When she left,…read moreI followed her to her new practice in Cumming, but after a couple of years, she stopped practicing to spend more time with her family and continued on as owner of the Cumming practice with three or four optometrists working for her. As I could no longer get an appointment with Dr. Lawson, I've returned to Athens Family Vision and recently had an appointment with Dr. Patel. She is also an excellent optometrist, and responded very well to a couple of my concerns. She is thorough, knowledgeable, and very kind in her manner. I will continue with her and have encouraged the rest of my family in the Athens area to give her their business.

I chose this clinic after changing insurance and based on strong reviews, but my experience was…read morevery disappointing. At my exam on May 8, I asked whether my prescription had changed and was told it had not. Based on that, I purchased a one-year supply of contact lenses without being given trial lenses. Within days, I experienced persistent migraines and blurred vision in my left eye. After returning on June 15, I was told my left-eye prescription was incorrect and it was adjusted. This confirmed the original lenses I was sold were not correct. I also had to repeatedly follow up to get updates and resolution, and communication throughout the process was inconsistent. When I asked about a refund or replacement for the incorrect lenses, the response was unclear and the issue remains unresolved. Overall, I did not feel the care, accuracy, or follow-through met the standard expected from a vision provider, especially when prescribing and selling a full year of contact lenses.

HOWEVER, Dr. Kimmich was extremely RUDE and YELLED at me on multiple occasions... for mistakes he had made. I've heard of other women having issues with him, but not men. I believe he has a problem with women specifically. I was very nervous about wearing glasses and was considering contacts. When I asked him about contacts, he proceeded to yell at me that they would damage my vision. He implied that I was vain for not wanting to wear glasses (I was a self conscious 15 year old). He did not only yell at me, but to my mom who asked him to please not yell at me. He gave me the WRONG prescription contacts and they also did not fit my eye shape at all, which caused me a lot of pain. When I came back in because the contacts were causing me so much pain, I was yelled at AGAIN for not wearing the painful, wrong prescription, contacts to my appointment. I understand why I may have needed to wear them, but there was no need to yell -- I was 15 and had no idea I needed to wear them to the appointment. Again, the other staff members are very kind. But he is a sexist pig who should not be a practicing optometrist. After so many awful experiences that left me crying, my mom switched me to the Athens Family Vision Clinic. The staff are so sweet and efficient and amazing. Also, they were way better equipped than him and clearly better doctors -- they gave me contacts that were actually my prescription and even had samples that they gave me day of. So save yourself some time and money and go there instead of to this awful man.

They gave me this whole spiel about how the charge was for the refraction exam. That is baloney. I had already paid $35 copay. They also charged us the copay which was dishonest because we didn't use the opthmolagist but saw the optometrist which should have no copay per our insurance.
