I wanted to save my 100th review for something special, like the best Fro-Yo ever....BUT, I didn't want to forget about this one because it happened to pop in my mind...... I used to see Dr. Carmel quite often. Actually, for about 6 years, I saw him once a month, sometimes more. As you can see from my picture, I no longer look like a proActiv "before" picture, and I really did prior to my treatment from my favorite dermatologist. It was not pretty, and for someone who HATES going to the doctor, I honestly can say I didn't dread my appointments. Dr. Carmel is so positive and upbeat. He's quite charming actually. He's super busy because he's probably the best you can get but he always seemed genuinely happy to see me. He cured me for good pretty much and that was a huge help for my self esteem. I wonder if something has happened to Dr. Carmel, or if it has something to do with me having HMO instead of PPO this year. Before, Dr. Carmel always greeted me with great enthusiasm, and often shaked with both his hands. He was great at acne and cosmetic treatments, but he has prescribed me the same topical for my mysterious itch on and off over the years to little avail, but that's alright. Then we switched to HMO for a year but how strange is it as though someone also flipped a switch on Dr. Carmel's attitude. Now I felt that he went through my appointments with the minimum amount of efforts required to maintain the profession, and no attention whatsoever was spared right after the meeting. The last image I had about him was his back on me and me thinking he was cold as he knew I was there and needed medical attention, and he sent his nurse. I don't know what to think now, but I won't go back even after I switch back to PPO... it's too far away anyway. read more

First, let me just say that I am a LONG time customer of this dermatology office...I've been coming here for over a decade! I used to see Dr. McNay way back in the day (hey that rhymes!), then I saw Dr. Jacobs for many years, then most recently Dr. Roth (that was an awful experience), and finally, Dr. Carmel, who was amazing. He was very friendly, he immediately made me feel comfortable, and he listened very patiently as I rambled on and on. I really felt that he took my concerns seriously, instead of brushing them off with that "I'm the doctor, I know best" attitude that some dermatologists have. I will have to wait and see if his prescriptions actually work for me, but I believe that half the battle of finding a good dermatologist is the trust. This is your skin, and no matter how qualified someone may be, you need to be able to trust your doctor. I left Dr. Carmel's office feeling happy, optimistic, and completely satisfied with the whole experience. read more

I googled Dr Carmel's name b/c I wanted to show from friends the great reviews and awards he's received and then I stumbled upon this Yelp! page. I have been a patient of Dr Carmel for over 5 years and will probably continue to go to him. He has helped with my acne and Vitiligo. For a stretch of 4months, I visited his office for 5 days a week to receive treatment, and everytime I saw him, he was very nice and would ask how I was. Although I haven't been there for a few months, he still remember's who I am and our past conversations. If I wanted to become I Doctor, I would model myself after him. I typically do not like going to see doctors, but he makes coming in for a check up a good experience. Hands down, Dr Carmel is the best. read more

My family and I have been going to Dr. Carmel for years. Both my daughters had Molluscum contagiosum in their preschool years. It was really out of hand thanks to my pediatrician who told us to leave it alone. Then I had several episodes of alopecia over the years which he treated successfully. No stars for you bud. We only saw you once and then you shoved us off to your PA Amanda. She was nice but definitely over her head with my son's acne condition! As his face was obviously bleeding, she just kept saying, " it takes time". This went on for 4 months, until I put a stop to the insurance raping! We found a much better center and my God what a difference. Center for Dermatology should be ashamed for what they put people through. Find someone else, for your sake! Went here on three occasions, each occasion arriving at least 15 minutes prior to my appointment. first time, was seen 5 minutes prior to appointment (WOOT!). Second time, 30 minutes after my appointment (reasonable). Third time, 1 hr after my appointment (really) and then another 30 minutes after being let in. PRO TIP: bring water, no water in the waiting area at a doctors office speaks somewhat of the care you get here. Dr. was pleasant enough. read more

I took time out to write this review since I benefit a lot from reading reviews, especially when I am trying to select a doctor. I got a rash on my neck during a camping trip which just did not go away with a few over-the-counter ointments I tried. So I decided to consult a dermatologist and began the search for someone who can help me with a quick recovery - a visible rash on your neck tops the chart of socially repulsive items. Dr Jeffrey Carmel not only gave me medication which made it quickly vanish but also did some test to ensure the reasons and performed what I consider diagnosis of the root cause (although we couldn't determine any). I certainly want my doctor to do that instead of blindly prescribing antibiotics which would suppress the problem. I would definitely recommend him. read more

I have seen Dr. Carmel for laser at least two years. Each time, I will ask some questions, and I was never charged with office visit. However one time I was charged and that appointment was not thing out of ordinary. I asked the office staff to check with the doctor if he made any mistakes and he agreed to not charge office visit, so I was able to walk out that door without paying the copay other than my already paying couple hundred dollars laser lee. Few months later I got billed for that copay, and nobody in the staff know what I was talking about. I did not ask for any note which indicates that I didn't need to pay, so I have nothing to protect myself. I ended up paying that 30 dollars copay. It is not a big deal thing, but it does indicate the doctor's randomness and the staff's capability to manage billing. Other than that, since I always have PPO, I did not have the previous user's HMO experience. I do always feel that this doctor is way forward. He probably is using me as guinea pig to test out very string medication. He did not really fix my problem, so I wouldn't say that he is so great. Just a suggestion to look around and check out more doctors and you will find out who is good, and consistent and put your benefit in the first place. read more

Dr. Carmel has been my dermatologist for the last 5 years through my acne experience. He has basically cured my acne issues, it has been a long journey. I still have a little bit every now and then, but nothing I can't manage. He's been nothing but a delight! As a doctor he is extraordinary and beyond helpful. He takes the time to genuinely listen and answer any questions you have, even when he is in a rush. He's friendly, professional, very knowledgeable about the healthcare field, and quite charming. When he has time, he'll sometimes strike up an interesting conversation. You can feel he is truly genuine and considerate about how you feel. I would recommend him as a dermatologist to any one of my family and friends. read more

Dr. Carmel is just simply the best dermatologist and a fine, caring physician. He is very skilled, an excellent listener and I feel confident that I am in the best, most knowledgeable, competent hands possible. Extra credit for having such a warm, caring personality! He is also very willing to take the time to answer my questions and explain everything thoroughly (diagnosis, treatment, recommendation, follow up, etc.) which I find to be key in choosing a physician. Further, the staff at Center for Dermatology is extremely friendly and helpful. From the front desk (Shana) to his Assistant (Shannon) they all have a great attitude, are incredibly efficient and they all work really hard, as a strong cohesive team. They offer appointment times that fit my schedule and I have always been seen "on time", which is key as all of our time is valuable. I had an appointment with Carmel today and I have never experienced a doctor which such a "Couldnt careless" attitude. I had appointment with him at 2.45 and after waiting for more than an hour he finally met me for not more than 3-4 mins. He was least interested in diagnosing me and any questions I asked he said if its not paining then live with it. I didnt paid him $145 out of my pocket and wasted my 3 hrs (including commute) to listen few biology terms like cyst, sebaceous . What he told me I already knew from Google search and online material. He did not add any value and total waste of time. Doctor should at least address the issue/concern patient has and should not simply ignore. I am really disappointed with him and would suggest people to think twice before setting up appointment with him. read more

First of, I've never been here. and I don't think I'll ever go there. I'm an international student. I've been in California for 4 years now. I've an international insurance plan. When I called to book an appointment, the front desk wasn't friendly, but wasn't unfriendly. Fair enough! I wasn't looking for a friendly staff as much as a good treatment. They told me I'd have to pay the allowable amount for the couple first visits, and once my insurance pays them back. I'd get a refund later either from them or my insurance. Now, I've been to dermatologists and different kind of health providers with my insurance, and never have been treated with such twisted way. It's inconvenient for me as a full-time student, giggling my full-time internship and 14 units load. I do understand that "this is an office policy that has been around for over 30 years", but I think it's about time to update that policy. I don't see why you'd still be paranoid about a patient "leaving the country without paying and leaving you stuck with the canceled insurance policy". But I really needed the treatment, and took the extra step to contact my insurance provider to contact you and your financial department, and confirm to you that I should be cover at 100% with no deductibles. Still didn't make a difference. I'm doing you a favor, taking the time to write you a feedback, when you were not helping me at all. I wanted to be one of those "LONG time customer ", but you were too paranoid. Thanks for the trust! read more
