I really wanted to love Jeff's Bagel Run, but after visiting, my reaction was simply... it's mid. Not terrible, not amazing--just so average that it's almost insulting considering how much people rave about it. The biggest disappointment is that Charleston still can't seem to produce a truly authentic New York-style bagel. A real New York bagel has a distinctive chew, a crisp exterior, and a depth of flavor that's hard to describe until you've had one. Jeff's gets close enough to remind you what you're missing, but never quite delivers that authentic experience. I understand their concept is grab-and-go, but it feels incomplete. There are no signature breakfast sandwiches or creative menu items that make you want to come back, and there's not even a place to sit and enjoy your food. It's essentially bagels, cream cheese, coffee, and out the door. That's fine if the bagel is unforgettable--but when it isn't, there's not much left to separate it from the competition. This visit also left me wondering why the Charleston area still doesn't have a destination-worthy Jewish deli or authentic New York-style bagel shop. After recently visiting an authentic bagel shop in Knoxville, I was reminded just how much we're missing. Charleston has an incredible food scene, yet somehow no one has truly nailed the classic New York bagel experience. Jeff's Bagel Run isn't bad--it just never rises above average. If you've never had a genuine New York-style bagel, you'll probably enjoy it. But if you have, you'll likely leave wishing Charleston finally had a place that gets it right. read more

Great customer service, clean atmosphere. A few small areas for seating. My main complaint would be that the bagel was cold. I didn't realize they don't serve them warm. Cinnamon sugar bagel - lightly coated, soft inside and chewy. Mine had remnants of everything bagel seasoning, which kind of tainted the cinnamon sugar flavor. Cream cheese - sold separately (~$2.50). The texture is more chunky than smooth. "Cookies and cream" flavor tasted like Oreo cheesecake. So good. Brown sugar cinnamon flavor was tasty as well. I wanted to try the two of their many flavors, so the gentleman who took my order offered to buy my second option. Very nice! The amount of cream cheese you receive is considerable so I wasted a good bit. If they could offer half the size of the "side" + complimentary with each bagel, that would be nice. The menu is digital and shows you what is hot now- get a hot bagel and some delish shmear and your morning is made! We got bacon and Swiss bagels, plain, Asiago everything, and cinnamon sugar bagels with an assortment of shmears. Crowd favorite was chive and onion! Very very good and chewy bagels. We will be back! Service was friendly and helpful. Also, there are cute little grab and go kits with capers, onion, lox, etc to build your own bagel. I will try this next time! read more

JBR has an interesting/unique approach; let the bagel stand on its own. Untoasted. Zero sandwich options. We were a little caught off guard, then ordered, and enjoyed our bagel. Both the (chewy) cinnamon raisin bagel and cream cheese were high quality and flavorful. Service is friendly and works well together. We completely understand the stand alone model because it keeps the line moving. It would be helpful to post a few ordering notes on the wall near the register. JBR is the first bagel shop we've been to that neither toasts nor makes sandwiches. If you're looking to grab a few bagels to go, bring home, then toast/prepare them, JBR is your place. read more

Grabbed my morning coffee @ Brown Fox and noticed they started serving Jeff's bagels! I ordered an everything bagel and tried the onion chive cream cheese. It was absolutely fantastic. Stopped into this bagel spot in Charleston, hoping for a quick breakfast win. The cinnamon raisin bagel actually slapped; soft, warm, and honestly one of the better bites I've had in town. The staff was pleasant too, even tossed me a free bagel like it was Oprah's Favorite Things, so no complaints there. But then the bill hit me like a plot twist. Five dollars for a plain bagel; absolutely wild. Then they hit me with $2.50 for butter, and the kicker? They don't even cut the thing or spread the butter. You're basically paying boutique pricing for DIY service. At that point I'm working harder than they are. Great bagel, friendly people, but the price-to-effort ratio is way off. Charleston has plenty of spots worth the money; this one needs to rethink the math before I'm back. read more

A great place for your morning bagel. The bagels are boiled and very soft. There is a huge selection of homemade cream cheese. All are delicious. This is a fab place to start your day Of note, when you order to go, the cream cheese comes separately to the bagel. I did not realize this, so I was unable to eat my bagel on my drive to work. Not an issue at all. Stop for a few moments and make sure you spread that delicious cream cheese on your bagel ! The staff are super friendly and welcoming. I even got to enjoy a sample of a new iced coffee. The place is small for customers to sit and dine in, however, it is cozy and comfortable, and the staff definitely make you feel welcome. JBR has great customer service and concept if you understand it before you go. They need to do a better job being upfront with cold bagels. Also, even though the cream cheese was delicious, we don't use a ton of cream cheese, so we could have shared one. One of our bagels was a plain bagel and served hot. The other one was an asiago (cold, cheese peeled, & uneaten. If we happen to return we would never order one of the cold bagels again and only order one cream cheese. I think the man at the register has some level of obligation to notify customers what they are purchasing (if they want repeat business). If that's not their intention, I better understand why they operate as they do. read more

Very happy with these bagels. They aren't sugary like some, and the texture is "bread-meaty". The cream cheese is the right idea, I think, but should probably be mixed for longer - it tastes like the included stuff with regular cream cheese - 2 very clear flavours. If they mix it for longer then the cream cheese will also taste like the actual flavour of what's with it as well. Other than that, pretty solid - I would say very good for Charleston SC. read more

I got the rosemary salt bagel with chive and onion cream cheese spread. It was truly delicious. That staff made everything quickly and they had a great system and flow. Very nice service. I did get the banana bread coffee and it was great but someone else may like it just wasn't for me. read more

The people are amazing here! I ran in to grab breakfast for a group, unfortunately they did not what I was looking for. While ordering I let them know I had specific orders and had to head out, they gave me my coffee anyways and offered bagel on the way out. I took it gratefully and ate in my car, THAT BAGEL BLEW MY SOCKS OFF! I don't know what I was given but it seemed to be an everything bagel that had cheese melted on the top, with a whipped onion spread on the side, ITS A MUST ORDER! i ordered a bagel on the app yesterday and my coworker went to pick it up. when she came back i noticed that i got cream cheese instead of butter. i called to see if i could come back and get butter instead. jay picked up the phone and apologized for what happened and offered to come drop the bagel and butter off to me at my work which is 15 minutes away from the store. i thought he went above and beyond for me, i never experienced customer service like that! thank you so much jay!!!! read more
