I bought a whole house full of Jeld-wen windows and doors for a brand new construction. Half the windows which Jeld-wen installed didn't work. For months after initial installation, techs had to keep coming back to correct the faulty installations and faulty products. It's been 6 months now and I'm still waiting for Jeld-wen to replace the defective sliding glass door they installed. Today, a Jeld-wen tech came by appointment to install the new door. He showed up and didn't even bring the door with him. The Jeld-wen tech left to go look for the door. I have no idea how long I'm supposed to wait for this guy. INCOMPETENT. POOR QUALITY POOR INSTALLATION POOR SERVICE I should have insisted on Pollard or Anderson products in my construction. Big mistake going with Jeld-wen. UPDATE: Weeks after writing this review, the 6 month old issue with the sliding glass door has finally been resolved. I expect brand new windows and doors to work flawlessly on day 1. Impact windows have been clouding over shortly after installation. I have paid more money in having replacements re-installed than I did on original purchase. (warranty does not cover installation). Now, they're gleefully informing me the warranty for impact windows is 10 years but they'll gladly sell me some new replacements for 20k. (which also does not cover installation). So.....now looking at having to replace every window in our house with another brand. Probably should have done that with the first failures rather than hoping they would address their quality issues. So much money flushed down the toilet. Beware. Do NOT use Jeld Wen windows. We built a beautiful home (8 yrs ago) & chose this manufacturer b/c they're supposed to be one of the best & have a lifetime warranty. It is NOT true!!! I have been trying to file a claim/case for at least 2 yrs & couldn't get ahold of anyone. Finally did, after spending 6 hrs inputting all the photos (89 windows) & info, they said this isn't a warranty issue. There is bad mold all around the windows (pics attached) and we have already had them cleaned, scraped & repainted twice. Jeld Wen basically said 'not our problem' & sent us info on mold ‍. These windows were very expensive ($86,000), remember 89 of them & even with their "lifetime warranty" & this issue from the 1st month after install they won't & don't stand up for their product. WOW!!! First time to check out reviews on yelp* No surprise... I got a $2500 pile of firewood covering the front opening to my house. Bought lovely knotty alder with speakeasy doors... Six months, it's cracked and split and needless to say ugly and nearly useless... It will keep rabbits and sparrows out... I think. They sent a guy out to cover their butt... Report comes back... damage was due to exposure to the elements... Where did they think I was going to put an exterior door? Obviously needed to cure more or something, I don't know... If I could make a door I wouldn't have been suckered in. If you read this and the other reviews and still patronize this shabby unscrupulous company (despite all their advertising to the contrary) it's your own fault. Horrible support from Jeld Wen Spent thousands of dollars of doors. 2 1/2 years later, the hinges are covered with rust. I don't live near water (I'm in downtown Orlando). When I called Jeld Wen, they said they don't cover the hinges. I asked if their hinges normally last on a few years. The Jeld Wen rep said that's not usual, but they won't cover the rusted hinges. I will have to pay someone to come out, remove the door, install new hinges (that I bought) and re-hang the door. I thought Jeld Wen was a good company. I was wrong. Jeld-Wen's service department is amazingly subpar. They have grown over the years, acquiring other companies, supplying big box stores, etc. and have gotten too big for their britches. The service department is staffed (or understaffed) by incompetent managers. I bought an expensive door that had some defects and they fumbled the ball all along the way; from forgetting to place the parts-order, to delays in receiving the parts, to delays in getting a tech out to install the new parts. The icing on the cake is their flippant attitude. They just weren't interested in resolving the issue in any timely manner. It took... get this... THREE months to resolve the issue. Steer clear of Jeld-Wen. Too many other companies out their that would actually appreciate your business. UPDATE: After only a year and a half, the screens are rotting! I kid you not. (And they are not the type you can unscrew and take to the hardware store. They have to be repaired on-site. Brilliant design!) No response from customer service. Go figure. read more

We ordered a Jeld-Wen fiberglass (wood look) entry door and two sidelights from Viking Doors in San Jose, CA for $8000 last summer. My contractor wasn't ready to install it when it arrived (assembled), and it took him about 4 or 5 weeks to get around to it. After he installed it I noticed that the exterior main door was delaminating around the molding in a large area. It is very obvious. Also there was an open slit about 1/2 cm wide and 4 cm long on the inside side light. I called Viking and kept leaving messages for customer service. Finally after about 4 tries I talked to Ray Loftin. He said someone would meet with me. Bob Tobiason from Jeld Wen came out. He was sooooo pleasant. His words... "this is awful. we'll get you a new door." He took photos. Where the slit was he popped off part of the fiberglass "to get a better picture". Five weeks later and no door. I called Ray and he said that the claim was denied, on recommendation from Bob T. Strange that no one bothered to call me or send me a letter. Jeld-Wen would not let me see Bob's report, but said that we were past the warranty date and the damage appeared to be caused during installation. I argued that there was a one year warranty, but they pointed to fine print which said you need to inspect the door within one week and report damage. Since Viking had assembled the framework, it should have been checked by Viking. Bob T. (not so nice this time) came out again. Turns out he is a salesman, not quality assurance or customer support. He denied having popped off the fiberglass inside & said that my contractor had done the damage to the outside. If you could see how it is flaking off you would wonder what an installer would have to do to a door to cause that type of delamination. Finally I accepted their offer to replace the sidelight and repair the delamination. A month went by and I sent an email to Ray L. and heard from the repair people the next day. He said that they couldn't get in touch with me for a month because he had inadvertently given them the wrong phone number. The repair people called me and set up dates within one week to complete the repairs. I don't know why, but I was surprised to see that the shipping containers were clearly marked "Made in Mexico". I ordered a Jeld-Wen single door with two sidelites to replace my sliding glass door through Home Depot. The door was not manufactured correctly when it was delivered. Unfortunately the sliding door was already removed and the HD installers could not put it back in. I paid extra to have the door painted with different colors on the outside and inside. Jeld-Wen had put the interior color on the outside so the colors didn't even match the middle door. How could they have not noticed the middle door color didn't match the sidelites?? Also the middle door was hung incorrectly so that the door does not meet the weather stripping allowing air to flow in. The warranty people were called by HD and by me and it took them a week to call me back. When they did, they said the installers would be calling me to set up a time, which took another week for them to call me back. The 'repair' time is now set up for a month from now. Meanwhile, the temperatures here in Mesa are reaching 120 degrees and I have a door that is not completely installed. I will never order Jeld-Wen products again based on the poor quality and warranty delay in fixing the door. My suggestion is that you really inspect the doors before you have them installed and make sure your installers don't remove the existing doors until they are thoroughly examined. read more

They had to be special ordered because of size constraints in our remodel. I live near the coast and we get high winds, heavy rain and lots of humidity and sunshine in the summer - the Lowes manager recommended fiberglass. We had the first 2 installed and decided to order another two the same color. They take about 4 weeks to make and deliver them. Lowes called back and said that Jeld-Wen no longer makes them in brown (wood look) so we settled for unfinished and we'd have to stain them ourselves. Bummer! Our builder tore out the walls and installed the second set of two doors. I took him around to look at the seals on the first set he installed and he noticed that all 4 doors of the first two sets of swinging patio doors were water damaged (it had rained that night for the first time in a while). The lower foot of each door (we have wide overhanging eaves) was swelled and distorted. We couldn't even open one of them; it was swelled up so bad. The thin veneer of fiberglass was peeling away from the cardboard or pressboard core. Every door - first rain! Did I buy interior doors by mistake? No. Double pane glass; deadbolt locks. These were supposed to be exterior doors. I had better quality doors on the closets in my travel trailer. My builder pointed out that the fiberglass cladding did not extend around the edges of the doors. The water was getting into the cores and making mush out of the paper inside. Was this a manufacturing error or a design problem? We checked the two new sets of doors - same construction; same design. These were two separate batches built the same way - this was a design problem. I thought, this company is selling these doors all over the country. First time they get rained on everyone will be sending them back. I'd better get these things replaced or my money back quick before Jeld-Wen goes under. I called Lowes and they assured me they would take care of me. I know they will. I emailed them pictures of the damaged doors and went around to the store and showed them the design problem on doors they had in stock. Lowes said they couldn't do anything until a 3rd party inspector looked at them. Two weeks later an inspector showed up from Georgia - he had a VA appointment in Charleston so thought he would stop by on his way through. He took pictures and listened to my complaint about the design flaw. I told him, as I told Lowes, I don't want these doors to be replaced again with the same faulty design - I will pay extra and get real doors if they take these crappy ones back. 4 weeks later - I call and call and call and finally get the phone number for Jeld-Wen Customer Service in Iowa. The lady was great - she read me out the notes from the inspector and - whoa! They're only going to replace the two damaged doors! The ones that are the right color. Not acceptable! I called Lowes management and told them you deal with Jeld-Wen. I'm coming in to your store and I will pick out quality doors and pay you the difference in price - you install them. We ordered pre-finished bifold doors thru Lowes. It was delivered and our contractor installed it. Only when it was installed that we realized it was not pre-finished. Lowes delivered the wrong door. We went they lowes to see if we can get the right doors. They sent us to Jeld-wen. After 2 weeks of phone tag, Jeld-wen offered us $85. We said no because it cost us more to hire a contractor to install it. They then offered new doors. Again, we would have to spend more money to hire a contractor. Besides, we don't need another set of bifold doors. I asked if they can send a smaller door. They said no. We eventually took the $85 and cut our losses. Jeld-Wen was sold to us as the "Rolls Royce" of entry doors. It is anything but, more like the Kia or golf cart. Let's start with the construction--it slid so poorly after installing that a team of experts had to come out and fix it. From the other reviews, this is a common problem with Jeld-Wen. Then let's talk about the color. We ordered Sage Brown, and got more of a "Sage-Purple." When we tried to talk to "customer service," (and that term is in quotes because they were so off-putting they made our stomachs turn), they decided in a condescending and dismissive manner that "this is not a warranty problem, so good luck with that." Then they tried to blame us and/or the company we ordered from, who is very sorry, but powerless to address what is clearly a Jeld-Wen problem. Oh how we wish we would have read the myriad of bad reviews before spending $ thousands on this project in which we are now embarrassed to have as the gateway to our home. If their customer disservice department even pretended to care or have any empathy, we would have felt better. Terrible product and even worse customer service. Clearly management is not paying attention to the terrible reviews that Jeld-wen products and service has received. This speaks volumes about the company as a whole. I have advised the agent I purchased the doors from not sell the Jeld-wen product to other consumers. In short the screen doors came damaged. Replacement doors took 8 weeks to schedule and arrived damaged. No rush was placed on the second set of doors and took an additional 8 weeks to arrive. Later the door handle continued to fall off the door. Three service calls were required to reinstall an new locking mechanism and door handle. The installation person was careless and did not test the door lock requiring the three visits to correct the problem. Five separate phone calls on hold for 20- 30 minutes to speak with customer service to ultimately be schedule for the final service call one month later. All this time I could not use the door to the house. STAY AWAY FROM JELD-WEN. I Bought 2 very expensive JELD-WEN front doors 3 years ago. There is only a 1 year warranty on the Mull Posts. This is ridiculous. after spending 20K and they will not stand behind their doors. I'm not sure where to start. I purchased a large door for my pool house and they were absolutely disrespectful to me as a customer: 1.- They canceled and reschedule the delivery x 4 times. (it took about 6 solid months before I saw the door ($4,600 sliding doors) 2.- They damaged the frame when they delivered it. Jeld-Wen promised they would fix it, so I received the item. 3.- The sliding panels kept coming apart, they sent technicians to fix it, but some parts of the panels kept falling off. They sent their technicians 3 times and when I asked them questions they were rude and didn't want to tell me what was wrong with the door. 4.-After many phone calls and me getting angry they sent a supervisor, which agreed that the panels were bowing and they needed to be replaced. Then covid-19 hit our country and they pretty much forgot about me and their defective door. 5.- I was swimming today when I notice a crack line on one panel and in a matter of minutes the whole glass looked like crocodile skin. I ran and put some tape on the glass to protect the floor. In 2013 I ordered two sets of double glass doors to exit from my house to my patio. I was told by Home Depot, where I ordered the doors, that there was a lifetime warranty on the custom doors. I recently noticed that the metal wheels on the bottom of each screen door rusted and rusted so badly that it ate holes in the vinyl frame. I placed a warranty claim through Home Depot with Jeld-Wen. I just heard from Jeld-Wen customer service. The screen doors do not come with a lifetime warranty. The sliding glass doors do, but the screen doors do not. I was told Jeld-Wen would gladly send me replacement doors if I want to pay full retail. I asked the customer service rep why I would reward Jeld-Wen with additional business when their current product totally rusted out. Recently bought a $50.00 replacement, sliding screen door for a Pella sliding patio door (design-wise, it "fit"). Like everything else purchased at Lowes, I SHOULD have torn the packaging open there, in the store ... Ready to engage in the 5 minute task of changing the doors I opened the "Jeld-Wen" I'd just brought home - - The frame was 'flimsy' at best. - The screen was loose in the frame (not 'taut' at ANY point). - The screen actually had "waves" in it. - The ribbing was sloppy and protruding out of the grooves in several places. - EXTERNAL adjustments for the 2, top rollers protruding from the top of the frame on the inside. - NO adjustment for the 2, bottom rollers. This thing wasn't worthy of the 5 mile trip to the dump with the rest of the trash. It was however worthy of the 16 mile drive back to Lowes to recover my $50.00 and make certain I keep a watchful eye in the future to avoid ANYthing that has the words, "Jeld-Wen" on it. I purchased a Jeld Wen door through Lowe's. Lowe's installed it. The door was about 5 years old when I noticed styrofoam on the floor by the door. Close inspection revealed that the outer skin had separated from the door itself, leaving the styrofoam "innards" exposed. Every time the door closed, little balls of styrofoam would escape. Jeld-Wen was extremely unhelpful. I sent everything they asked for except I couldn't locate my receipt. Even though they knew when the door was manufactured, they refused to repair their product. Bought their 4 panel door with fan window recently. We do like the looks of the door so far (about 3 weeks installed now). But heres where the problems came up. Upon removing door from carton, found a few nicks as well as 4 or 5 stickers attached to the window. So I contacted HomeDepot where I bought the door from. The nicks we're remedied with some touch-up paint supplied by JW. As for the stickers, When I pealed them off, it was obvious one was put on the glass pane BEFORE the arched frame was applied! This means you can see the corner of the sticker thru the glass, but cannot remove it! I call HD back, who had JW contact me on how to remedy this visual problem. JW left me a message to contact them. HERE's the next problem that followed. My first call to JW resulted in several transfers followed up by a disconnect. My second call to JW resulted in a recording that said it'd be 2 minutes to wait or I could leave a "callback" number. After 15 minutes I left my number. Which of course, they never called back. My third call to JW resulted in me explaining what had occurred to Shella, her (non-apologetically) putting me on hold and NOT picking back up after a good 20 minutes, my call going to a recording stating I had a 2 minute wait time, followed by a new message stating I had a 10 minute time, followed by another stating I had a 15 minute wait time. I left a callback number, and as of this time I have yet to get a callback. Needless to say, if they ever ask me to buy any of their products in the future, I'm gonna put they on hold ;-) read more

Quick & Dirty.Ordered two sets of French doors from Jeld-Wen through Lowes back in December of 2017.Doors were to arrive in six weeks from order.Well doors got pushed out six different times because of parts and arrived in March of 2018.When doors arrived they were damaged & cracked in six places and was wrong size.Second set of doors were ordered to arrive in three weeks but did not arrive until five weeks had no screens and upon inspection by me had the same cracks that the first set had. From talking with several other customers & employees in the store over time this is a comment issue when dealing with Jeld-Wen.There customer assistance Department also no help. Beautiful product but there quality assurance inspection of product before it's delivered sucks. I would say choose another company before choosing Jeld-Wen. read more

I wish I would have read the reviews first. I bought an expensive custom exterior patio door. When doing new construction the doors and windows go in last so...... We installed the Jeld-Wen door and it cut crooked. The doors hit at the bottom and have a large gap at the top. I have spoken to 7 different people at Jeld-Wen and all I get is the run-a-round (no action). I guess I'm going to have to build over them because I have framers and Sheetrock people that want to finish and get paid. NOBODY CARES AT JELD-WEN !!!!!! read more

The quality of my French doors was outright defective, and they had to be remade. The screens took months and 3 tries to make correct. The brick mould was warped. They told me to buy it and they'd reimburse me. I took my chances and am now fighting for the total that I paid. It was their screwup, but they're trying to short me and rip me off. They sent me a check for less than I paid. I sent it back. I have a complaint into the BBB and the company rep is telling me too bad. What poor customer service. I'm not going to eat their mistake. I recently had a break-in and as a result, I'm very disappointed with Jeld Wen's fiberglass door. At the time it was installed, I was assured that the fiberglass was better than the steel because it could withstand impacts and not dent as steel could. That said, I selected the 32" x 80" 9-lite door. Appearance was excellent but as mentioned, a criminal kicked the door which caused the door to crack and unfortunately, the wood frame where the locks (2) engaged, split and broke apart at the two joints where the wood was assembled to make up the frame (or jam). There is a very thin metal plate on the back side where the dead bolt was supposed to engage into but that piece is so flimsy that it deformed and didn't do what it probably was intended to do. Had the plate been better quality (thicker & harder) and spanded a larger area, it may have done its job and not result in failure. Instead, the wood (soft pine) split apart and the door swung open allowing the burglary to occur. I called Jeld Wen to inquire about its warranty and was told to contact my home-owners insurance regarding the matter. But in reality, the door failed and the construction is poor using poor quality materials and poor design. That said, I now have to replace the door (and repair the surrounding area) and decided to select a better door. This time I doubt it will be a Jeld Wen door and having read other reviews on this site, I will not consider Jeld Wen windows for future plans nor would I suggest to family, friends and neighbors to consider Jeld Wen products. read more

Wish I would have read the reviews first. Purchased out exterior door with sidelites in 2017 from Home Depot, they finally arrived and were installed by Home Depot in January 2018. In August of 2018 we noticed that the door was peeling (not the paint the actual top layer was splitting) Contacted Home Depot and after a few months finally got Jeld-Wen to replace the door, and Home Depot agreed to install it and fix the trim. In January 2019 the door finally arrived and the installer came to install it except he was not aware of the damaged trim that needed to be fixed/replaced. So he returned the door to Home Depot so that he would fix all of the issues at once. Did not hear back from Home Depot so I contacted them to find out when the door will be installed, they never called back until I contacted corporate. Finally they agreed once again to replace the door and fix the trim. After 2 weeks not hearing when it will be installed I was then informed that the originally door was damaged and that they had to order another one which will take 4-6 weeks. After 6 weeks contacted Home Depot again and they stated that the door was finally in. The installer came, except the door does not fit, it is really hard to open and close the door. This will result in the trim being worn down and most likely the door will tear again. Also the door was originally purchase pre-finished the one that they sent was not. Seems like this company has some issues that I was (un)fortunate to discover. We ordered a custom french patio door from HD for a kitchen remod. Since we needed a custom door to fit our 1850 farmhouse, we went with the recommendation of a contractor and the guy at HD. Felt confident the door would arrive on time and in the correct dimensions. We test fit the door and it was sized correctly! However when we attempted to install the lock hardware we noticed the holes were not drilled correctly, leaving a gap. Adjusted the lock as far as it would go and it would not cover the gap. Also noticed that the astrigal (part between the two doors) was not cut to the right length, leaving a gap at the bottom of the door. This part also had a torn weatherstrip. I provided Jeld Wen with pictures so they can see this issues. The customer service people were attentive and nice and made me feel that it was going to get resolved. We had to wait a few weeks for the repair to be scheduled. The guy arrives and I show him the door and he immediately has attitude and tells me he can fix the gap in the door by the lock. I assured him the adjustments were all the way out. I also told him I did not want a crappy repair, but the door replaced as was agreed upon. Next he takes the astrigal out of the truck and it was for a standard 80" door, not the custom door we ordered. First doesn't Jeld Wen have the specs based on the our order number to give them the right specs on the size of the door? And the repair guy, as happens all the time, passes the blame on the person that shipped him the parts. No initiative to check it BEFORE he came out! He also asked me if I wanted the center part to go all the down? WHAT?? You are the repair guy and you ask me! What a joke. Now I have to wait again to maybe get the right part and then have attitude boy come out and do the repair. Also due to the holidays, I might not see the repair til next year!!! Never again. I should have paid more attention to the reviews. read more

I just spent 35 minutes on the phone trying to replace a screen for a Jeldwen window. I was put on hold 4 times to replace a screen. I'd hate to have a a real problem with their windows that needed fixed. read more

We custom-ordered pre-hung, split-jam doors by Jeld-Wen. The finish trim was made of such low quality materials, and was so poorly assembled (the heads of the staples attaching the trim to the jam were literally exposed above the surface of the trim) that we ended pulling off the trim that was included with the door and replaced it with trim purchased at Menard's. Extremely disappointed that we had literally pay for two sets of trim to make this product look acceptable. And it was delivered a week later than what we were originally told by Home Depot. I won't purchase Jeld-Wen products in the future if I have any other options available. read more

Without a doubt the most defective windows available in the residential market. The insulation between the panes on almost every window and door has failed resulting in the fogging and moisture accumulation. At first, customer service was cooperative. Then abruptly, the service representative stopped answering her phone, returning my calls and responding to my email messages. That has been the situation for two months. Efforts to reach a supervisor were equally fruitless. read more
