My husband and I were so fortunate to work with Annie & David for our engagement photoshoot and wedding. They were the first vendor we booked after securing our venue, so we got to know them over the course of the year leading up to our wedding in August 2025. After coming across their photos when researching different potential photographers that had experience at our venue, we were very interested in meeting them. We had an initial video call with them and knew immediately that we wanted to book them for such a critical part of our wedding journey. There aren't enough words to describe how skilled and professional they are--they are amazing photographers (individually and as a duo) and clearly love what they do. Our proposal photoshoot was the only prior experience we had in terms of taking professional photos as a couple. We met them in person for the first time at our engagement photoshoot--they immediately made us feel comfortable and were seriously thoughtful about the entire process, whether it was the location choices, minute-by-minute weather changes/forecast, outfit changes, etc. It really feels like they plan for everything and care about the little details. When we asked them about another vendor they would potentially work with on the day of our wedding, they even referenced notes they made when they had worked with them for a prior wedding. Throughout the whole process, they were prompt communicators (frequently responding to an email within minutes!) and guided us with experience and patience that we really appreciated. Whenever we had something to discuss with them (including choices we needed to make as a couple), they never hesitated to give us suggestions and feedback. I cannot say enough wonderful things about David & Annie. Plus, they offer TWO photographers! Not something I considered before, but so worth it. Details below: They helped my fiance plan the proposal by offering locations that fit his vision and even moved the date last-minute when I stubbornly double-booked us for another event because I didn't know he planned to propose that day! David made sure no one else was in the shots, and captured so many great moments of the proposal! From start to finish, the experience with A Tale Ahead was a 15/10, I genuinely do not think a single thing could have been better or be improved on - no notes. I reached out to several prospective photographers 6+ months ahead of a surprise proposal and from the first interaction, A Tale Ahead felt like the right fit. David was communicative and kind, answered my plethora of questions, and ensured the day-of was seamless and easy. David was my point of contact and I met Annie the day of the proposal. Annie and David were both lovely when we met in person and I never once felt awkward or uncomfortable and I generally do not do super well in front of a camera. Having two photographers was better than I even imagined: we have different angles of the proposal and they were able to clear the area of all of the other folx at the Palace of Fine Arts and the pictures could not be any more beautiful. No idea how they managed to clear everyone out of the way without us seeing but somehow, they did! My girlfriend had no idea I was proposing or that our friends were hiding off to the side with champagne. David and Annie captured every moment and the gallery brought me right back to the moment. We have the most wonderful photos of us separately as well as with our friends. I am so overjoyed with how everything came out and how clearly they saw us and our friends and were then able to capture it all on camera. I had been eyeing a few different photographers on Google/Yelp/Instagram for my surprise proposal. When I got confirmation that the ring would be ready in time, I reached out to all the photographers three weeks before my proposal date. Given the short window (and the fact that it was going to happen during a long weekend), my biggest concern was availability. All the other photographers took at least 3-4 days to respond back to me, only to tell me they were not available. David, on the other hand, texted/emailed back almost immediately (mind you, this was on a Sunday night). Not only was he available on the planned date, but he also wanted to have a quick phone call to introduce himself, get a general idea of my proposal plan, and answer any questions that I had. After the phone call, he followed up with a prompt email. He had already scoped out my proposal location and provided some extremely helpful guidance. He also sent a sample photo from that location where he had previously worked on an engagement shoot. If you go to the blog on their website, you can see hundreds of proposals that he and his wife, Annie, have done. If you're thinking of doing a proposal in the Bay Area, they have most likely already shot at the location that you're considering. Coming off this very positive first interaction, I felt like I was in good hands. In every subsequent email that I sent over the next two weeks, David answered all of my questions with great detail and alleviated any concerns that I had. One example -- as the date approached, there was a chance that fog could be an issue. David patiently worked with me as I thought of alternate locations. He could've easily dismissed my worries, but he provided the same level of detailed advice on these backup locations as he did on my primary location. Luckily, fog did not end up being a problem, but I felt assured that we had a solid backup plan if needed. On the day of the proposal, I shared my location with David. When he and Annie were ready for us at the proposal spot, he sent me a discreet text letting me know to start heading over. Everything worked out perfectly! They were both so nice, helping us pose for some portraits afterward. David sent a couple of sneak peek photos a few hours after the proposal. He mentioned that we would get the rest of the photos in about two weeks. Well, we ended up getting the photos in less than a week! On top of the photos being ready early, we received way more photos than we were promised. My fiancée and I both loved all the photos + video, as did the rest of our families; the entire experience was top notch! We had David & Annie for three separate events (proposal, engagement, wedding) and worked closely with them over the span of ~2-3 years since our wedding was delayed for COVID. We couldn't have asked for a better partner in our journey - they are super responsive, friendly, helpful, and very down to Earth. They're lightning quick to respond to our questions and came up with really creative solutions that perfectly matched our situation. For every event we did, they were on time (if not early!) and well prepared. Both of our parents and family/friends that were part of our wedding commented on how proactive and focused they were in capturing our moments while still having a great time alongside us. Simply put, David was amazing and perhaps the MVP of my proposal to my now fiancee. He was more than a photographer, going above and beyond and being a true partner throughout, and then delivered incredible pictures that have absolutely wowed the two of us and everyone we've shown. I had decided to propose at the summit of Mission Peak in Fremont, which is a 3-hour roundtrip hike up to 2,000+ ft. that has to be done entirely on foot. David the first photographer who agreed to such an over-the-top assignment, and he did so almost immediately after I reached out. The whole process of scoping out what I wanted and getting a contract setup was super quick and easy. We only had a couple of weeks before the proposal, and leading up to it, David was a true thought partner. He shared incredibly helpful ideas based on his experiences with other couples, including on details that I probably would've never thought of otherwise. As someone who was planning something so high-stakes, scary, and new, I found having a thought partner by my side to be more valuable than I could've imagined going in. David then truly went above and beyond the day before the proposal by doing the 3-hour, 2,000 ft. hike himself to scope out the location, and then send me pictures and ideas of different vantage points. I still can't believe he did that (which I told him he didn't need to!), but it was so helpful and deeply appreciated. Then the important day came, and of course, carefully laid plans immediately started to go awry. My fiancee and I fell way behind schedule for a number of reasons, and we ended up not getting to the summit until over an hour after the time David and I had coordinated. The entire time, David was understanding and accommodating - even as he was spending an extra hour under the hot California sun waiting for us - and when we did arrive, he helped me execute our plan to perfection (and most importantly, she said, "Yes"). And now let's get to the pictures themselves! Hopefully my writing so much about the process of working with David doesn't distract from how amazing the pictures themselves were! David took some of the most incredible pictures I've ever seen and which have awed everyone in our lives whom we've shown.
