The person in the store who helped us took a while ironing the patches on my child's shirt. She then gave us the rhinestones to "bedazzle" the shirt. While we were adding the rhinestones, we noticed yellow patches around all the ironed patches. When we asked her, she asked us to cover this with some rhinestones. We didn't want to add so many rhinestones and told her the same. She then said it's closing time and we could come back another day and start over. It's the attitude of the employee that bothered me the most. She knew about the yellow patches (probably why it took her so long to iron the patches on) and instead of fixing the issue, handed us the shirt anyways. We spent so long decorating it before noticing the yellow patches and when we pointed it out, instead of being surprised or apologetic, she had a solution all ready for us. I did not want to buy a ruined shirt and pay full price for it, so I left it there. My child though, young and not always logical, was inconsolable as all her other friends had their shirts.

This was her first production outside of middle school, and she absolutely loved everything about the experience -- the directors, the supportive and welcoming environment, the incredible energy of ICDT!, and the kindness of the other students and families. We had explored other production programs before, but none felt as organized, communicative, or thoughtfully run as ICDT!. Their lead coach for the week was Shannon, aka Coach Marshmallow. The kids all really liked him, and he seemed very organized and totally engaged with the kids. The kids played all sorts of games and were always tired, but happy at the end of each day. Even with a slightly twisted ankle (no swelling), our 9yr didn't want to miss out and wanted to go to camp! They were very good about letting her sit out of a game if it was outside her comfort level. Surprisingly, their favorite game was Dodge Ball! There were 3 other coaches that the kids got to know, Coach Kit Kat, Coach Laser, and Coach Panther. My kids liked them all. I'm glad the kids had a very positive experience at this camp! I thought the emails from "Team Snap" were a little excessive. It wanted me to verify the child's attendance for each day two days in advance. I'd be getting emails x 3 and basically just ignored everything once I signed the waivers and read through the introduction email. Another minor grievance was the amount of astroturf that stuck to the kids' socks and ended up even in their lunch bags. This, of course, isn't any fault of Skyhawks, but I wanted to complain to somebody! LOL

However, I got on at midnight of the summer session sign ups for new customers and got both of my kiddos in. So besides that hurdle, we're a month in and my kids are hooked. My oldest hasn't been very interested in sports (and we have tried a lot over the years). Gymnastics was one she actually asked to do. She's building skills and gaining confidence. My youngest (we're in the parent participation class) loves it. I love being right there for her when she completes a new task. So much pride. Ms. Erika is fun and enthusiastic with the littles. I am extremely pleased by my children's progress in speaking and recognizing Chinese characters. I tried teaching Mandarin to my kids with the many resources available (YouTube, Books, etc), but it was difficult. I didn't know what I was doing, but at Happy Panda, the teachers are all very skilled. They knew what they were doing to teach my kids in a fun and engaging manner. In class, the teachers teach the kids how to read simple Chinese books. I'm sure the kids are just memorizing, but by doing the reading/repeating with a physical book, it seems to me that they are learning how to pronounce and recognize the words correctly. They sometimes do Chinese calligraphy, crafts (related to Chinese), and games to make learning Chinese fun. They also use white boards to write Chinese characters to practice writing. So far, my kids are excited to go to class everyday. They're eager to tell me what they can say in mandarin after class. I also love that I get to reinforce/review what was taught in class at home because of the resources Ms. Lin provides to the parent.
