Every second Monday of the month, at the Westbank branch, you can get free notary services but it is on a first come first serve basis and she's only there for an hour 9am-10am. The notary public is very nice and she says this is her way of giving back to the community. Kudos to her!! I prefer the Napoleon branch because it's much bigger and more spacious with many more study rooms and places to sit. However, both branches have friendly staff. Meeting rooms are available for free with ample notice. So, check them out for monthly activities because lately they've been hosting a plethora of them. They also have card games but Spades isn't one lol.

This review and 5 star rating is my experience participating in the "Who Dun It?" Book Club. As the name implies the "Who Dun It?" Book Club is a murder mystery book club. We meet once a month (virtually) to discuss the selected book. It's hosted by the clever, funny, and calm- natured librarian, Shelby. I joined the book club in May 2021 to accomplish two goals 1) Read more 2) Meet new people. The "Who Dun It?" Book Club accomplishes both and so much more. Murder mystery is a new genre for me however the books selected have been interesting and the meetings attendees are fun, articulate, and well- read women and men with unique opinions. Intellectual, adult conversations for the WIN! I look forward to meeting with this group as we share our critiques of the selected reading and author. New members are always welcome! It's free to join and the books selected are usually available at several NOPL locations, or ebook for FREE! The virtual meetings occur every 3rd Thursday of the month. Hope to see you at the next meeting! http://events.nolalibrary.org/event/5006741

It has a surprisingly decent selection of books and the librarians are friendly. And there's one big "secret" everyone should take advantage of: St. Bernard resident/library card holders automatically qualify for an Orleans Parish library card too! You have to go to a New Orleans branch to get one, but it's well worth it.

Their catalog is straightforward enough, but the book rows are all over the place and sometimes difficult to follow. Not to mention the fact that the majority of the stacks are in low-ceiling, basement like spaces, giving one the sense that they are in the opening ghost scene from "Ghostbusters." Also, for a library building, Howard Tilton is rather noisy. Of course, people will chitchat as they do, but the HVAC units are constantly roaring and the staircases echo like anything. If you get a couch seat on the third floor while the sun is still up, then I'll admit, it makes for a lovely reading space. Also... thank the good lord they put a PJ's coffee inside!
