I had my dog's hip and patella X-rays done in Oct 2025 with Debra. The forms were completed and everything paid for. I called about once a week starting in Dec when the xrays had not been forwarded to OFA (orthopedic foundation for animals) and not posted to the OFA website. OFA reported that they had never received them. They take a message but never return your call. My girl is a champion and I need those xrays as part of her breed health testing. It is now almost May 2026 and they have never been completed and sent in. I would never recommend this vets office for these vital exams. I am planning to make a formal complaint. read more

I have used this place 3 times, but the last 2 times it been the same issue. The x-rays are not being sent it to OFA and SV as promised. it's been 2.5 months and x-rays are still not submitted. I called 2 weeks ago to ask why, and still no one has called me back, had to call again today and still no reason as to why. read more

My review is based on two months of treatment with constant visits to this facility; therefore, I am not basing this review on a sole incident but on a series of them. This place is absolutely amazing and here is why: My Mia (English Bulldog on my default picture), was saved by doctors and staff at Newport Beach after a horrific accident with a truck during Thanksgiving. After the tragedy, we took Mia to a hospital in St. Monica where she had her first surgery to repair her left femur that was broken into numerous pieces. Mia's injuries were so severe that we took her to Newport Beach Vet in order to treat her for the rest of her injuries and subsequent surgeries; that was the best thing we could have ever done. Treatment: -Dr. Cohen is one of the best veterinarians the world has ever seen, not only does he give your pet the best care but he explains the process to great detail that you feel you were present when the care was given. Also, feel free to ask any questions as he answers all of them. You don't feel rushed when you are talking to him and he is far from being the "cold doctor" you encounter in the medical field, he is very personable and you know he loves what he does. Mia got a really bad infection after the first surgery at the other hospital because the place failed to sterilize appropriately, and Dr. Cohen treated Mia for the infection and other issues that resulted from the accident. There is a possibility that Mia would have lost her leg if the infection was not treated :( -Dr. Fitch is one of the country's top orthopedic surgeons, it is also, thanks to his magical hands that Mia is walking again. He, like doctor Cohen, knows what he is doing and performed two surgeries for Mia. He aligned her pelvis and fixed the femur that was incorrectly treated at the first hospital. After every surgery he called and told us all about them :) Nothing better than a follow up call to ease your mind and heart. -Debra Cohen, well to sum it up, she is an angel. Her healing hands helped with the physical therapy, the road rash, the exams, etc. She is such a loving person that I felt so comfortable leaving Mia with her from the moment I saw her. There is nothing better than knowing that our little family members get love at the "hospital" (it's more like a five star hotel for pets). Mia loves her so much that she goes crazy when she sees her. Debra would send us updates on Mia via text and seeing her messages always lit up our days. Staff: You are welcomed with water, wine or other beverage. The girls at the front desk called us on a weekly basis to tell us how Mia was doing and since we live in Woodland Hills they would accommodate our visiting hours every time. There were instances were we would over welcome our stay and they were closed, but the girls never rushed us even though they needed to go home. Like the rest of the family at Newport Vet, the girls at the front love Mia and gave her lots of affection. The girls in the back, are also very loving and Maria was so nice to my Mia that I will be eternally grateful. Facility: The place is very clean and they have a beautiful salt water fish tank that compliments the black and white tile. Parking has never been an issue even on their busy Saturdays. You can park in the back or there is plenty of space outside on PCH. Now, over two months later, my Mia is back home and happier than ever, but I must say Newport is her second home and we will be eternally grateful. read more

I never write reviews but this is unfortunate. We moved out of state and saw Dr Cohen for our 4 year old dog. I had to get vaccine records over two years ago for a new vet after they overcharged us significantly for a procedure. I called last week as we have upcoming travel and in our move, I couldn't seem to find the records. Deb (the manager) never called me back or sent me records. I called again today and she was extremely rude to me on the phone. Claiming "you have asked for them before I sent them to you" I nicely explained we moved and it would be very helpful if she could please email them to me. She said "I already did" and I said no I have nothing in my whole email history from you so if you could please resend at your convenience I would really appreciate it. She said "ok MAYBE if I can get to it today" and hung up on me. I'm pretty sure it's unethical to withhold medical records. I will try again tomorrow and if I cannot get them I will have to take further action. Super disappointing and I have heard several stories similar to this about his office management. read more

I can't say enough great things about this veterinary office, Dr. Cohen and his staff! I rescued a Jack Russell terrier mix over a year ago who had chronic health issues. Dr. Cohen met with me every visit and explained in great detail my pet's health issues and his course of action. He was always sensitive to my needs! His staff kept in constant contact with me if I needed to drop off my pup so I wouldn't worry. Just recently my precious pup was diagnosed with a life threatening disease. Dr. Cohen and his amazing staff walked me through the dreadful process to euthanize my beloved animal. His nurse and wife Debra, even called me after hours to discuss the diagnosis and all precautions for myself and my family. Once we arrived, sobbing in pain, Dr. Cohen and his incredible staff welcomed us with open arms to say our last goodbye to our baby. I couldn't ask for better service and care. Dr Cohen has been our veterinarian for 15 years through two dogs. Both he and his team are highly professional, compassionate and caring. He is a talented diagnostician and skilled surgeon . He cared for our last lab through many years of cancer when it went undiagnosed initially by two other local vets. Every time our dog had a surgery, Deb Cohen stayed the entire night by his side. We wouldn't consider another veterinarian and are grateful to be clients of their office. read more

My dog was there for a 3rd opinion on her back legs. She's only a year old & overnt just started dragging her back legs on the ground. Based on what Dr. Cohen said I was either going to pay for surgery or if he said there was no saving her- I would have to put her to sleep. There is nothing worse than watching your dog drag herself around!! I was hoping it was tick paralysis but that was ruled out by another vet. Dr. Cohen was busy so they said I could drop her off & he'd find time to see her. Only when I get there I'm told in order for her to stay they need to do a $45 fecal on her 1st. Really? $45 is absolutely nothing compared to what I've already spent & will continue to spend if I can save her but I can't believe you'd stress my dog out over a fecal! She's already afraid of people & I told them of that when I made the appt...So to ask her to have a stick shoved up her butt is ridiculous. & that they couldn't tell me that over the phone! She's seen 3 vets & not one has ever asked for that. Unbelievable way to nickle and dime your new patients. She will now go to a neurologists in hopes that he'll be able to save her. DR. Was inspired by a neighbor referral to see Dr. Cohen but encountered an extremely unprofessional front desk attendant who poorly represents Dr. Cohen and the wonderful referral I had received. Was informed their "3" hour a day schedule sufficed for most and if I couldnt make an appointment I had scheduled in the AM, I should follow suit of many of their clients and hire an assistant to bring my dog in! Was also told appointment changes are not accepted under any conditions and that they operate under a "one strike, your out" philosophy! Although I was enthusiastic to meet Dr. Cohen, under no circumstances would I put my dogs into the hands of a business that is as pretentious, cold and impolite as the women answering phones! First impressions can make or break a business and unfortunately, this golden rule of thumb applied today. (For the record, this is my first Yelp review!). read more

I love and trust Dr Cohen and his staff! I took my beloved first dog and first cat to Dr Cohen's office for 16 years. I truly believe they lived as long as they did, largely because of the veterinary care. Everytime my husband and I have to go on even on short trips, we prefer to board our pets at Dr Cohen's. It's great peice of mind to know that your pets are safe and cared for in a loving way. We now have a new puppy and a young cat and we are continuing the tradition by having them cared for by Dr Cohen. The service and doctor-patient relationship if fantastic! Dr Cohen is so skilled and so thorough in his explanation of his diagnoss and treatment. He will call you at any hour to keep you updated...so conscientious! And just because he's in Newport Beach doesn't mean his prices are unreasonable. He provides a ton of services and the front office ladies are not pushy, but they do tell you what treatment is absolutely recommended.
