We chose to Jellyfish for dinner based on good Yelp reviews that included excellent service. We were misinformed. We got off to a bad start. When we walked up to the greeter she asked, "what do you want." I looked around to see if she was talking to someone else. There was no one else. And then I thought maybe she confused me for someone she knew. That was not the case either. I said, "This is a restaurant, isn't it?" And then my husband tried to defuse the tension by making a joke about turtles eating jellyfish. It was all just awkward and weird, but she was just the greeter, and we sat and ordered drinks and a pre-dinner appetizer. The waiter was not a particularly happy person either, so after the app, we paid our bill and went to another restaurant for dinner. Every place can have a bad day, and when staff is fighting with each other they can take it out on everyone else, but OMG, the service we received here was awful. P.S. It's expensive here and the food is not nearly as good as I expected. It's not necessarily bad, but for the price it's disappointing. Got the scallops as a starter and they are very small - it's mostly a giant empty plate with sauce decoration. The barramundi was okay but there is better barramundi for much less. The fries were very ordinary. The kale salad was the best thing but for how much we paid for this meal, it's not good that the salad was the highlight. read more

Jelly Fish makes a big splash! The last visit to Jellyfish was about 18 months ago and I just thought it was over priced fish and chips.... However.... This visit was Great!!! Entrée: Oysters with a light french cider vinegar, red onion/shallot and lime - Wow they were delicious. Soooo fresh and lovely! Presentation was impressive, with deep fried pasta sticks under the oysters, simple but effective. Main: King Fish cooked 2 ways. One half was deep fried with an asian salad of cucumber, carrot and asian dressing. The other half was the fillet with coconut dressing. More dressing and this dish would have been perfect! Extras: No side dishes required with this dish as it is quite a big serve, plus its own salad. Make sure you ask that question. The 2 side dishes of gnocchi and pumpkin were both fairly ordinary and were not eaten. Desert: Panna Cotta. Wow a taste sensation! Not usually a fan of this dish. But got to give credit where it's due, this one was yum! Presentation was also pretty cool with grilled peaches and crushed sugar crusted violet flowers on the side.... they taste a bit like old fashioned popcorn :) It is expensive so choose wisely, you might be surprised :) read more

The mint yogurt was a perfect combo for the fish; but it was basically good yogurt dip and I did not taste much mint in it all. I had a tomato, mozzarella and pistachio pesto ...great dish, however, they either ran out of cherry tomatoes or skimped on it and cut up a regular tomato amidst the cherry tomatoes. We came to Jellyfish while on vacation in Brisbane...and it was absolutely delicious. One of the best dining out experiences I have had in a very long time. Every single dish we had was fantastic. We ordered 5-8 items. The charred octopus salad was among my favorites, as were the oysters, the pork belly - literally all of it was well seasoned and delicious. As you walk along the boardwalk overlooking Brisbane River, it's hard to resist stopping by Jellyfish, whether for drinks or an intimate dinner for two. Its cool name is accentuated by the innovative jellyfish lights complete with trailing tentacles bobbing in the bar area. The prices are expensive but this is one of those places where the food quality is worth the premium price. I've been to Jellyfish several times. On the first occasion my seafood shabu-shabu for one blew me out of the water. The soup stock was liquid gold and my only complaint was that I wanted more vermicelli noodles. On another occasion, my partner found the grilled fish only 'above average' which isn't a bad thing; only for their premium prices we expected perfection. Also, it's probably better to hold off on dinner reservations until 7:30 or later on a Friday or Saturday night if you're not starving. The restaurant was packed like sardines. This place is not only beautiful, the food is incredible! I ordered the Morton Bay Bugs, biggest I've seen, very juicy too. My guests ordered fish from their fresh catch menu. All was wonderful. Jellyfish is the type of fancy restaurant that a struggling writer/student does not really get the chance to go to. However, for my birthday, my best friend and I put on our finest clothes and jewelry and ventured into Jellyfish. The wait staff there are amazing and friendly and saw through our ruse to try and be sophisticated straight away. Nevertheless, they were happy for our patronage and helped us through the dining etiquette that I had never had the pleasure of learning before. The place is lovely and not all so fancy to be off putting or anything. We felt quite at home and comfortable very quickly. If I had the money, I could very well get used to eating here. I had the soft soft shell crab which was amazing, and for desert a flaming creme brule that was just to die for! Finally got see what all of the rave is about! Jellyfish is a lovely upscale restaurant with a robust wine selection and fresh seafood. The service is top notch and the food is delicious, as you would expect. Everything we ordered was good, especially the oysters which we agreed were the best we have had in Brisbane. I have to say the fish mains that we ordered were pretty standard, not out of this world but good so there is room to really impress me there:) It is a perfect spot to celebrate a special evening or host some visitors who have an appreciation for fine dining, seafood and will enjoy a stunning view of the river and story bridge while you dine. read more

This is quite a posh (but non-snobby) dining establishment which offers varying seafood options. The waitstaff are able to list suggested sides and wines to go with the dish. I've seen a bachelorette party have their meal here (looked like they made reservations ahead of time as their table was set up), so it seems a suitable classy restaurant. Horrible experience, asked to be seated at the bar because their restaurant was "full". Sat for half an hour with no drink service. Waited 40 mins, didn't get served, so walked up to ask for our order. Then got sent to the bar - which is fine. However, after ordering 4 mains and entrees, we then sat for an hour. Didn't get any food, went and asked where it was... they had clearly forgotten our food, long story short, after waiting an hour and a half, we got 3 out of four meals, they then had the audacity to ask if we still wanted our 4th meal. My friend big chef recommended this restaurant 5 years ago when I came for a visit and it was amazing. We are back to Brisbane and came straight away to Jellyfish. I had one of the most average meal in my life. Main meal was too salty when we sent john dorhy back they brought even more salty one. Mash potato was cold after one minute. All appetizers were below average with no flavor. I didn't enjoy shrimps with avocado it was very plain. 3 scallops were just ok but not worth ordering. Battered great emperor was good. It's so not worth 260 usd!!! It's unbelievable that we had to still pay this money for a damaged bad experience. In Australia nobody care about customers service and it's so far away from the fine dining American standards. Overpriced food for people who doesn't know a quality food. Our Italian waiter was great and very apologetic. French manager was apologetic too. He offered us free desserts which were very average. This was the worst dining experience I've ever experienced. Firstly, 15 minutes to order is very long in a so called fine dining experience. Entree +15 minutes for a tuna tartare from the fridge. Then waited an hour for our main to arrive. Was told rudely by the manager that it's because "we start your main after your entrees". I can't believe that it would then take 35 minutes to cook a fish (poorly, see photo). Then told that our dining experience was "industry standard". Well it wasn't in my experience, so you telling me rudely and repeatedly it is normal doesn't help. The right actions were "we're sorry, we forgot your order. We're making it as fast as we can now, your $10 salad (iceberg lettuce with tiny bits of bacon and mayonnaise) is on the house" or something to that effect. We should have left when we wanted to rather than sit back down to eat the terrible soggy fish with no taste and no texture. Maybe your Thursday night dinner experience will be better, but for $125 don't bother with this place. Worst is that it was very good many years ago when I came last (2010). Definitely downhill since then. The worst part of this story is that their front of house manager (tall big white guy) refused to agree that it had been a clearly long time for us to get our food. Even after posting a review on google they claimed they gave us a complimentary amuse bouche, which is an outright lie unless amuse bouche's include tap water. They didn't realise that their POS didn't take into account the fact that we sat down at a different table in the beginning but because of rain (no-one's fault there) we had to move tables. If you look at google reviews, you'll see that many of the latest reviews are 1 star because of this rude manager (may even be the owner!) and that most think the food is overpriced for what you get (and they're right, it is). read more

Jellyfish is yet another premier Brisbane restaurant where it's menu prices match the food you'll be eating. At one of the best locations in Brisbane down on Eagle St Pier, be prepared for some incredible and very fresh seafood. The menu is subject to change to reflect what they can get in the freshest, we had flathead and whiting fillets with a few sides. It was a great experience to be in such a fantastically run restaurant. The décor is very modern, white table cloths, walls and ceiling with some very professional wait-staff walking around in matching uniforms. The normal clientele are wealthy businessmen and women, filling the place for lunch over some very expensive wine. If you're looking to impress someone with your knowledge of Brisbane's nicer places to eat then give this restaurant a go. Definitely ring ahead first to book if your planning on going at a busier time. read more

I felt that I had to comment on this restaurant. Jellyfish offers a nice place to eat with a wonderful view and serves well prepared fish dishes. However, this is not a 'fine dining' restaurant although pricing would indicate that it is. Everything is geared to bump up pricing. If you order oysters ($35) you get 8 which is not enough to share and pushes you to order two serves. $70 for oysters for two is excessive by any standard. We enjoyed our fish main courses here but will not return as we can eat much better elsewhere for a similar cost. This is a shame as they are good at what they do but my advice it to eat elsewhere and get better value for money. A 4 star experience but one lost due to pricing. read more

5 meals only 2 were good enough for a restaurant asking these prices, the sashimi entrée and the spangled emperor. As for the others, verdict - disappointing. The whole bbq jewfish was delicate and lovely, however it came with carrots so hard the knife couldn't slice through them and my teeth said no thanks, and an odd sauce that didn't mean anything anywhere. Top restaurants are supposed to be able to do great sauces, right? $50+ for that choice was too much. Three plates came with a handful of bean sprouts and tomatoes -lazy? Lacklustre. Ocean trout was too close to well done and the poor dory had a Michelin-man thick tempura batter that made you feel sorry for it and disappointed in the harsh mouthfeel. Another $50+ . The beer-batter on the goldband snapper was very dark and unappealing. I'd not recommend as good value for money or great kitchen accomplishment. read more

This restaurant is superb. The meals are absolutely amazing. The seafood is so fresh. The morten bay bugs were delicious. The view of the river and story bridge is spectacular. The meals are all expensive but worth it for a special night out. I cannot wait to go back so will take my wife for her birthday. I think it's the best seafood restaurant in Brisbane. Jellyfish is one of our go to restaurants but we were very disappointed last night. Staff seemed preoccupied and we had to ask for water which was not topped up until right at the end. I had the whiting. 3 pretty tasteless pieces with a blob of mayonnaise and nothing else and we had to order sides separately. Cost 46 bucks. Partner had bugs. Plenty of them but just stacked up like logs in a pool of tasteless sauce (still not sure what it was supposed to be). We've had some great meals here and never had a complaint about the food, cost or service before. I'm afraid we have all three this time. Disappointed. read more

6 of us dined at Jellyfish last night. As usual the food was amazing even though it is very expensive and I feel overpriced. Of course the restaurant's location is stunning. I was very disappointed with the service. Granted it was a very busy Friday night and each waiter who attended our table was very friendly. It was an extremely hot night yet the waiter did not leave a water bottle so we could refill our water glasses and he obviously did not have time to constantly refill these. 5 of us had the "baby barramundi" which is a fabulous dish but quite messy to extract all the flesh - use of one's fingers was essential. I had to ask for some water to clean my hands. Just one bowl came for the table even though I said the others would want the same. Some training for staff to anticipate these needs would help. read more

I am a regular at Jellyfish and up until Saturday night it has never disappointed. Unfortunately I found a shell in my prawn dish and my husband had scales left on his fish. We politely told the waiter who didn't seem to care, nor did he do anything about it. As we were leaving and paying I let the person at the counter know about my experience- he sent his manager over to speak to us. The manager (Brendan) showed no remorse and went so far as to say: "Its a seafood restaurant, what do you expect". He then proceeded to tell us that he was not going to do anything about it and basically we had to get over it. In the end he took $15 off our bill - bit disappointing when most mains are between $40- $50. We thought we were doing the right thing by bringing this to their attention - apparently not. For my Dad's 70th I chose this seafood restaurant, as Dad loves his seafood. I would suggest the entrees are overpriced. The sardines were very nice apparently, I had the sushimi which was delightful. 2 ordered steak at a seafood restaurant...what do you do??? Our server was great, discrete with birthday related questions, very prompt drink service. An extensive wine list, with some modern choices. We went with the GSM, unfortunately another group ordered the last bottles so we went with another vineyards option and it delightful, Kaesler Avignon, much smoother. We brought our own cake so no one actually saw the dessert menu so I can't comment there. The ice cream served with the cake tasted a bit like iced cream, I had hoped for vanilla bean...but no such luck. The fish menu looked quite nice and a few us had the barramundi, which had a slightly floury texture, possibly due to freezing??? Eat the skin early, it gets tough. The side were yummy especially the Asian greens and the salad had a delightful fetta like dressing. There are no childrens options. I have a positive feeling from the night and I'd like to go back, the spaghettini looked devine!! The riverside location is lovely, even on a rainy night. read more
