They served ice cream that's frozen with liquid nitrogen. I got a regular order of their sea salt caramel crunch. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but salted caramel is one of my favorite flavors. This is nothing against the employee that was working a solo shift on a warm day, however she was not only behind on several orders (including online orders) but she couldn't even issue a refund to us as we waited 30 minutes already and had to leave soon. What was the store manager/owner thinking? By the time we realized she hadn't even started on the orders for the people already sitting at the tables, we started to doubt if we were going to get our ice cream in time. For what it is, the ice cream was very pricey for a regular (small) size. Basically I spent about $14 to just waste our time. The ambiance is nothing special and the tables/seats were not clean. Overall, I will most likely not come back to try this place. I would not recommend coming here unless you have a low standard for customer service and a lot of time to waste...

We sampled a few different flavors and ultimately went with a two-scoop cup of black sesame and ube (the main reasons I wanted to visit), plus a two-scoop cup of Blue Moon and peach. The black sesame had a very strong, rich flavor with a slightly grainy texture that I absolutely loved, you can tell they use real, high-quality ingredients. The ube was incredible and had that authentic, natural ube aroma. It's so hard to find ube desserts that don't taste artificial or rely on weird purple food coloring, but this one nailed it. My husband got the Blue Moon and peach, which were both super refreshing and perfect for summer. Best of all, none of the flavors were not too sweet! I'll definitely be back to try more of their menu!

Scoop, scoop, hooray! I'm the 400th review for this business on Yelp…read more Since trying Handel's at previous Yelp events, I've had on my radar to try at one of their locations. Especially since my boyfriend loves ice cream. Today we made a lunch date when he was visiting town, complete with ice cream to cool us down on this warm July day in Arizona. We opted to eat in my car with air conditioning, though they have bench seating outside. In cooler months, I'm sure that seating is nice to sit at to enjoy your treat. What We Ordered: - Monkey Business scoop in a dipped waffle bowl: My boyfriend throughly enjoyed and said it was very banana forward; which is a plus for him. I personally hate banana, so he had something for once that I didn't take a girlfriend bite out of. - S'mores scoop in a dipped waffle bowl: Very interesting to have the base be graham cracker, but I really enjoyed. Love the little chocolate bits to add a crunch as you eat, though the mini marshmallows have a weird texture to me. Still a solid scoop, and I'll try other flavors when we return. Definitely looking forward to the location opening on Signal Butte, but glad we didn't wait until that opened to try. Delicious and I'm sure I'll visit the new location opening by my house.

First, the location itself is very small and cramped inside, and there isn't any outdoor seating, which made it difficult to enjoy our ice cream. The biggest disappointment here was the customer service. My friend ordered a milkshake for her two toddlers to share and politely asked if the extra half could be poured into a second cup. The employee had to ask the manager, who immediately said no. My friend explained that other Handel's locations have happily done this before, and even offered to pay for the extra cup. The manager still refused and told her she'd have to purchase two separate milkshakes instead. The request wasn't for extra product--just a second cup for two small children to share. What made the experience worse was the manager's attitude. She came across as rude and dismissive rather than trying to help find a reasonable solution. We understand that every location has its own policies, but customer service goes a long way. Unfortunately, between the cramped space and the poor experience with the manager, we won't be returning to this location.

There isn't any indoor seating, so this is more of a grab-your-ice-cream-and-go kind of place. After being out in the Arizona heat all day, we didn't mind one bit! My friend got a scoop of peanut butter pecan in a pretzel cone, which I thought was such a unique combination. She said it was really tasty, and I have to admit the pretzel cone definitely caught my attention. My daughter went with peanut butter ice cream in a waffle cone. The waffle cones are made homemade right there, and they also make their cookies in-house, which made everything feel extra special. I ordered a salted caramel sundae with butter pecan ice cream, and let me tell you--it was amazing! It was the perfect combination of sweet, salty, and creamy. My sundae also came with a cookie, so of course I had to try it, and it was so good. You could definitely tell it was freshly made. After spending the day exploring Arizona in the heat, ice cream was exactly what we needed. Churn was the perfect way to cool down and end our day on a sweet note!

What a great custom menu with lots of creative choices for ice-cream, ice-cream sandwiches, shake and floats, coffee and coffee desserts. Custom rotating flavors that we tried and sampled as we decided. Love how there's a secret back entrance to the ice cream parlor from Windsor Cocktail Bar next door. This is part of a cluster of good restaurants of different types along Central Avenue in Uptown. Parking available right in front of the entrance as well as around back in a private parking lot. I was so tempted by several items on the menu, but since I had just had a large lunch, I chose to try a single scoop of the Vietnamese coffee ice cream. So delicious and I loved the tiny specks of coffee. Hubs got a double scoop of strawberry ice cream, and my son got a strawberry shake. We all really enjoyed the interior and decor of the ice cream shop and the high-quality and good flavors of the ice cream. Service is really great here. The ladies were really working hard and going as fast as they could, and it didn't look easy scooping the large scoops of frozen hard ice cream. Upon our arrival, we were accommodated immediately and seated without any delay. The parlor features a wonderful, nostalgic aesthetic reminiscent of the late 1900s. Its menu is remarkably expansive, offering an impressive variety of options that goes well beyond what one might typically expect from a traditional dessert establishment. The service we received was patient and polite. While one of our table's orders was initially overlooked, the staff corrected the mistake instantly as soon as we brought it to our server's attention. As the name implies, the menu leans heavily into decadent, sweet treats; those looking for lighter or tart options like yogurt variations will find limited choices, but the indulgent selections are perfect for traditional dessert lovers. The surrounding neighborhood adds significantly to the appeal, offering an excellent Old Town atmosphere filled with art galleries, historic shops, and artifacts. If you are visiting the nearby Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA), enjoying dinner in the area, or simply taking an evening walk, I highly recommend stopping by the Sugar Bowl for its unique historical charm and experience.

I considered several options in Phoenix area to review, but I decided to go with the iconic Sugar Bowl in Old Town Scottsdale. It's been in business since the 1950's and has been a staple for 7 decades in Old Town. The inside is 1890's decor of pink & white wallpaper/decor like an old fashioned ice cream parlor. They have a bar area and standard seating. I remember I first went here when I was in high school in late 90's/early 2000's. Ice cream was always top notch. I used to get the Buster Brownie, which was this big brownie sundae with vanilla ice cream, goeey marshmallow topping, whipped cream, & cherry on top. It was awesome! I loved that way back then. I got lunch there once or twice; pretty good sandwiches, but the real highlight is the ice cream. My most recent visit was in Jan. 2022 with my dad. We decided to pop in for ice cream. It was as delicious as I remembered.
