photos of our daughter amongst the tiny flowers (that she loves to pick) came out beautifully in the light that Jere expertly selected. The studio portraits came out well too. The best and worst reviews should be taken with a grain of salt. Jere offers a free high resolution picture if you right a good review for him on yelp. We purchased a groupon packagefor portraits through him. On the day of the shoot, as I was driving on my way with the two young kids and he called to say the traffic is bad and why don't we reschedule, but he agreed to me driving across the bridge to Marin. He told us to get off an exit and follow him to where we thought might be a park but It was actually a parking lot which was the entry to headlands. This is after we told him several times that we want the kids to be in a park with a play area. He made us stand near the restroom in the parking area where there was a bit of greenery and told us to pose. We were clearly unhappy and showed as it felt neither safe nor fun. After my 5 year old repeatedly asked where is the park, he asked us to meet him at a park by his studio in Sausalito and then finally took some nice pictures. There were no candid shots and we had to tell him what pictures to take instead of the other way around. Unsurprisingly, the groupon package is the cheapest part of the deal. He gives you one or two high resolution pictures and the rest are so small that you cannot share them even online with friends. I have bought photography sessions through groupon before and nowhere did i feel slighted as part of the deal but here. read more

I rarely yelp, but I just can't recommend Jere highly enough! I was very worried about selecting a photographer for our wedding, but Jere was amazing! We had some ideas of what we wanted both for the wedding and for the engagement pics and he had creative, amazing ideas for everything! He thought of shots that I would have never thought of that turned out amazingly! I told him that we liked the North Beach area, and he had secret locations that he knew of breathtaking views in the area. I love the shot of us at the Sonoma St. sign in North Beach (our wedding was in Sonoma and that was such a cute idea!) And he had this great idea to do shots of us in a cafe drinking esperesso. ....And the shots of us at the flower stand, and on the cable cars, and in middle of the crosswalk....but I could go on and on : ) The wedding shots were equally wonderful. Not only is he incredibly talented, but he is just a great guy and was a very calming presence on our wedding day. I have never reviewed on Yelp before, but Jere's photography warrants taking the time to do so. We hired him for our wedding at Viansa Winery in Sonoma, CA and had very specific requests: We wanted a lot of candid photography, "people moments", and to spend very little time between ceremony and reception on posed shots (yet get the few that we knew we would want and need.) HE DELIVERED. He was efficient and delivered all the shots we wanted and many shots we didn't even know we wanted! The photos turned out excellent! Jere also easily accommodated our request to make the posed shots brief but then suggested that we return outside during dinner for a few photos when the lighting was even better. We agreed, and he was so right! He considered what we wanted throughout and consistently made professional recommendations that ended up being right. We have a lot of fun and interesting shots from the reception of us and our guests that were clearly an indication of a highly-skilled photographer. Additionally, he captured great facial expressions and moments between us on our wedding day, which was very important to us. Jere was easy to work with before, during and since the wedding. He is clearly an easy-going, kind person with an incredible skill for photography. He mostly faded into the background throughout the day, capturing the photos without getting in the middle of it all. What a great photographer! We had our shoot at Fort Baker, with gorgeous views of the city. The light was low, but somehow Jere managed to get some fabulous shots! He was able to direct my boyfriend and I really well, which we very much appreciated. I couldn't believe how quickly he got us the prints! We were introduced to Jere when we wanted to have some photos taken of our almost 2 year old son. He's an active child, so there was no way a studio would work, so we arranged to meet Jere at Crissy Field. It was overcast, and our son was his usual self - running around, squirmy, active, exactly what you'd expect of a little boy. Jere was there as planned, and immediately put us at ease with his ideas and suggestions about light and angles and how to capture the prime shots. He suggested we go down by the water, and let our son run around a bit while he snapped candid shots with the GG Bridge in the background. Our son had a blast running around and being himself, Jere suggested when and where we might want to scoop him up for a photo or two with him, and directed the whole session with a low key approach, subtle confidence, and a flexible approach to working with our little man, 'the subject'. Just went to the website to see the results of the morning, and I am blown away! There are shots that look staged and posed, there are candid shots, there are action shots, all of this was being recorded while we were just chasing him around, and playing with him, and hanging out at Crissy Field?!?! Jere, you captured shots I couldn't have dreamed of, and love your work!! If you're looking to have photos taken, and especially if there could be a component of stress present (children, a wedding, etc) Jere is your man. My family and I drove up to Sausalito from the Sacramento area specifically to have our pictures taken by Visalli Photography. Jere was kind, gracious, and very patient with my two little boys. I love the fact that he took a mix of traditional photos mixed with non-traditional photos. 15 years ago my husband and I chose Jere to be our wedding photographer. He was in a bridal magazine as one of SF's Top 10 Wedding Photographers and we were more than 100% happy with him. He was professional, flexible, and friendly. To my surprise, 15 years later I saw a Groupon offer for Visalli Photography and knew we had to get a family portrait done! Jere was just as professional, friendly, and flexible as he was before but now I want to add how GREAT he was with our 4 kids! Taking a nice family photo with 4 kids can be a challenge but Jere was great with them. We didn't have to go anywhere except across the street from his studio to the little park and then a couple of blocks away to the water's edge and his artistic eye saw several different poses that made it look like we were in a far off location. Again, we were more than 100% pleased with our photos and experience with Jere. I recommend him to everyone! Our pictures turned out great! Jere got us an appointment quickly on the day we were looking for. Sometimes you have to wait forever to get a weekend timeslot with photographers. He captured the lighting and scenery perfectly. It was quite windy so our hair was a bit unruly, but in the end Jere repositioned us in different shots to hide from the wind. Plus, he retouched the pictures a bit to make them perfect. Jere found the perfect places to shoot my sons pictures in grass and on a really fun white chair. My son looked adorable in the photos.
